About
Peskesi restaurant in Heraklion Crete, is an effort to discover the secrets and enjoy the benefits of the Cretan diet. Our cuisine is based on pure and natural products of the Cretan land and our aim is to highlight the traditional Cretan aromas and flavors that have been forgotten. Peskesi is open from morning till late and aims to provide an integrated experience based on the quality, the diversity and the value of the Cretan lifestyle. We brought the traditional "Cretan house" near you in the center of Heraklion, with modern aesthetics and functionality while retaining ancient traditional methods, such as food-gathering and meal preparations.

Peskesi was our first dinner spot for our time in Heraklion. We actually loved the food here so much that we immediately made another reservation so that we could eat there on our last night. It was that good! On our first visit, I had...the Wild Rose Trochaloi cocktail, with Rose wine, lemon, organic pomegranate, and amberoriza. This was so good and honestly, a great treat. To eat, we had the Thria or Thriomageria - ancient recipe for dolmades with grape vine leaves and zucchini flowers stuffed with groats and organic herbs from garden. I’m not exaggerating, these were the best stuffed grape leaves that I have ever had in my life. They were so good and honestly just tasted so different than others that I’ve had. We also had the Grilled “katsohiri” cheese - traditional Cretan cheese grilled table side and Local lamb with traditional yoghurt - slow cooked lamb with yoghurt and kefaotiri cheese, served with pilaf cooked in lamb broth. Service was absolutely amazing and we really felt so welcomed on our first dinner in town. Each meal is accompanied by a complimentary dessert + complimentary raki with rose water as digestive. This was super nice and really set the tone and the bar for the rest of our meal in Heraklion. On our last night in town, we ordered, of course, the same cocktails and stuffed grape leaves. We also added on a tomato shrimp dish with melted local cheese on top. I had the Rooster with “hilopites” - rooster cooked in wine with handmade traditional pasta and grated anthotyro and the meat was very moist and tender. X had the “Syglino” - pork chops smoked in front of you with traditional herbs (thyme and sage). This is served hanging on top of a smoker with thyme and sage. So unique and so delicious!More

Oh my goodness what a heavenly restaurant! We went on a recommendation and I cannot recommend more highly. The foot was off the charts delicious - from their homemade bread, to their starters (the crab!!!!!!) and our mains were outstanding - see bass, pork belly.....oh my goodness. and then the CHEESECAKE ! you have to try. Literally the best cheesecake in the world. It's own another level. And the staff were the warmest, most friendly and incredible staff every. I wish I could go more often!!More

Wonderful restaurant! Very friendly and competent staff! Farm to table is the main motto, and besides the obvious sympathy I have for this sustainable approach, the food is just really delicious. If you read this, go there, you will not regret it!

We had a weekend dinner here greeted by warm and inviting staff at this Cretan farm to table restaurant in Old Town Heraklion. They have a varied menu of dishes and wine list. We had glasses of Cretan wine, appetizers, bread, and a smoked pork...entree with vegetables. Staff treated us to a dessert and the best roki (after dinner drink) we had in Crete. While we enjoyed the food and ambience at Peskesi and were very much looking forward to our dinner there based on multiple recommendations, our experience was dampened by having local girls enter the restaurant to beg at our table (twice) before being sent away by staff and the service was less attentive as our dinner continued when a large party was seated. Perhaps the staffing that night was not up to their normal capacity and is not typical- we just caught it on an off night. If in Heraklion again, we would dine at Peskesi for another try. We're glad we tried it.More

After visiting Crete, Santorini and Athens, I don't believe there is a more beautiful or delicious restaurant in Greece! The restaurant seems to wind its way through a building and alley and is visually stunning. The staff was very knowledgable and attentive. They accommodated our...group of ten even while having other large groups and a restaurant full of smaller tables as well. The ability to make each diner feel special is a real talent. The food was the best we tasted on our trip - the chicken, lamb chops and fish were all favorites at the table. The wine list was extensive and the sommelier's recommendations paired beautifully with our food. The staff was so kind to bring us a special, local dessert and dessert wine with rose petals to try which we loved as well. We may have to return to Heraklion again just to eat at Peskesi one more time!More

Based on a recommendation from a friend, I went in for a late lunch as I was staying nearby. I love the farm to table to farm sustainability philosophy. The staff was very attentive and kind and explained in detail menu items. I started with...an Olive Oil tasting. I was not familiar with the variety on tastes etc but after my waiter explained I tried two extreme types, one sweet the other bitter and paid attention on the taste and flavor of the oils. It was spot on in the description and taste. Both varied and delicious. There are a lot of vegetarian dish options which normally I would go for but decide to try a Roast Pork Cretan dish that is normally served on Sundays. It was so tender, flavorful and delicious. I was pressed for time so did not get a chance to go back and try other dishes but I hope to be back in Heraklion and if so Peskesi will be my first stop as I totally enjoyed the experience and cuisine!More

This restaurant is one of the best in Heraklion but not the only one you should try. There are other restaurants just as good. I was expecting it to be exceptionally good but it was not. Having said that I loved it and enjoyed the...food the staff was super friendly and nice the food was amazing. I just expected it to be out of this world because of all the reviews it had.More

The best restaurant in Heraklion! Truly local food with information on sustainability provided (but not forced upon you!) in a supplemental menu. There is an extensive wine and beverage selection including nonalcoholic herbal refreshers, an olive oil menu with options for food pairing or as...an accompaniment for bread, and a diverse menu of meat and vegetarian dishes. The staff was knowledgeable and fun, but all business when it came to providing service which was very attentive. Each meal came with several complimentary dishes including a beetroot and cheese accompaniment for the bread, a sweet semolina pudding, and after dinner drinks of rose and geranium infused raki. So good we had to return for one more dinner the night before leaving!More

Don't be so anal. Free dessert is just a tradition. Be thankful if you receive it, indifferent otherwise.
