I went to this place for dinner. Enchanting atmosphere, although perhaps a little too dark, there was only a small light bulb to illuminate the table.
Before starting dinner they brought us a typical dish served in a coffee cup.
We waited more than forty minutes to receive the first appetizer.
We also ordered two traditional meat-based dishes, in addition to a bottle of water we spent €44.20, a price slightly higher than the city average, but in line with the offer offered by the place.
Excellent dishes and friendly service.
At the end of dinner we were offered a digestive made from rose flowers.

This is a most recommended restaurant so needs booking and remains crowded. The food is good but not somewhere we would go twice. Unfortunately the service is a bit snooty and they want to charge as much as possible e.g it’s customary that free dessert is provided and this was the worst we have seen. (Left it of course). The gin cocktail was bad and one waiter said it would be replaced and the second said you have to pay and when he was overridden by the first sulked like a child. Net net good food. Service needs attention Location is nothing to talk about but inside ambience is good

No matter how many times I go to this particular shop, every time it is so special from its people, the food and the whole atmosphere of the place! An amazing service in combination with the unique Cretan flavors! Every time we can't decide which dishes to choose! For the last two years we have been visiting Heraklion continuously and the peaches are always the first and last choice. Impeccable service from all the guys in the team, the food all comes on time hot and well prepared, and with first quality ingredients, which you can tell from the first bite. Reading the negative reviews I can't understand what they are based on as every time I visit store (no reservation), I receive great attention from the staff, always with a smile and their warm hospitality, regardless of the size of my party. Really enough with the paid reviews that aim to degrade and diminish the effort of such a group, based on mistakes that are never intentional. Peskesi is its people and it wouldn't be what it is today if it weren't for them. It's worth a visit, and believe me you won't regret it. Quality for quantity and price is impeccable, and one thing is for sure, whoever visits it never leaves hungry or disappointed.

Wonderful, absolutely delicious! Everything we ate there was a real experience. Very helpful staff, asking about any allergies you may have. Everybody can find something tasty in the menu - I am a vegeterian, my husband eats meat, even our picky 3-year-old enjoyed his meal and that alone is the best recommendation ;)
In the photos you can see our dishes: the 3 rolls stuffed with Cretan cheese and fig marmalade were amazing, the second dish was with meat inside and my husband was impressed by the taste and texture.
What makes this place so special (apart from the great service and the atmosphere of course) is the fact that all the dishes are made from the their local farm. Even the lemonades are homemade, we had one with orange and herbs - you must try it!
It is more expensive than other restaurants, but it is worth it:) You pay for the high quality, fresh ingredients, great service, atmosphere, beautiful design and most importantly - an unforgettable experience. We will come back for sure the next time we are in Heraklion:)

Peskesi is considered the chic place of Heraklion. Reading the reviews in which many said there was a lot of smoke and little roast we were in doubt whether or not to visit the restaurant but we decided to give it a chance and we did not regret it. Great start with bread made by them. As an appetizer we took mushrooms, excellent, and bruschetta with beef, which instead left us indifferent, but the real protagonists were the main courses. Particular baked lamb, with a rice of ten, cooked in the Cretan way. Outstanding vegetables (vlìta), made with gravy and, icing on the cake, smoked mini-steaks with fresh sage that are worth the trip. (P.s. is one of the highlights and the portion is enough for two). Finally, an exquisite homemade halva accompanied by the inevitable rose liqueur. Prices certainly higher than the classic taverns but here we are in a restaurant with a very pleasant atmosphere, the very kind staff and excellent quality raw materials, all deriving from neighboring countries. For what we ate the bill (26€ each in four) is from 10. Recommended

Fantastic restaurant! Already reserved and looking forward to the beginning of the week. For the main course unfortunately did not become tasty so the main course was off the bill and light snacks were offered, so I could still eat something and a cup of tea for the stomachache! Really so very sweet, thanks to waiter Nikos!
Beautiful restaurant, great food and incredibly sweet staff

Unfortunately our experience didn’t match other reviewers. This is undoubtedly a pretty place to sit but it’s all a bit precious. Our starter of beans and chickpeas was bland. Of the main courses the lamb was well cooked but accompanying risotto was underdone with too much bite to the rice. The pork was delicious if rather too salty but the dish arrived cold after a lengthy wait. The cheapest wine was pricier than the most expensive main and the bread rolls though large were €2.50 each. Wait staff were very friendly but rather inattentive in clearing plates, asking if we wanted dessert (which we didn’t) and in bringing the bill. Not the experience we were anticipating. We have eaten much better in similar restaurants in Chania and Rethymnia in recent days.

Then it starts with the good welcome, but the service was not good 3 times I asked for 2 bottles of water and after 10 min they brought me water, even my dad had asked for bread and no one brought, I see many Waitresses who run around like turtles without without do not know what they do, I am saying it because I have 3 restaurants and are of the trade, to take the order 20 min I told them 5 min and we disappeared the waitress too she was alone poor but I manager who puts people to sit does not understand anything poor.
I started ordering delicious appetizers and salads, and I said great instead when I saw the main courses that I had ordered an overcooked boiled rice and a very salty lamb and when I pointed out to the waitress she ignored me completely and disappeared , then I had ordered a chicken burger for the children they brought me after 15 min that the lambs came to us adults , I tell them to the Waiter and he also disappears, you also see the dishes left halfway without eating , I was advised by our hotel to go to dinner but I regretted throwing 180 € in the bathroom own, there are other better restaurants around but for sure it is not this, really I was ruined dinner NEVER AGAIN , DISAPPOINTING
But at least a clarification, it's just a restaurant to scam tourists, then in another thing that I noticed the waitress was often at a table next to us you could see that they were people who were fine and she was always there, but I wanted to tell them too that I'm a very simple person I tipped you, indeed I also have 3 restaurants in Florence in the heart of Florence but I will never behave as she did.
And when I went to the hotel, my stomach started hurting.

Chosen for a stop after the excavations of Knossos, booked for 4 adults and 4 girls.
Very nice location and interesting menu representative of Cretan specialties, although the dishes were not immediately understandable and well explained.
Great premises, food tends to, good shame about the service.
We agreed to the non-simultaneous release of the dishes on the assumption that they had to be brought as soon as they were ready. The result: a two-hour wait for an explicitly ordered dish for a 10-month-old girl who at that point did not eat anything.
Given the wait, the other three girls, who had until then behaved appropriately for their age, began to show signs of intolerance and fatigue.
As soon as we paid, the waitress, already quite nervous during the entire duration of the service, annoyedly invited us out to allow the other diners to continue their lunch in serenity.
This did not surprise us having the same waitress pushed away in an annoyed and beaten way a beggar who must have been less than 10 years old.

Finding the right words to describe our dinner at Peskesi is not easy. From the first bite to the last, every dish was a journey through the authentic flavors of Cretan tradition, enhanced by high-quality ingredients and impeccable preparation.
We tried several specialties, and each one left us speechless: the meat was perfectly cooked, juicy, and flavorful, and the traditional dishes were reinvented with elegance and a perfect balance of taste. The presentation was spectacular—each plate looked like a work of art—but what truly amazed us was the flavor: intense, genuine, and unforgettable.
The service was impeccable, with a friendly and attentive staff who were always ready to recommend dishes and share the stories behind them. The restaurant’s atmosphere is warm, welcoming, and meticulously designed, making it the perfect setting for a special evening.
If you’re looking for a truly authentic gastronomic experience, one that goes beyond just dining out and becomes a journey into Cretan flavors and culture, Peskesi is the place to be. We were 100% satisfied and will definitely be coming back!
Highly recommended!

This restaurant was recommended by the hotel as I wanted to try local authentic food. I didn’t book in advance and was told it would be 2 hours for a table, which I didn’t mind as wanted to explore the city too. However when I returned for the booking I was sat outside in their tent area and not the actual restaurant so didn’t get the experience of being sat in a nice restaurant. I got the Greek salad which was a big portion and did taste fresh but wasn’t much different to what I’d had at the hotel restaurant. They do different types of olive oil which are worth a try, the wine was good. I didn’t order a dessert but was given their halwa dessert for free anyway with a shot of ouzo. It seems to be a local custom where you are given a local dessert or shot of ouzo even if you don’t order one. Overall it’s worth a try but I expect the experience is better sat inside and there’s more dishes to explore.

We had lunch at Peskesi's one late afternoon because at 8.30 pm we had to be at the airport. We booked for 6.30pm and at 8pm we were out after having a wonderful gastronomic experience! Apart from furnishings and dishes all well-kept and beautiful, even the menu was fantastic and we wanted to try everything! I'm almost moved by the thought of vegetables, meat, service, what do you remember! I hope to be back soon!

Made reservation for this restaurant because of its numerous raving reviews. Love the look, the food everything. We were told when making reservation over 2 weeks earlier there was only 5pm available. No problem we were happy for the experience. Once we arrived we were greeted by a hostess that was skeptical we had a reservation. After a few minutes she decided we were allowed to dine in the restaurant. We were offered a table in the outside alleyway. No one was sitting in the area. I asked if we could be seated inside or where all the nice photos appear we were offered a table just inside the front door. Not special. Anyway after taking a walk inside after being seated there were numerous fantastic tables empty. It was 5pm! The restaurants in Greece are not busy till after 9pm. After the really pathetic start to our experience we were happy to quickly finish dinner and get out of Peskesi restaurant that didn’t want us there. We were really excited about trying many things but really just lost our interest. I would walk away when the hostess can’t be bothered if you stay or go. We should have spent our money elsewhere. Hostess was sitting on the high bar chairs chatting all during our dinner. Smoking. Pretty pathetic, unprofessional. The food was ok to good. Nothing too special. This dinner was $125 Euro. Probably worth $60. We have dined in restaurants where we have spent $1000. Peskesi should work on there front of service. We would never recommend or return. We would only recommend that friends avoid this place!

Delicious local cuisine from our own Cretan farm. Offer a limited menu of only fresh, home-made local products and you can taste it.
Highly recommended for anyone visiting Heraklion and who wants to try something different than Gyros with fries.
Recommended: make sure you are there when it opens or book in advance because the place is completely full within 10 minutes of the doors opening. During the hour that we ate there, we saw at least 50 couples disappointed with the announcement that unfortunately the restaurant had no more available places.

Our dining experience in Crete was exceptional. The service was outstanding, and the food was divine. Our group consisted of six family members—four vegetarians and two meat eaters. I found the quality of the food comparable to Michelin-star standards.
The staff made us feel completely at home. We leisurely enjoyed our drinks and food, spending over two hours here. I will definitely recommend this restaurant to friends and family visiting Crete.
