A nice place to have your dinner full every night with locals that like to taste its traditional plates and especially this “sfuggato” which is the trademark of the restaurant. Visiting quite often as for sometime it is in walking distance from where I stay. Owner and stuff are very nice and helpful. Food is mainly traditional Cretan dishes very well prepared and with most ingredients (mainly vegetables) grown by the owner. The prices are...better than reasonable, raki is AAA quality and it is always interesting to have a chat with the owner Mr Dimitris on politics. I definitely recommend it!!!More
I meet my Greek friends here for lunch every single time I come to Crete. Dimitri is a great chef and he is proud of the left wing, communist and anti- fascist politicians and actors whose photos hang on the walls of this popular café...restaurant. He has a lot of stories to tell ! All the food is home -made , spitiko. Excellent ! You can eat inside or at a few tables set outside on the sidewalk.More
We had a wonderful lunch in this great little taverna in central Heraklion. Made very welcome by Dimitri the owner. Very friendly and efficient staff. Wonderful traditional Cretan food with local ingredients. Friendly environment with (when we were in) mainly local customers. Dimitri was very...happy to explain the photos of antifascist politicians and musicians around the walls. Additional little glasses of wine and raki. Slightly tricky to find but worth the effort and we'll be back.More
All the dishes we have tried are delicious!!! Prices are very reasonable and the service so friendly, you feel like being home with friends and family!!!

I hesitate to write the review this restaurant deserves, because I'd prefer to always find a table available. But it is my favorite restaurant in Greece for a host of reasons, starting with the food...Not fancy, but genuinely homey and carefully prepared. The staff is...wonderfully gregarious and attentive. The setting is improbable--a funky back street near center of Iraklion with lots of tables inside and tables spilling down the sidewalk outside. Every time I've been here, the place is jammed with people who clearly know each other and love the place. My table is usually the first to leave, and we stick around as late as we can (Americans..). Go here is you want to be part of the real local experience in Iraklion...don'y go if you're looking for some standard menu, or nouvelle cuisine (fine as this is), or homogenized "Greek" taverna.More
Recommended by our host, we had dinner here on our last night in Heraklion. We had been told to go early to get a table, which we did, and I'm glad because it started filling up very quickly during our meal. The four of us...shared a Greek salad, fries, aubergine rolls, saganaki cheese, mizithra cheese, an omelette, a goat and pasta dish (possibly a couple of others too but I can't remember) and wine. It was a very reasonable price, and the surroundings were fantastic, the kind of proper local place that we love.More
