We have been visiting this quaintly located restaurant every summer over the last 7-8 years. It used to serve high quality traditional Cretan food which attracted locals as well as tourists.
A material expansion of the dining areas was undertaken over the last 2-3 years....It has practically managed to triple the seating, albeit with the same kitchen.
The unfortunate consequence of this 'upgrade' is that waiting times and food quality suffer, especially in the high season when the restaurant is full.
After seating 30minutes passed for our order to be taken. The wait for the food was similar. I guess this was to be expected.
One could argue that the nice views and setting of the restaurant sort of compensates for the reduced food quality, as it evolves from a traditional restaurant to a modern business.
One dish in particular, was way off the mark, as we explained to our server that appeared concerned.
All this was fine, until the new "Maitre-D' " arrived a few minutes later with an aggressive attitude to ask why we had comments about the dish, whereupon he proceeded to lecture us.
It so happens that over the last 27-28 years we have travelled several times around the world and sort of know our stuff, at least in the culinary ways of the world…
At any rate, we sincerely hope this type of “inflation” does not destroy this place, it would be sad to see it become another commercially overexploited locale, where quality and service is well behind selling the image. We hope the trend of the last few years is reversed and Saradari recovers in the quality dimension.More
