My office is right down the street from Hacienda, thank goodness. The staff and the cappuchino are the best.. still ... every day.

I love the decor of this neighborhood cafe. It sits on a corner on one of the busiest streets of Heraklion. The views are nothing to write home about if you don't find residential areas fascinating. It's not a tourist spot, so you will experience the authentic local lifestyle. The coffee is exceptional too. Ask for the all-Cretan favorite, espresso freddo.

In a town with 1,000 coffee shops a new enterprise has a huge wall of competition to climb to be accepted. Well, right up the street from my house on Papanastasiou, a new Havienda La Minta opened some months back and its already the most popular shop in the area. Why?
First of all, Elini Bantouraki and her amazing colleagues step up the game of service on an island known for hospitality. Smiles and genuine friendliness come with every amazing cappuccino barista Giannis Pediaditakis or his colleagues Rafael or lovely Eleni create. "Here's a special heart for you!" Look, it's a Christmas tree looking up at you." Or, this one is from us, and a box of delectable chocolate creations go with your daily slug of Joe.
I've been in or had coffee from about a third of the coffee shops in Heraklion I guess, and each one seems to have a specialty. For this upscale experiment in coffee, the specialty seems to be doing everything right. All three locations are as good as any place in Crete. You cannot get a better score. Go here.
