This is a small family owned restaurant which has operated in the Old Harbour of Hania since 2004.We have recently moved to our new premises on the water front on Nea Hora Beach with ample seating along the beautiful harbour there. As you approach the restaurant you can't help but notice our charming decor featuring old doors as the name "PORTES" means doors. The Irish owner/chef offers her customers a blend of trend and tradition with her unique recipes catering for all tastes including local, greek, mediterranean, seafood, vegetarian and vegan options. All ingredients are fresh, seasonal, local and bought daily.Recipes are designed depending on the season and availability therefore be sure to checkout…
Elegant restaurant on the seafront of Nea Chora with tables also on the marina. Attentive and punctual service, professional and kind staff. Choice between typical Cretan dishes and fish dishes. Tasty food and prices higher than average prices.
This was by far the best restaurant we visited in our time in Greece, everything was amazing. We went back twice and the second time had a bottle of red wine which was also lovely. The grilled calamari and spicy meatballs were amazing mains and...the entrees of vine leaves, saganaki were incredible. We also had the mussels and a few other entrees on our visits there - nothing of which I could fault. The man in charge was also so helpful, and even brought a different dessert for me after our meal as I am allergic to nuts. All waiters were very attentive and helpful and could not recommend here more for traditional greek food.More
We stayed in Nea Chora for two weeks and, after trying some of the other restaurants along the strip, we very often ended up going to Portes. The service was excellent and the food was Greek, with a little European twist. A good variety on...the menu. We tried almost everything! Highly recommended...More
Food average, service dreadful!! Several mishaps, worst was bringing our mains when halfway thru our starters! The waiter just seemed useless (sorry he was!!)... would not way recommend this place tho the setting is lovely!
The location for this restaurant is great for watching the sunset. The service is very good and friendly. I was here twice in my vacation in Chania. At my first visit I had the shrimp with feta and the tuna steak. Both very delicious.
2nd...visit was also fantastic with spicy chicken liver and a mushroom risotto.
I will definitely recommend this restaurant.More
Ate once at Portes when they were in the town centre but this was first visit to the “new” location.
Great spot watching the sun go down over the sea while eating absolutely top-quality meal. Will definitely go again.
The place is in avery touristic area, just one of the many restaurant in a row, and they all lokk like touristic places. BUT this one looke nicer than average thanks to the tables down in the port, just front the small boats. That part...is very quite, the real flux of tourists being up. Moreover the food was top quality! we were impressed and we eat here after already 10 days in Crete. The octopus grilled was abundant, well cooked and delicious. The eggplants very very good, betetr than average. And the Red Wine Beef was very, very, very good. All in all 40 Euro for 2 people and we were super-full. For sure not just one of the best restaurant in Chania but even much cheaper than average!More
Nice atmosphere with a table right in the little harbour of Nea Chora beach. Normal not large portion sizes with good vegan options and excellent service - the waiter even made a quick change to the complimentary dessert so we could eat it and recommended...another vegan restaurant for us.I recommend the aubergine with green tahini and the fennel pie. We enjoyed our dinner there.More
A nice table in a lovely location by the boat harbour. We had good service from the young lady who had many steps to climb/descend to deliver a very nice traditional meal. The highlight for us was a large platter of wonderful grilled vegetables
