You can sit and relax after a long day of shopping or coming back from a visit to Acropolis in one of the busiest and most popular streets of Athens. They start you with free shots of ouzo and then we ordered the Tzitzikas and Fava salads which were both amazing. The retsina was cold and refreshing, and the zucchini and cheese appetizers were delicious. We tried the kebab, kritharoto and meat with pureed eggplant and potatoes and they were all gourmet quality at affordable prices. The food was so good we kept eating past being stuffed and cleaned all our plates. They also treated us to an orange dessert with ice cream which we demolished too!

Multiple locals recommended this restaurant on our first trip to Athens and we were not disappointed. The service was excellent, so I do not understand some of the reviews. It must have been a bad night. Our service could not have been more attentive. I had the Tzitzikas salad which was very fresh and while it said it was for two, four of us ate it and it was plenty. I also had the 700 gram pork steak, and it was the finest I have ever had, and the seasoning was perfect. While I couldn’t eat it all, it was worth experiencing for only 15 euros. Only one block off Syntagma Square, it is a must stop. Call ahead for a reservation.

I ordered 3 dishes; fried cheese with honey and bacon, mini pies, and meatballs. Everything was very good, ordering 3 dishes was a little too much food for just me. I originally sat outside but it got so hot I asked to move inside, they helped me move and were very nice about it. Some may find the prices a little high but I thought the price was fair considering the quality and how much food I got.

As a recommended restaurant in our Rick Steves guide book, we decided to dine at Tzitzikas kai Mermigas upon our arrival in Athens. We opted to sit outside as I love to people watch, but we were slightly disappointed to find our view of the street was mostly obstructed by the plastic guard they have surrounding the patio. Service was a bit on the slower side, but we chalked that up to the culture. The wine was tasty, but the food really didn’t “wow” us – It did the job at a decent price though. With so many other options in the area, I doubt we would return if visiting Athens again.

It is an unusual thing for me to write a bad review, but in this case I have to do it. Simply do not understand the positive rating they have. The food was lower than average, but the worst part was an irritable waiter and especially that the main course came while we were just in the start of the appetizer. Possible one of the worst thing a restaurant could do. We got the impression that we were only there to get some food as soon as possible so they could get new customers in. Would never recommend this place.

My husband and I came here on our first night in Athens upon review from our AirBnB host - we were so glad we did! The stuffed tomatoes were absolutely delicious, and our entrees (Rooster Bardouniotikos + Seafood Kritharoto) were really good too. The location was great - super busy and lively, with great outdoor seating, and the owner stopped by at one point to give us free dessert and tsipouro. The wine was great, too. 10/10 would recommend.

I tried this restaurant based on other reviews but was disappointed. The service initially seemed rushed but once I was served my main course the staff seemed to disappear. I ordered the lamb special but was advised they were out. I opted for the pork chops. While the carrots and potatoes were delicious the meat was over cooked and dry. This may have been the most disappointing meal I had during my 17 days in Greece.

I eat at the restaurant every time I visit the centre of Athens. The cuisine is Greek authentic, with small gourmet twists due to the high quality local products used. The last time I tried fava, oriental kabab, meatballs and goat with rosemary and all plates were excellent. I definitely recommend the restaurant for dinner or lunch with friends.

This simple restaurant was very special, the excellent food was authentic and beautifully served. We had the daily specials, which were good value and very tasty. Staff were lovely, and very friendly. It was good to see local diners as well as tourists.

Were sent to this place by a local guide. The food was very tasty especially the fish, and the appetizers. They had a mistake in the kitchen which caused us to wait extra time. The owner offered us desert free of charge

Loved the atmosphere, the food and service. Definitely look forward to returning on my next trip. Ordered traditional Ouzo which was presented in a small bottle (2 servings) generous bucket of ice.. traditional wild greens, potatoes and the calamari dish Everything was perfect. Potatoes serving was too large for one person but very nicely cooked. Dessert was AMAZING and worth the calories.

This restaurant is obviously very popular. We had an enjoyable meal with friendly and helpful service although we found the experience to be halfway between a leisurely dinner and fast food service. The outside terrace was full but we sat inside, from choice, although we found the lighting quite bright for the evening. The food was very good, especially the lamb. Portions were quite substantial and the wine very reasonably priced.

Wonderful Greek food with an outdoor terrace. Terrific service! Food is freshly prepared, delicious, and truly authentic. The night we dined there featured a special menu in addition to the regular menu, inspired by the cuisine of Crete. Although the regular menu would’ve been enough, these additional dishes just added to the experience. We loved it so much we came back 2 additional times during our trip.

This is gonna be a strange review because this was one of the best AND worst Greek meal experience of our trip. It was recommended to us by our Greek driver. We came here the very first night (right after we got off the plane) and also the very last night before we left Greece. And the reason we came back again was because the first time was SO GOOD (& it was walking distance from our hotel). I mean everything we ordered the first time was amazing! From the Greek salad to the pot roast Goat to the Kebab. The wine was also very good. Our first ever Greek wine! So, it's so disappointing that the second time was such a fail. How could it have gone so horribly wrong in just 1 week?! The wine tasted old (bottle must have been opened a while). The Chicken was dry. The Orzo mushroom dish was so salty it tasted like a mouthful of sea water each bite. I really wanted to give a good review for this place, but ..... IDK what happened. Seriously, WTH happened in the space of just 1 week? Did you lose the chef?

Tzitzikas kai Mermigas is an Athenian institution, just off Syntagma Square. The restaurant is a favorite recommendation for the luxury hotels along Syntagma and caters to both tourists and locals. Its location and tourist clientele, however, has not lowered the quality of its food or the standards of its cooking. Tzitzikas kai Mermigas offers most of the classic Greek favorites with its own unique flair and careful preparation. Definitely a good place to stop if you're in the neighborhood and looking for a delicious lunch or causal dinner.

Syntagma
Perhaps the best place to get your bearings is Syntagma Square, crowned by the imposing Parliament building on its upper side and surrounded by other large structures, such as the exclusive Hotel Grande Bretagne. The grand avenues that lead towards Omonia are also full of massive Neoclassical edifices like the Numismatic Museum and those around smaller Platia Kolokotroni. Here you will find lots of travel agents, bookshops and fashion shops, especially on Ermou Street. Just south of Syntagma Square, you can take a breather in the lush National Gardens, which extend into the grounds of the Zappeio palace and beyond to the ancient Temple of Olympian Zeus.
