This is a well-hidden secret of Plaka. The drinks and snacks prepared by the staff are indeed homemade. Kudos to the owners who have great taste and will to offer the maximum to the visitors.

I found this awesome coffee shop/ bar around the corner from the Electra hotel. The coffee is great and the place is very comfortable. I was also lucky enough to have an excellent conversation with the owner. I was in Athens for one night and visited Kimolia twice.

Stopped in here for a light lunch while I explored the Plaka district. This cafe is tucked away in a funky little alley, and has great decor and ambience. The food was also tasty--I had a toasted sandwich with spinach, tomato, Parmesan, and egg, which perfectly hit the spot. Recommended for a nice midday fuel-up!

Wonderful staff, wonderful place. We got to use a part of the cafe for hours on end without being kicked out. I would have bought more than a coffee but it was too pricy for my cheap butt. Honestly it was so cozy and I would go back to Bogard more space for just a coffee

This place is like "The" niche hipster cafe of Athens. Centrally located, you can read about Nietzsche or whatever it is that gets you off right before heading down to the Acropolis and getting your Arctic Monkeys loving butt cultured. The people here are super chill, and will help you practice your Greek, and also don't judge you for bogarting... More

Stumbled upon this excellent cafe in the heart of the city. We thought we sit outside for a quiet beer, it was just too hot and thankfully, we were driven inside to experience Kimolia. Families were seating cheek by jowl with very studious looking students working on their laptops and Bohemian looking types were frantically downing coffee, Greek of course.... More

This cafe is an adorable and interesting spot off to the side of the ruckus of Plaka. They have coffees and sweets and simple sandwiches along with friendly wait staff and a nice atmosphere. Loved it for a quick mid-day stop.

Great little cafe. Perfect for a mini break while strolling downtown. Very polite owners and great service. It's wonderfully situated and the decoration makes your mind time-travel.

Kimolia is a cozy, colourful and artistic spot in the centre of Athens. Open from December 2011, it hosts various performances and exhibitions all year long. Jazz & Blues tunes with the occasional rock hits, cheap drinks and special cocktails along with a small variety of cold dishes and salads, this place is a must for all-day long! Don't miss the chance to check out the cute room in the back along with all the paintings that are crafted by the owners, Mrs Catherine Vayena and Renata Proestopoulou!

Staying in Plaka

Neighborhood Profile
Due to its proximity to the Acropolis, Plaka remains the area where the majority of foreign visitors stay and play. Its attractive features include small squares, some notable museums and the beautiful Mitropolis cathedral, as well as a host of places to stay, eat and drink. Its pedestrian zones make it a pleasant place to escape from the city’s notorious traffic. Adrianou and Kidathineon Streets contain a number of souvenir shops, offering classier items than you will find in the Flea Market. The most rewarding section to explore is the upper reaches towards the Acropolis itself, where many old stone houses with tiled roofs have survived. Up here you can find leafier corners and the odd quaint taverna with unobstructed views of the ancient rock.
