My husband and I really fancied a good pasta dish so we were really happy that we discovered Trattoria Plaka last night. As vegans, it was great to have a few options on the menu and the whole experience didn't disappoint.
We had the grilled mushrooms to start with a balsamic glaze which was superb and packed full of flavour. For main, we both had the spaghetti arrabiata which was absolutely exceptional. Served piping hot with fresh homemade sauce and delicious finely chopped chargrilled peppers and onions running through it. We visited Rome in October and I would say that this pasta dish was better than most that we sampled there. Simply delicious. We will be back.

We were lucky enough to live at a hotel right next to this amazing restaurant that became our daily first choice to dine. Every single item we ordered was delicious, the waiters were kind, efficient, and clearly proud of their workplace. We tried most of their Greek specialties, and most of them were as good as I have had anywhere, as good as homemade. Pricewise the restaurant is about the same as any other touristy restaurant, but the quality was off the charts. Tip: They have a very good winecard with Greek wine, and no, you don't have to drink retsina.

Busy restaurant at lunch time. We asked for tap water but the waiter ignored me and said that he would bring a bottle of water. As this was not free tap water I said I didn’t want it so he became a bit shirty. However the kebabs we ordered were very tasty and came with chips (but pitta bread was extra!). The portions were large so overall a good place for lunch with surly unfriendly waiters.

I really don’t enjoy writing bad reviews. It gives me no pleasure. But this is just not a good restaurant and people should know.
The bread was terrible. Dry white bread. It was only 1 euro, yet I felt ripped off.
The Moussaka was bland. Extraordinarily so. My wife ordered the vegetarian moussaka and her’s was cold. They explained it baked in the oven for 30 minutes, which was probably true when it was made, but was no longer the case. In any event it arrived piping hot from the microwave 3 minutes later.
They have a limited selection of drinks on the menu. Things like Sex on the Beach, Long Island Ice Tea, etc. After they said they only made the drinks on the menu, my wife wanted a 7&7 so she ordered a whisky and sprite, She got some sort of peaty Scotch and Sprite. It was not good.
The staff was attentive for the most part, but seemed to be upset at having to wait on tables. Almost to the point of surliness.
I can’t recommend eating here given the amount of other restaurants in the area.

we came here because they have gluten-free pasta and husband was pleased with his spaghetti and marinara sauce. I had a pizza (not gluten free) which was meh but fine if you are not picky. decent spot for casual dinner in heart of tourist area. it was ok but forgettable.

Ate there Sep 10, 2022 for dinner; ordered the clay pot cooked lamb and it was lousy, nowhere near tender, long slow cooked or drop off the fork. Very disappointing. Presentation en papillote was ok but hinted at better cooking than the reality, a shame as the seasoning was nice.
Staff were inattentive, not clearing tables or offering dessert, neither did they ask how the food was. Would not recommend. Was my final meal in Athens and the worst of the trip sadly

This restaurant is not bad at all, it has 100% Greek cuisine. The service was very friendly and especially fast. The food was great overall. The baked feta cheese was good, plus the pita bread. I really liked the pastitsio, with a creamy layer and with pasta and meat with good taste in general, as I remembered it. The lamb was also good and above all tender with many spices, and the chicken a la mykonos had a delicious sauce, of yogurt and lemon. But what I liked most was Greek yogurt, little or nothing to do with what outside Greece they call Greek yogurt. Thick but not in excess, and with good taste, with honey on top, with a very generous portion for 3 people. It is a highly recommended place to taste Greek food, especially yogurt.

This lovely indoor/outdoor establishment made for a terrific location for our last dinner in Greece. We were met rounding this bustling neighborhood by a charming set of welcoming young men who enthusiastically assured us that their restaurant would not disappoint. And they were all correct.
We were seated garden-side and were quickly tended to. The staff were especially animated, conversational and kind. Within minutes, warm freshly made garlic bread (a rare find in Greece to our observations) and a chilled bottle of wine, and water for all graced our table. A notable treasured point for me was that our waters were filled continuously throughout the meal— and even more precious given the amount of walking we did in very warm temperatures! My son chose the chicken Gyro which was spectacular— tender, will seasoned warm chicken over freshly baked pita with appropriate toppings. Delish. I had the spaghetti carbonara which one of the best I have ever tasted, sincerely. Perfectly proportioned prosciutto and cream over al dente house made spaghetti. Yum.
The house gifted us with a shot of aperitif each to finish— a cherished tradition that ended a perfect meal, well, perfectly. Highly recommend

Disappointing food in a very touristic area. By far it was the worst place we went to in Athens. It wasn't "bad", it was just mediocre. We went there recommended by the local guide and it was a mistake. If you can, try not to eat in the Plaka area unless you want to eat a so-called traditional Greek food, overpriced and mediocre.

Very authentic greek cuisine. We have ordered mussaka, grilled octopus, greek salad and french fries, all food was very delicious and service was very nice, friendly staff. We order also homemade lemonade, ouzo and mastika (herbal liqueur).

Reasonable in taste and cost and service was good.
We enjoyed our meal and it was nice to sit out in the small square and watch the world go by. Though we enjoyed our meal, we did feel that it was slightly more expensive than other places that offered better food.

The service was correct although serving two draft beers using glasses already half filled.... Frozen food is not worth the ones I buy at the supermarket. Only positive, quick service. 52 years of catering without cooking is not bad.

Trattoria was our first lunch stop in Athens and we couldn't have chosen better. We had grilled mushrooms and grilled sausage as a starter. The food was fresh and delicious. As a main we had the mixed grill for 2 and it was so good I didn't get a picture of it. It included kebab, sausages, pork, chicken, lamb and came with homemade chips, tomato and tzatziki.
Side note - it was our first time trying tzatziki and it was absolutely amazing.
The food was well priced as well and the restaurant is located in the privileged neighbourhood of Plaka.

Come here for the great location in the Plaka and very friendly service. The food itself is just OK. The Greek salad lacked any taste of dressing and the tomatoes had little taste to them. The gyros meat was a little dry but otherwise the seasoning was OK. Way too many French fries on the plate. The price was OK - 30 Euro for salad, meat, water and juice.

The Trattoria is set in a lovely square with many other restaurants. The menu looked good and reasonable. We decided on two of the set menus which were very reasonably priced for 3 courses (€15 and €18). The Greek salads to start were delicious. Next I had moussaka; what a joke - 1 very thin layer of minced lamb, some potatoes, no aubergines and lots of bechamel sauce. I asked for butter to go with the bread; some spread, clearly not butter, appeared which tasted awful. My husband had lamb skewers, the lamb was tough. The final course of Greek yoghurt and honey was spot on. No-one asked us how our meal was and staff were miserable. There are much nicer restaurants in Athens.

Plaka
Due to its proximity to the Acropolis, Plaka remains the area where the majority of foreign visitors stay and play. Its attractive features include small squares, some notable museums and the beautiful Mitropolis cathedral, as well as a host of places to stay, eat and drink. Its pedestrian zones make it a pleasant place to escape from the city’s notorious traffic. Adrianou and Kidathineon Streets contain a number of souvenir shops, offering classier items than you will find in the Flea Market. The most rewarding section to explore is the upper reaches towards the Acropolis itself, where many old stone houses with tiled roofs have survived. Up here you can find leafier corners and the odd quaint taverna with unobstructed views of the ancient rock.
