I am in Athens for a brief stopover before heading off to the Peloponnese and so have spent the day sightseeing. I found Yiasemi when I was researching places to eat in Plaka before I left the UK and I was not disappointed. On arrival I was given a very friendly welcome and offered a few options of where to sit. I chose a cosy corner in the courtyard that was festooned with potted plants, all very green and lush and importantly away from the bustle of the narrow stepped street at the front but still outside, albeit sheltered from the midday sun, perfect. One of the reasons for me choosing Yiasemi is the menu choice for vegetarians. I don't normally have much of a problem in Greece anyway but some of the restaurants, especially in tourist hotspots like Plaka can be rather meat heavy. I decided to go for the fixed price menu which was basically any salad from the menu along with any of the pies or tarts along with a dessert and a wine, beer or ouzo. I chose a Greek salad along with a mushroom and pine nut tart, along with a beer and orange cake to follow. I was also given a complimentary glass of water. The salad wasn't your usual basic of cucumber, tomato, pepper and onion with a few olives and three squares of feta. Oh no, this salad had massive wedges of tomato, lots of cucumber, red and green peppers, a chilli pepper and capers as well as olives. And a massive chunk of feta on top. The tart was delicious and clearly home made, not too much pastry. The cake was very light and flavoursome. Washed down with my beer I spent a very enjoyable time eating a leisurely lunch, not feeling rushed at all which gave me ample time to rest as I had been doing a lot of walking all morning. I wish I was in Athens longer as I would love to go back. I intend to return to Athens and will definitely revisit Yiasemi. Highly recommended

I came here once for lunch and had a yummy cocktail and Greek salad. The second time I came I had raki that was served hot with honey, like an alcoholic tea. I can't remember what the name of it was now, but it was great. Both visits I sat outside on the stairs and loved the vibe.

We found this by accident loved location and sat outside for a lovely quiche. Went back and had breakfast (twice) ten euros each . Buffet endless tea/ coffee and juices. The lemon drink was lovely. Hot homemade breads ,quiche, omelette pies tarts yogurt fruit all fresh home made . The food was so delicious we definitely ate more then we would normally but it set us up for sightseeing. The cafe outside is lovely on the steps but inside is wow.
The room for breakfast has couches and loads of features and I thought it was really romantic. There is a lovely lady playing the piano. Out of all the places we ate this was our favourite

It was 16.30 when we sat down in this Cafe that we already know. First time in our lives we had a so bad experience. Despite the fact that the coffee shop wasn't full the waitress came after 15 to 20 minutes to bring us the menu, then another 20 minutes for the other waitress to take the order, by the way she did know what was left from the fresh pitas and sweet. We ordered a soup, a pita and a desert. They bring the soup after 40 minutes, believe it or not a soup that is already cooked as all there plates.
We did not wait more too upset to enjoy anything. We had our soup, paid it and left.
The service was really really bad, wasting time...
Hope that this is not usual, for sur, we will not go back there...

We loved this little restaurant. Finding vegan food in Athens isn't particularly easy, and although this restaurant is not vegetarian, it does have a large number of vegetarian choices and enough vegan ones to be able to go there a couple of times and eat from a selection of different plates each time (and clearly marked on the menu). The setting is really picturesque, it's on a narrow street made of steps up the hillside, which is pretty much all filled with small restaurants with chairs and tables out on the steps, and there is colour, food, music and twinkling fairy lights all the way up. We were there in February and it was a bit chilly for sitting out in the evening, but it's really pretty inside the restaurant too, with a lovely open fire to warm yourself by. The food there is small plates that are very cheap, so you can order a number to share. It's tasty, the staff are friendly, all the ingredients for a perfect meal out.

The service is terrible. We waited for more than a hour for our dishes to come even though the dishes were already cooked because we saw them when we walked in. Even though the restaurant was not full they still took a lot of time to bring the dishes.
Terrible, terrible, terrible. They brought the salad and the appetizer and didn’t bring individual plates.

Very cute place with an amazing atmosphere. The rooftop is delightful. A selection of about tarts, salads, desserts. Cappuccino wasn't astounding (perhaps not the type of milk I'm used to, couldn't really tell), but the food was tasty and the portions filling. The waiters were not very talkative, but did their job. Pleasant overall.

Breakfast was lovely. We had fresh bread, butter, jam, cake & warm boiled eggs. All homemade. Filter coffee was smooth and piping hot. All round good breakfast. Service was attentive.

Only gave a 4 star because menu was very limited. That said, our waiter was very attentive and made suggestions which we enjoyed. Dolma were the best we have had this trip. Tzatziki was also very good. Waiter recommended an olive type casserole but can remember its name. Finished with Orange Pie agin so far best we have had this trip.

This was recommended by our tour guide as one of her favourite places. It was a busy Sunday lunchtime, but they found a spot for us sharing a long table on the gorgeous roof terrace. We were warned, with an apology, that there would be a 20 minute delay for ordering and service. No problem once one knows. We had an olive & feta cheese pie and a cheese pie with zucchini. Both were very good with crispy filo pastry. We shared a generous beetroot salad that was excellent. The house white wine was perfectly acceptable too. The prices are very good value for simple tasty home cooked style food. Although very busy, the staff were friendly and polite with quite prompt service in the end.

This feels like a little secret place. Walk indoors and the waiter will give you a selection of areas to eat: outside on the street, inside in various cosy rooms or, best of all, up on the roof, surrounded with plants and fairy lights and rustic furniture. We came for the cakes. The servings are huge so you could easily have one between two. I particularly recommend the orange pie - a delicious cake soaked in something orangey and delicious.

We enjoyed so much our diner at Yiasemi, it was so good we went two nights in a row and enjoyed the rooftop. The only thing is that the service was long… not because of the waiters (poor them, they were running all the time, going up and down the stairs to reach the bar and the kitchen… they had network problems to take orders and could have been definitely 1 or two waiters more to have better work condition!).
I hope the owner will get my message 🤞🏻!
Cheers guys and thanks again for the great food!

This spot is wonderful! It feels like a much more authentic “Athens” restaurant than many in the city center. The walk there from our hotel was easy and showed us a new side of the city. The food, ambiance, and service were all great. We ordered a Greek salad (superb), roasted chickpeas and a pork sausage dish. Highly recommend!

After the visit of the Acropolis museum we needed a rest and we found in at Yiasemi.
We spent plenty of time there watching people passing by while we were enjoying different plates which were all great and recommended by Margerita, a really sympathic girl.
In case we are returning to Athens again, we will also reserve time for this nice café.

it's a place of unique atmosphere and overall ambience for sure, standing in one of the most idyllic streets under the Acropolis of Athens. The food is very good and very reasonable priced while the proportions are adequate and allow you to be able to try more and different dishes. The only 2 things that were annoying but can easily change if management of course will pay attention is the lack of staff which eventually leads to unattentive and slow service and the cleaning of the toilets... i mean guys come on !

Plaka
Due to its proximity to the Acropolis, Plaka remains the area where the majority of foreign visitors stay and play. Its attractive features include small squares, some notable museums and the beautiful Mitropolis cathedral, as well as a host of places to stay, eat and drink. Its pedestrian zones make it a pleasant place to escape from the city’s notorious traffic. Adrianou and Kidathineon Streets contain a number of souvenir shops, offering classier items than you will find in the Flea Market. The most rewarding section to explore is the upper reaches towards the Acropolis itself, where many old stone houses with tiled roofs have survived. Up here you can find leafier corners and the odd quaint taverna with unobstructed views of the ancient rock.
