Walking through the Monastiraki flea market we came across this cafe. Decided to go in as it looked very interesting with beautiful interior decor. Not disappointed at all. The food is sensational. The staff are super friendly and helpful. The atmosphere very conducive to relax and enjoy. Our family of 3 had a very enjoyable lunch here, even our fussy... More

I was recommended this place from my Athenian friend and honestly, the food and wine did not disappoint. The staff were lovely and the owner kept bringing us free raki and ouzo at the end of our meal which we had to refuse after a few otherwise he would've had to help us leave in a wheelbarrow! I would recommend... More

I chose this restaurant because of its great reviews on TripAdvisor. It is located in the middle of shady, dirty backyard, but the exterior and interior is very nicely done. There was some live music downstairs. We chose to go upstairs and we were seated in the most dark part of the floor. The waiter agreed to sit us elsewhere.... More

Excellent food, served promptly by qualified staff. Original geek plates of good quality produce. Ground floor with nice, atmospheric indoor hall and terrace facing Acropolis of Athens, a spectacular view. Expensive, especially if you consider the very small portions, looking like degustation plates, but charged as 2 star Michelin restaurant.

Scrumptious food, attentive staff and wonderful view from first floor dining area. We felt well-served and very well fed. Can recommend this restaurant heartily for group bookings. Good value for money too.

This little restaurant, hidden amongst the hectic market streets, is really great! Delicious food( especially the Moussaka), great service and pleasant interiors. Stunning view and great value!

The view and the decor is fine, but the waiters were really irritating and pretentious. Like it was supposed to be an honour to be seated in a half empty restaurant, receiving plates of ice cold and tasteless mezedes straight out of the fridge ...tasted even a bit like refridgerator, actually. We know Athens well and also many other restaurants... More

A really great atmosphere greeted me here on a Sunday afternoon which is as I excepted as I've visited here before. It was indoors only as it was freezing outside and a warm welcome was received. Food and red wine went down a treat whilst I people watched at a window table on a very busy back street. Entertainment was... More

Staying in Monastiraki

Neighborhood Profile
Monastiraki
Monastiraki is a souvenir-hunting enclave with a difference. Apart from the dramatic backdrop of the Acropolis, its network of alleys and pedestrianized streets surround the remains of both the Greek and Roman agoras, adding the quaint concept that this is where the ancients also came to shop. Named after the tiny monastery church at its center, Monastiraki Square is a lively spot by day or night, with street peddlers vying for your attention to sell you nuts and sweets. Down beside the metro station, the official Flea Market is an unbroken row of souvenir shops until you come to antique-oriented Platia Avissinias, while Pandrossou Street on the other side of the square offers more tourist shopping. The pedestrianized street beside the Greek Agora is lined with cafés offering fine views.
