We just happened upon this restaurant during a recent stay in Athens. It was located near our hotel and we were browsing around at lunch time. Their friendly signage as well as the Trip Adviser banner made it an easy choice for a lunch stop. We had the house wine and we each tried a traditional dish that was accompanied... More

Went for a quick dinner and wished had gone some place else. Food no good :( close to Acropolis, thought it was okay because of the publicity. Mom had pizza and we had Greek food. Very, very low quality. Unfortunately our worst meal in Greece.

This was close to my hotel and I was really looking forward to a gyro. It was wonderful! Then I had these greek donuts with honey, loukoumades. Those were the best. I am VERY glad I stopped here for my gyro. Everything was wonderful.

Once again I am back in Athens after a year and Smile still offers a good choice of food ranging from Gyros, Souvlaki, Pasta and Pizza. Here you get true Greek hospitality. The atmostphere is lovely and so is the wine and beer. Connie, Zoe and all her family do a great job of running the place and make you... More

After visiting the sights of Athens, we always make for Smile to enjoy a delicious gyro pitta and shandy (Yes they are well-acquainted with our traditional English afternoon refresher of half beer and half Sprite). Handily placed for the Acropolis Museum, Acropolis, Hadrian's Arch and Temple of Zeus. In 2016 we are still amazed at the welcome and the service/food... More

Visited Smile Cafe twice while in Athens. Partly due the heavy promotions they've laid out in the neighborhood on flyers regarding the 3 island tour at a discounted price. The place is run by a friendly lady. Their Sanakopita was very nice and filling. Gyro was good as is elsewhere. The outside sitting area seemed much nicer to us. Worth... More

Staying in Thissio / Makriyanni

Neighborhood Profile
Thissio / Makriyanni
Named after the well-preserved Thission (ancient temple of Hephaestus), Thissio is blessed with a small wooded park and some less frenetic streets that offer numerous quieter places to stay and eat. Largely pedestrianized Apostolou Pavlou Street runs between the Acropolis and forested Filopappou Hill, well worth climbing for more great panoramas, until it merges with Dionysiou Areopagitou Street. This leads to the up-and-coming area of Makriyanni, whose centerpiece is the magnificent new Acropolis Museum. Opposite the museum is the entrance to the southern slopes of the Acropolis, while the eponymous metro station nearby is at the top of Makriyanni Street, another strip of touristic cafés and restaurants.
