About
Welcome to the oldest restaurant in Athens, the legendary "Vassilenas" restaurant, where the likes of Winston Churchill, Sophia Loren and many others have dined. After 96 years in our original location near the Pireaus port, in 2016 we moved to central Athens, close to the Hilton Hotel. Our captivating new "home", designed by acclaimed Greek architects Maria Kokkinou and Andreas Kourkoulas is ready to welcome you serving creative Greek cuisine with quality ingredients and using modern culinary techniques in a unique environment. Weather permitting, our pop-up Vassilenas Parkside welcomes you in the lovely park of Madrid Square, just across the street.

AVOID! CALLOUS / ANTAGONISTIC ATTITUDES / POOR SERVICE! Not mindful of unsafe, unhealthy direct sunlight! Not representative of Greece! For our last night in Greece, we chose this restaurant for a special, memorable meal. We arrived before our 7:30 PM reservation and there were essentially...no diners. We were offered only tables in direct sunlight on a hot Athens day. The tables offered meant had our eyes in the direct sunlight, besides being uncomfortably hot with a burning sun. When requested a table in the shade, we were told they were reserved, although the restaurant was empty. They antagonistically said they were accommodating us ….and we should be satisfied with what was offered…. Why they could not have seated us in a table in the shade and as the sun set, put later diners at another table escapes me. We felt unwelcome and decided to leave. We found a wonderful, welcoming restaurant a few blocks away!More

For over 100 years, this establishment has been in business. However, “business” is not the operative word. No, the word that best describes this fine dining restaurant is “passion.” The ingredients are as fine as one can get; the ambiance can shame many so-called “trendy”...eateries in Manhattan or in Paris and the food is simply sublime. The chef here is an artist with flavors, pairings and presentation. Moreover, the service is impeccable. Truly, if you’re seeking Athens’ best restaurant, this should be at the very top of the list. Bravo!More

We went in September last year and we were exceptionally pleased with the food, all at a very reasonable price for what we were eating. The wine pairings were great too. Excellent and friendly services. Would hiighly recommend.

We went there in the middle of the Covid-19 epidemic to celebrate ou son's birthday, and all worries were forgetten given the overall ambience, the genuinely friendly service, and, above all, the most delicious and original dishes in all categories (starters, main dishes, desserts).

We normally go a la carte but this time we got a tasting menu, which meant we tried a lot of the more imaginative courses and we paired it with the wine. we had the traditional taramosalata and the updated spanakopita as well as some...reinveted cevinche , kalamari with fava and the most beautiful plate of fish. as this was during the covid period it was gret to see all the hygiene rules followed and the garden was amazing - i want to be sitting there always! finally value for money was great for the quality, service and how special we felt. aslo great to see that greek food can be elevated as muchMore

Eating here is a real pleasure. I have been in Athens for three weeks and there is no restaurant that I would recommend more than this. The food is as beautiful to see as good to eat and the service is extremely polite but at...the same time comfortable. They have a wide selection of wines and a good taste for pairings. Again, you should go there!More

Wonderful food, the tuna tartar was amazing and all the food tasted was delicious. The best kitchen for sea food in Athens! P.S. the apple pie and the baklava as a dessert is a must
