The only place in athens I know that is quiet and refined enough to hold high level informal meetings. Excellent service. I recommend the after tea with champagne at 41 euros per person which has scones with English style clotted cream. In the evening they make the best cocktails, while you watch a guy play the piano. Menu can be... More

We had lunch at the lobby restaurant. Service was very good. Food as well. We highly recommend it if you are tired of the heat and noise outside. Definitely expensive in comparison to restaurants in the area.

We stayed two nights here before joining our cruise. It was very comfortable and in an excellent location. The highlight was breakfast or lunch in the rooftop restaurant looking across the rooftops of Athens to the Acropolis. Whilst the decor is a bit old fashioned for today's Great Brits, the staff were excellent and very helpful. Highly recommended.

Our suite at Hotel Grande Bretagne overlooked the square and the Parliament. We bought corn on the cob in the square, watched the guards change at Parliament, and enjoyed the people watching.

Perfect place to meet friends for a coffee - place is actually fairly quite and was never crowded during all the times visited.

Looked stunning, as my photo clearly shows, but the tea sandwiches are inexplicably toasted, the scones were so disappointing I ate exactly one bite, and when I requested more tea, I was given a small pot of boiling water, but the tea leaves in the cold pot were not cleaned or refreshed. Very underwhelming. Such a disappointment.

Even if you just go for dinner at the rooftop restaurant, it's worth the visit. You either look down to the changing of the guard at the Parliament building or across the city - about a mile away - to the Acropolis, illuminated at night. Excellent cuisine and service.

The total refurbishment of this luxury property is magnificent, and worth the experience. Make sure you dine on the roof top restaurant, with the best views, and culinary experience in Athens.

There was a parade when we were there. Very nice to watch. You can see it right from the hotel. So close.

Staying in Syntagma

Neighborhood Profile
Perhaps the best place to get your bearings is Syntagma Square, crowned by the imposing Parliament building on its upper side and surrounded by other large structures, such as the exclusive Hotel Grande Bretagne. The grand avenues that lead towards Omonia are also full of massive Neoclassical edifices like the Numismatic Museum and those around smaller Platia Kolokotroni. Here you will find lots of travel agents, bookshops and fashion shops, especially on Ermou Street. Just south of Syntagma Square, you can take a breather in the lush National Gardens, which extend into the grounds of the Zappeio palace and beyond to the ancient Temple of Olympian Zeus.
