This place was recommended to me by my hotel as being a spot where I could treat my wife to a more special dinner. I'm very glad they did - the food was delicious. Very authentic and not at all touristy. The waitstaff was attentive and very polite. However, the thing that really makes this a special place was the... More

Awesome food and great view! The staff was polite and prompt. The lemon potatoes melt in your mouth. Airy open seating on the third floor with a great view of the Acropolis.

The four of us had wonderful evening. The view and the food were both spectacular!! Beware the portions are huge. Each couple ordered the Rocket salad to share and 1 salad would have been enough for 4 of us. The service was also spot on!! We would go back in a heartbeat:-)

Well prepared traditional greek food in a great location. Great variety, fast service; call for reservations. If you only have one night and one dinner in Athens, go there

A landmark restaurant for many decades, Strofi attracts patrons for the uncommon views of the Acropolis, especially from the rooftop terrace and from certain tables in the dining. The cuisine is well done Greek home cooking: not necessarily light in the summer heat, but very well done. Cordial and impeccable service. Reservations necessary.

This place is amazing - definitely make a reservation (we did not, and still managed a great table - but I believe that was dumb luck). Bring your significant other - we brought our teenage kids - and it was great - but the experience is definitely suited to the romantic. We dined on excellent food, on a beautiful evening,... More

We had a great meal here. Lamb cops and Tender Kid (Goat ) in parchment were excellent. Service was good. This is recommended.

An easy walk from the city centre with a lot of activity in Plaka on the way up. We had a great rooftop table with a stunning view of the Acropolis. We went with friends and everything we ordered was good. The lamb chops were cooked to perfection and my daughter loved their take on a burger!

We spent our last evening of our 10 day Greece trip in Athens and dined at Strofi. The decor is lovely, the view of the Parthenon is very good (even from the inside-we had a small view from the window), service was excellent and attentive and the food was delicious! Prepared beautifully and fresh. The mains (lamb and stuffed pork)... More

Awesome view, right across the Acropolis. As a vegetarian the choices were great. Outstanding service. Be sure to book your roof top reservation well in advance!

Staying in Thissio / Makriyanni

Neighborhood Profile
Thissio / Makriyanni
Named after the well-preserved Thission (ancient temple of Hephaestus), Thissio is blessed with a small wooded park and some less frenetic streets that offer numerous quieter places to stay and eat. Largely pedestrianized Apostolou Pavlou Street runs between the Acropolis and forested Filopappou Hill, well worth climbing for more great panoramas, until it merges with Dionysiou Areopagitou Street. This leads to the up-and-coming area of Makriyanni, whose centerpiece is the magnificent new Acropolis Museum. Opposite the museum is the entrance to the southern slopes of the Acropolis, while the eponymous metro station nearby is at the top of Makriyanni Street, another strip of touristic cafés and restaurants.
