Really good shellfish rice

Small family run restaurant with great food. We had the shellfish rice for two persons and the house wine. It was delicious and there was plenty of seafood in the typical Portuguese dish. The portion was really big, even for two. The price-performance ratio is great. The owner cooks by herself and her husband serves. He is very attentive and friendly. A successful conclusion of our holiday. Highly recommended.

Food is awesome, Very fresh sea food , the stuff is fast And energic. the owner is so friendly And English speaker. We really enjoyed our time spent here. We would definitely come again when We Will come here to Castello Thank you so much, family Vasco!!

A superlative Portuguese dining experience

O Vasco stands out as an excellent traditional Portuguese restaurant. By traditional, I do not mean just traditional Portuguese food, which O Vasco certainly serves. It also has beautiful Portuguese tile wall art, and most of all, a friendly host who acts as though his guests are visiting him in his own home. It is also family-friendly: there were three other tables with children under 10 when we were there, and our host made much of them. My husband and I chose the cabrito, which was delicious, along with salad and a tasty boiled cabbage side dish. We also enjoyed the house dessert of custard pudding. O Vasco is easy to find in central Viana de Castelo, and gets our five stars for food, service, and atmosphere.

What a terrible place! We couldn't have dinner there and we will never try again. We called to ask how it worked and were told that there are no reservations but that on Saturday nights “it’s quiet”. When we got there we just asked if there were many people waiting and we were shocked when they told us that it was impossible and to look for another restaurant, but without ever looking at us! Wow... all this at 8:30 pm on a Saturday and we guarantee that we don't look like people who can't afford a meal to be denied like this.

The food is good value for money and the owner is very friendly and the service efficient. However, he didn't seem to care that he had failed to give us the half of the fish we had asked to take away on our last visit there just 3 weeks ago. He doubted us claiming that it was an accident and that his restaurant has been in business for 20 years. When we asked for a discount on today's meal, he bluntly refused. I suppose he doesn't care about customer satisfaction or loyalty because his restaurant is always busy.

Family lunch during the Viana parties: Inputs: dried and flavorless cod cookies. Dish: mihota cod, a good posture but without taste, few potatoes and virtually no sauce. No vegetables or salad. I ordered green wine from the house (7€ on the table). In the account they charge 10€ for the wine. We came in a rainy windy night, and felt good with the welcome we got. We choose the Rojões for 2, pretty good in a good size portion. We had the home-made egg pudding as dessert.All in all, a nice meal at fair prices (28€ for 2). Definitely deserves a visit, also because the owner is ever so nice and friendly.

A simple invitation not to stay

I called to reserve a table and was told that the restaurant was on a first-come, first-served basis. We decided to go on purpose. We got there and he simply invited us to go to the restaurant across the street as it had bigger tables. There was no sympathy or care. We went to dinner with small children as a family. The best deal. We were advised to order and what quantities, and they were right, neither leftover nor we fell short. Very kind. I called to reserve a table and they told me they didn't take reservations but at the time I told them we would go we had a table ready. Kindness and good food (we have eaten grilled fish). It is very worth it. Three of us had a great meal for €45!

A must to visit.

A small family run restaurant. Portuguese cooking. Lovely owner who asked if we wanted fish or meat and then made suggestions. One chose fish and one meat and both were equally good. Suggested wines were also excellent. We finished with a lovely home made chocolate mousse. Locals and French visitors also eating there. Highly recommended and well priced.
