Small restaurant (only few tables) hidden in a small street nearby the douro
(Try salted seabass or codfish)
Awesome portuguese food well cooked.
Probably the best I tried in two visits in Porto
I recommend it (advice : book before coming 😁)
Food was very, very good. We booked via Facebook messenger directly with the restaurant and made sure to have a photo of the confirmation just incase (having heard it’s hard to get a reservation). Personally found the service to be very good, we arrived and...our table was ready. Initially told they’d need the table back at 9pm (we booked for 7.30pm) - they very kindly said don’t worry, that reservation has cancelled so didn’t need to rush. They were turning people away continuously throughout the meal so definitely a popular spot! We ordered shrimps and clams to start and then the pork and octopus - both were delicious. They had a great wine menu too. We went for a more expensive wine that we’d had a few nights before elsewhere and liked but otherwise, the meal would have been about £45 between two of us for four sizeable courses plus water (on the more expensive side of Porto but you are paying for the taste of the food and the high demand of the place!). Would highly recommend going here if you can get a reservation and try booking via FB.More
Located in a small and narrow street close to the river the restaurant offers a cosy and welcoming environment! The food is delicious traditional portuguese food with a twist! The staff was very nice and engaging! We had an amazing evening! Muito obrigado!
Weeds & Garlic
We happened to walk by this quaint restaurant and had previously attempted a reservation and could not get one. We asked the owner, an old man, if we could get a last-minute reservation. He took one look at us and refused. Luckily,...one of his waiters came around and helped us secure a table, which was really nice of him.
The rest of the dinner was tense with nasty comments and poor service. While the ambiance could have been nice, the dishes which were primarily different versions of garlic with condiments such as fish, potatoes, meat, etc. left a lot to be desired.
What helped take the edge off an otherwise-miserable experience was the very nice wine bottle we managed to order.More
We ordered a salted fire fish (that’s what we called it but I don’t think it’s the actual name of the dish). It was a little pricey for what you get but the seabass tasted great and the spectacle around it with the fire is...amazing.More
Up a cobbled hill from the river this well Instagrammed place caught our eye. Very subtle signage and door that opens right into the tables! It’s like walking into someone’s lounge by mistake. Avoid the flaming fish it’s just for show. Food was well above...average and definitely worth a visit. The room is tiny 8 tables and the kitchen, I felt slightly uncomfortable and very self conscious being 2 ft away from the next diner, having to whisper or be overheard. It spoiled the experience for me. The place lacks atmosphere because of this. I don’t think even they understand why they are so popular on Instagram. Might be better for a sunny day’s lunch with the windows open.More
We started with octopus salad and a green salad. The octopus was slightly gritty and gave the impression in the mouth of a fatty layer between flesh & skin which was slightly unpleasant (we’d had a much better version previously with no fatty layer in...a bar by the river), green salad was generous, fresh & well dressed. We had seafood stew with beans (enjoyable) & salted cod as main course, the cod was OK but I found the topping to be like a slimey cardboard & scraped it all off. Dessert was what I could best describe as apple custard tart ( interesting, quite delicious & new to me) topped with the worst ‘meringue’ I have ever encountered encountered - think unspringy bathroom sponge. So, good points and bad points. Not sure I would recommend.More
The most fabulous gem of a restaurant, recommended by our hotel The House Ribeira. Left it too late to book for an evening and they were fully booked for the following two weeks however, lucky enough to book for a lunch the following day...although it...is possible to turn up and wait.. Food was amazing the salt crusted bream was delicious and the bacalhau was ginormous (no I didn't eat them both - one for me one for husband) and equally delicious. Cannot wait to return.More
Truly a gem! Not easy to find nor is it easy to be part of an exceptional dining service - tough to get a reservation - but then again if it was easy - what’s the point?? The service was exceptional and the food was...fantastic. Only been in Portugal for 10 days & this is the best meal so far. In fact, we liked it so much we reserved a table for 5 days after our first visit.More
