This restaurant is hidden in the middle of a steep street up from Ribeira.
Limited seating and menu but tasty food.
We had the squid and fried sardines appetizers which were very good. The mixed salad was ok, all the salad components individually cut and placed separately in a plate!
For mains, we tried the grilled sea bass and grilled shrimps. The shrimps was very tasty, but the sea bass was just ok, small sized but fresh.
Finally, we had the Portugese crème brûlée and lemon pie for dessert, both ok.
Waiter was serious, but nice and helpful. Prices acceptable 70€ for all of the above including a glass of white wine and sparkling water.
Recommended when looking for good seafood in Ribeira area.

Small restaurant with four tables. Family friendly , the waiter always welcoming. We ate three times. Can recommend the rabbit, sardines and seafood pasta, plus lime cake for dessert.

The restaurant is up a steep alleyway near to the river and it is so small that booking is advisable. We started with cod cakes and octopus in green sauce-both delicious. For mains we had hake. It was served with shredded green beans, which were perhaps not the best accompaniment. For pudding I had a baked custard which was a touch disappointing as it was the filling from a pastel de natis served on a saucer. Wines were amazingly good value and we were recommended a local wine at only €15. Good food, lovely staff, characterful restaurant.

This small restaurant just off the Cais da Ribeira has amazing food and plenty of wine choices. You’ll probably need a reservation—our hotel recommended it and helped us book a table. There is NO reason to settle for the touristy restaurants lining the riverfront in this area when a place as delicious as A Grade is steps away! Have the polvo (octopus), and trust the recommendations of the hardworking servers. Best meal I had in Portugal.

Picked this restaurant based upon previous trip advisor recommendations . The restaurant serves authentic Portuguese food and the owner and staff were very helpful and happy to discuss the dishes. Prices were very reasonable and I would recommend a visit if you are in Porto.
The restaurant is in a small side street so persevere to find it.

We had lunch at A Grade on our last day in Porto. The grilled sardines were well-prepared and quite good - standard fare in Portugal. My husband had the small steak which he enjoyed. Nothing too special about the food but just good simple traditional dishes, which is exactly what we came for. We ate outside since it was a beautiful day. Space in this cozy place is tight - it's literally carved into a hillside, so tables are quite close together. Would definitely recommend. Oh, the sangria was delicious!

We ate dinner at A Grade twice in October 2021. We had grilled sardines, olives, and cheese starters. Pork cheeks, baked cod, grilled veal cutlet, salads, house green, red and white wines, lime tart and chocolate mousse--quite a variety over the course of two meals. The food and wines were excellent, the service was busy but very friendly. The desserts are good too, but we could have skipped them. The real winners are the appetizers and dinners, especially the fish. I would love to return to A Grade.

We went to this restaurant based on the recommendation by Rick Steves in his travel book for Portugal. First, the restaurant is tucked in a hidden alley, absolutely providing no view of any sort to the waterfront. Second, the owner does not speak English or even understand it. Third, the owner caters to the locals or at least the tourists who could speak Portuguese. Reason is due to the language barrier, he gave us a wrong appetizer and when we alerted him of the mistake, he was not happy from that moment on. Why would we order calamari for app when we ordered octopus as one of the main dishes? In view of his poor command of English, shouldn't he double check with us what was ordered? Fourth, the food was totally below par. It was the worst among our 23 day trip in Portugal and Spain. Fifth, I didnt know they serve Japanese sashimi as the cod we ordered was totally undercooked with the centre of the fillet still cold and shinny.
All the time, the owner did not come back even once to ask if our food was okay. Like we said, he did not own up to his mistake in placing the wrong order for our appetizer dish. C'mon, how much it would have costed him even if he had to write off that app? And with the limited choices on the small menu, I could tell someone would have ordered that app soon after.

Obviously this is a place for tourists, located only a few minutes walking from the main tourist part of the city. It is a simple seafood restaurant. The food is not great not terrible. But a full plate portion of sardines contains only a 4 sardines (four pieces) and its price is €13. In the same plate you get three small potatoes and a few pieces of vegetables. The portion of salad is even smaller. And this was not a degustation menu. We had larger portions at the fine dining restaurant at dinner a day before. At least the service was fine.

We loved our experience at A Grade. Our waiter was so friendly and helpful. He told us lots of history about the wine of Porto and also kindly filleted our fish for us. He also provided very helpful recommendations. He was so accommodating offering my mother a chair before he had cleared the table. Service could not have been better.
Food was delicious, the prawns for main course stole the show and we felt we could’ve had another portion they were so good! Seabass was also lovely!
Special almond cake for dessert was also delicious!
Would recommend!

We stayed at a hotel in Puerto that was right next to the river. There were tons of riverside restaurants but we decided to walk around a little bit and in a small alley we saw this tiny restaurant with six tables under an awning outside and a few tables inside. The place was packed. We were lucky to get an outside table and were happy to see a very quick service and a top quality dining experience. The fish we tried on two occasions grilled and fried sardines, the shrimp in garlic sauce and the kid roast, the veal chops and most notably their almond cake was phenomenal. We stayed in Porto two nights and both nights dined in a Grade. Wish we were there for more days for there were many other items on the menu we would have loved to try.

Small family restaurant that serves authentic Portuguese cuisine. Ordered the Sardines, Octopus and Calde Verde - all tasty and home cooked. Grilled Sea Bass was naturally delicious and the simple boiled potatoes, heavenly. The best was the Almond Tart. Service is great and recommended wine was yummy!

The restaurant occupies a nice "small" space up a little narrow alley right off of Ribeira Square.
We did not have lunch reservation but were welcomed by our friendly host who seated us right away.
We all started with a local soup followed by fried sardines, salad and clams. The clams were ok, but not as good as those experienced elsewhere. Overall, the food was average but had a good price point. Would return.

Just had a fantastic dining experience at this establishment. The quality of ingredient is excellent and everything we ordered was superbly prepared. Service was friendly as well as most efficient. I would happily come back even tomorrow to dine here again even though I normally do not visit the same place more than once when visiting a location for a short time.

Came here as a group of 8 and were thankful they could fit us in. Prices were reasonable but food very average. Grilled octopus and the octopus in green sauce appetiser were good, but a bit bland. Cabbage and potato soup was fine but bland. Daughter did not like the fried octopus. Pig cheeks were ok. Overall meh.
