Tipical portuguese restaurant very close to the old town. Almost its staff was people with mucho experience and that gave us confidence. Caldo verde was tasty although Posta (cow meat) was fantastic (a little bit raw but It was solved fastly). Finally, Pastel de Bolacha...charged our battery and allowed us to walk the rest of the day.More

This churrascaria is another Portuguese gem. We showed up after a visit to the Museo Nacional de Soares dos Reis that was shorter than planned because they were doing some repairs to it. Amusingly, we had lunch on the other side of the crystal palace...the day before at another excellent churrasqueira. In this One you walk in by the bar. a little puzzled I asked almoço? (Lunch?). The bartender nodded to the rear of the bar area where we were met by our cheerful, friendly waiter. He walked us through a large empty diningroom into a smaller room with a window at the front of the restaurant. I asked in my broken Portuguese if they had porco preto hoja (black pork today). He said sim and brought us menus that were primarily Portuguese with small english subtitles. I had the half serving black pork and my husband had a half serving veal steak. They were accompanied by a plate of rice, a plate of fries and a cauldron of black beans with some sausage and ribs. You have to understand that we have eaten only seafood with a some home cooked of chicken While in Porto for 20 days. We got two glasses of house wine (lovely) and a half litre of water. We could barely finish one third of the food they brought us. We took the leftovers home because they offered takeaway on the menu so we were sure they had the packagingnto do that. We had two full meals from these leftovers. Note: a large group of a planned luncheon in our room came in just after we ordered and I thought, well there goes the service. But no, he maintained his kind and friendly attention throughout our meal, serving the loud and happy large group and us. As we walked out through the large diningroom, it was filled to the brim with young professionals. He had done us a kindness by seating us in the quieter backroom. It is this kind of restaurant (service, food, kindness) that makes us stay in love with Porto. Look past touristic, fast food places for the genuine Portuguese restaurants. Learn a little more Portuguese every day and use the niceties with everyone you meet. You will love Porto even more every day. This may be your vacation, but this is their life.More

The veal chops was to die for and my husband loved the pork belly. Unbelievable quality for the price and the service was fantastic. We will be back but at the moment so full can't move. Highly recommend

We both ordered the half sized portions. Mine was rump steak, cooked to perfection in a lovely garlicky butter but there were four steaks! It was served with large slices of pineapple- different. My husband had rib eye which practically filled the plate. Accompaniments were...a huge plate of French fries, rice and a pot of beans. Sad to say, we hardly touched them but nearly managed to eat all of the steak! The bill, including two beers was less than 30 Euros.More

This place is really sweet. The staff are nice, the place looks authentic and the food is lovely. BUT they are the biggest portion sizes I have seen in my life. We got a half portion (a half!!!) of steak and it came with 4...separate steaks! Means such good value for money.More

Close to the bust of the Duke of Wellington, Arthur Wellesley, O Assador Tipico is a steak house popular with locals. The restaurant seemed full of Portuguese and the waiters in my experience do not speak English but this should not put you off from...visiting. It is nothing special inside and a 'no-frills' experience but if you are a meat lover you should love this place. After several false starts at ordering a meal with our rudimentary Portuguese, our very patient waiter explained that we only needed to order a single 'full' size steak to have between us and he was not wrong. The portion size is enormous and would barely fit on the large plate so we cut it in half and tucked in. Served with the nicely cooked steak were both chips and rice so take your pick or have both. Recommended for a real local experience.More

This is a great restaurant for carnivores. We had a delicious dinner here. Despite ordering the smaller sized portions, they were still huge. I had fillet Mignon which wasn’t quite as I recall fillet Mignon but really tasty and tender anyway. I think it was...about €14. A vegetarian friend was disappointed but she is finding European countries often don’t cater well for vegetarians, unlike Australia. Service is friendly and although we don’t speak Portuguese and the waiter (perhaps owner) speaks little English we still managed well and had a great time. Desserts were individually packaged ice creams, Italian-style, with the Streets Icecream logo but by another name. €2 or €3 each. Beware the slippery floor though - maybe the result of grilling meat, but don’t know. Although online it indicated the restaurant didn’t open till 8pm we found it was open at 7pm, which suited our dining time better.More

my family went here for supper, on the recommendation of our hotel proprietor. the food was acceptable, but not exceptional, except for the steak, which was better than average. nobody spoke English, and frankly, nobody was friendly. the service was downright poor, and what makes...it even more noteworthy, was it was not busy, as we like to have dinner early. while we were there, another couple got in an argument with their waiter, and another lady, after being seated, walked out, so we were not the only patrons disappointed with the service. the portions are big, but mostly, it is potatoes of some nature, esp. french fries. and I was shocked that they only accepted Portuguese credit cards, not those issued in the U.S.More

Chicken was very good, nice service, no long waits and the food was very inexpensive. Good wine and our waiter was fantastic--Pinto!
