Some of our specialities are served on hot Oak Planks. The hot Oak Planka maintain a nice temperature of the food during the time the meal is consumed but without any further cooking. Pay us a visit and you will be able to enjoy the best view Funchal has to offer while eating tasty meals prepaired with (antibiotic and groth hormone free) veal so called "Carne Mirandesa". If your preference is fish then we sugest our specialties, the wonderful Tuna fish grilled on charcoal grill or the Oven Baked Cod fish or the salmon. Our wines are carefully choosen and of high quality and taste. For reservations visit our website or call us directly.

When we arrived (we had a booking) staff told us we had to order and eat quickly. They rushed us to order, asking us to order several times before we had opened menu. Screaming kids a plenty. Prices outrageous. I strongly think that we were...just a number. Not treated like guests. Never again. 30aud for a pizza in some cases.More

Well I could answer you in many ways however all would still be very rude and I don´t think I possess enough vocabulary to express the way I despise you since you demonstrate to be a human being with no worth or honesty at all...More

Have been there for Valentine’s Day. The food was great, we were suggested a really nice bottle of wine and we had an awesome view over Funchal! Perfect evening.

Took us a while to get there up the steep hill, take the most direct route and don't miss a turn like us :-) We sat on a table next to the window and were gobsmacked by the amazing views right out over Funchal. Had...the soups and bread to start then the Espetadas, you have to try the veal if you come, it's delicious. Staff were very friendly and attentive even though they were run of their feet with a large coach party taking up most of their time. At the end of the meal we were invited by a very friendly waiter onto the rooftop terrace for some fizzy wine courtesy of the house and spent a good 30 minutes soaking in the view and the atmosphere on our own while the delicious smell of the wood burning ovens filled our nostrils, trying to tempt us further. Would love to come back and would recommend highly.More

We have found this restaurant while staying on Madeira and were treated not only with an amazing view but also delicious food (Starters: avocado w/ shrimp & bread soup; Main Course: salmon & tuna, Dessert: lime/choc mousse). The service was outstanding: The waiters took great...care of us, recommended an excellent choice of wine and made sure that our glasses were always refilled. We felt very welcomed in every aspect - therefore we would definitly recommend to drive uphill and visit this lovely restaurant. In case you get the chance to go onto the rooftop of the restaurant, go for it and enjoy the views... especially around christmas time Funchal looks beautiful with its decorations. Cheers again for a wonderful evening!More

A great place to eat, combining really good food with a fantastic view of Funchal and so nice and friendly service and cook. We were there at Christmas 2019 eating avocado-prawn salad, veal-steak, salmon and lime/passion fruit mousses with super wines and good coffee afterwards....It couldn't have been better! Really worth the trip up! We have enjoyed our stay in Madeira and Restraurant Planka was one of our highlights!More

Be aware that this restaurant is way up on the hill near the botanical gardens and we went on Christmas Day. The taxi fare there and back to Funchal came to 36 euros. The service was very good. We both had a starter of bread...soup which was interesting. I had a local veal on a wooden plank. It was medium but a little indigestible. The vegetables were the toasted mash cones whihc always look preprepared with fried green peppers which in my experience are always tastless. My wife had the grilled trout which looked good and was probably a better choice. We both has an orange sponge roll with chocolate ice cream scoop for desert. House wine was acceptable, rounded off with coffee. Total 67 euros which is a fair price but not worth the expensive taxi ride. I noticed a bus stop outside but there are no buses on Christmas Day. The view over the sea and town was good but not as good as the view from our hotel [Ocean Gardens] and the view is spoilt by lots of car parks and concrete walls nearby.More

We had the banana fish and sausage filled chicken. Both were superb. The bread soup and passion fruit dessert were delicious as well. Our waiter was a super nice and interesting guy from Kashmir. We went right before the sunset and were the only customers....Fantastic experience all around.More

We walked here from our airbnb. Some of us had sadly already eaten, but had starters and desserts, and were accommodated graciously. The vegetable barbecue skewer had some interesting vegetables on it - I appreciated having a vegetarian option even if the main focus is...meat. The wine was good. The waiter was super friendly and helpful. It's nice to find someone who cares about the quality of their meat! We were surprised that the 'ice cream' appeared to be a mousse, and this did rather spoil our mood when the waiter told us that they had served it frozen on previous occasions and people had complained it was too hard.More

Hello David, Yes you can take either walk the buss road ( Caminho das voltas) or the other very steep road (Caminho do meio). The buss road is the easyest way to walk or by car. Kind Regards, Restaurante Planka
