We'd been staying at Blue Gardens Madeira (formerly Savoy) and our Tui rep told us recommended to eat at a specific restaurant. She went on to tell us to go down the road, past the Sushi place and eventually you'll arrive - it doesn't look...much but the food is superb. We followed her instructions to the letter - and as it seemed like we were heading out of town into a residential area 50 metres or so past the sushi place, we came across this place which was open - and Tapassol next door (which was closed). It later turned out she was referring to Solar da Ajuda which wasn't past the sushi place at all - and was in fact on the left, directly opposite (some rep, eh?) Anyway we were so relieved the this inaccurate advice as we had an amazing meal. I personally had the best steak I'd had in a long time - 24oz ribeye, as well as an interesting cheese & garlic bread starter beforehand. The staff here are absolutely brilliant - very friendly, engaging and we had an amazing couple of hours. Although it's at the more costly end of dining in the Funchal outskirts, it was most definitely worth it. Try this place - you won't be disappointed.More

Without doubt the best meal we had in Madeira. The meat was tender, cooked as we had asked and so so tasty. Thank God we didn’t have starters! Just amazing food. I didn't have steak (apologies strange for a steakhouse), my chicken was so tasty though. My husband had steak and loved it. All the food coming out looked superb. I really liked the little trio of dips/sauces that came out with the...main meal. We had a range of empanadas to start, which were fantastic. Wine choice was excellent and I couldn't have had a nicer night. The atmosphere was lively and the waiters friendly and very knowledgeable. This was our second visit and I'm so pleased we returned again on this holiday. It was nice to see them doing so well seven years after our first visit. Absolutely the best steak I’ve had in a very long time. Very large and perfectly cooked to my liking. Would highly recommend but make sure you book ahead as it was extremely busy both nights we went. Great value and friendly staff.

Booked following a personal recommendation, and so glad that we did. Great steak, well cooked, but it was the service and the ambience that made the evening even more special. The chilli chimichurri is awesome!

The steaks are awesome as is the wine choice. Huge portions so don’t each much before hand. Not the cheapest but in my opinion value for money. Great and friendly service. Highly recommend

Had the ribeye with baked potato at La Vaca Negra last night. Perfect accompaniment to what was the best steak I've ever eaten. Such a simple plate of food, but so well done. House red was excellent too.

Last night in Madeira so it had to be something special. This place certainly fitted the bill. There was one anxious moment when I was asked if I had booked (I hadn't) but they found me a table. Unlike some restaurants I have been to,...the staff didn't treat me like I had two heads. In fact, they were lovely. My steak was thick and juicy and my Malbec complemented it well. Well worth a visit if you like red meat.More

Amazing food and drinks. Staff super friendly. Highly recommend to visit. Portion sizes are huge so go hungry! All steaks come with salad or chips. Cocktails are lovely. Pricey but high quality food.

Yes, I know it’s a steak restaurant and the steaks taste delicious. BUT the portion sizes are too rigid. I like a steak but I don’t want to be presented with a huge slab of meat, weighing a good 500g. Having been here before, I...asked for a small fillet steak and was laughed at. It was done in a jovial way so I wasn’t offended but when my steak came, it was just too huge. Firstly, it is such a waste of food and secondly, it is so off-putting. I ate the first half and left the rest. I would be so pleased if the restaurant could consider offering a few smaller portion sizes.More
