Although the restaurant does not have a webpage we booked a table because we had a good feeling about the place. We were very pleasantly surprised because everything was super! The location very nice in a side street of Funchal’s old town, the setting very modern and stylish and the food very, very good! The restaurant offers a broad specter of vegan meals, which are very creative, balanced and delicious. The way vegan food should be! I believe we were served by the owners of the place, they were very friendly, chilled but also very professional and knowing what they are offering. Recommend 100%!

We were looking for lunch and walked past many cheap restaurants catering to tourists until we turned a corner and recognised a restaurant where we had good eating some years back. Now, revamped by new owners to cater for more selective diners whether meat-eaters or vegans or anything in between.
My wife had a beetroot dish with a sauce she declared outstanding, I had scampi prawns served with local bread. We each had a tikka marsala curry for our main course, mine with chick peas, hers with prawns. The curry was full of flavours and well seasoned.
The service was leisurely and the owners charming.

This restaurant was recommend by friends that has stayed several times on the cruise ships that the owners worked on. Lovely interior, lovely friendly waitressing staff and good to have a different option on our stay in Madeira, in fact we are here twice out of our 4 night stay.
The menu is more upper class than other typical restaurants that surround it although the prices are very reasonable. We both share the humus, onion and mushrooms to start which came with a load of bread as standard when you sat down which was lovely and both had chicken tikka for main which was quite a large portion and very tasty.
Next night we shared the pork spring roll and both had chilli which I thoroughly enjoyed as included lots of beans and pulses and then we shared the pineapple coconut sundae.
The menu is very interesting as includes one dish from many countries in the world so you are able to try different cuisines or tastes but with the familiarity of dishes you know on the menu.
When I come back to Madeira in a few years time I will definitely be coming back but I suspect this will be edging towards a Michelin recommendation or star so I can imagine prices will increase somewhat. However I don’t think that will stop me!!

I ordered the Beetroot Tartare, which was basically cubes of beetroot, a coin size slice of tofu and some salad leaves (see photo). This cost €20!! It was disappointing for a veggie main & so over priced! The staff were friendly, the restaurant has a nice aesthetic and the vegan brownie I had for dessert was delicious but the meal cost a lot more than it was worth.

A menu full of exciting flavour combinations, inspired by a few different cuisines that married together into some quality dishes, often using fresh Madeiran ingredients. Highly attentive & friendly staff & a relaxed and welcoming atmospere. Good portion sizes & the complementary amuse bouche & chocolates were a thoughtful and appreciated touch. Also some delicious vegan and vegetarian options (which have been hard to find in Funchal). We loved it & will recommend to anyone we know visiting Madeira!

We came across this good looking restaurant completely by accident! A very happy accident on many levels.
You could see from the outside that a lot of thought had gone into the experience. I really didn’t expect there to be a vegan option let alone a completely fresh and exciting take on a plant based diet – with some incredibly thought out yet simple ingredients celebrating flavour.
So much attention to detail has gone in to the whole experience, everything from the branding, interior and exterior design, to the exceptional personal and friendly service and beautifully fresh dishes they proudly serve.
During our week here we were able to enjoy three meals - each one was sheer delight.
Thanks so much for making us so welcome and making our first holiday as ‘vegans’ a delight.
Their menu takes inspiration from their travels - the passion and knowledge behind this is so evident. I’ve been meaning to leave a fitting review but am not great with words. All I can say is go and try for yourself - there’s no way you will be disappointed. Support these guys they rock!

Lovely little location in a covered outside area, friendly staff who know the menu and will make accommodations for dietary needs and a third of the menu is vegan and all the menu was dairy free but the rest of it fell short. It’s very expensive (3 x the price of an average meal we experienced on the island), the food was average at best and the expensive wine was not nice. The vegan dishes were very simple and nothing special and the meat dishes were just OK. We also had long wait times between ordering and courses arriving

If you are looking for something special and a little different then This is the restaurant for you. The menu is based on dishes from around the world. Our meal started with a complimentary taster dish of tofu and marinated fruits..it was tiny but delicious. We then shared the pork spring roll starter (just as well as there were three of them) with a Portuguese sweet chilli sauce . I had the chicken satay which was amazing and my husband had the Mexican pulled pork tortilla which was equally as good. To finish we tried 4 types of Madeira wine with a chocolate to compliment thier flavours. Service was impeccable ( I was offered a taste of the wine I chose before the glass was poured and our waitresses were attentive without being intrusive ) lovely background music being played and the outside seating was really comfy. They also so some really imaginative vegetarian and vegan dishes including 3 vegan deserts . It’s a bit more expensive but worth every penny and was the best meal we had on our holiday…

We have been coming to
Madeira for 30 years and have our favourite restaurants. Tonight we thought we’d try something different and found Terra on our stroll out. A great find in the back streets which we’ll put on our go to list. The staff were friendly and informative and guided us through the menu which is a selection of dishes from around the world. It caters for everyone including vegans & vegetarians. Wonderful tasty food & well presented.

Outstanding food and service. My wife and I were looking for a restaurant with vegetarian/vegan options in Funchal and stumbled upon Terra as we were headed to a different restaurant. We were immediately drawn in by the unique menu and ambience. The waiters were extremely amicable and made us feel very welcomed. Cocktails were delicious. Food portion sizes were good. While it is not an exclusively vegetarian/vegan restaurant, the majority of the menu is. Every dish we had from appetizer to entree to dessert was excellent. The presentation of the food was impressive. The amuse bouche and chocolates were a nice touch. Would highly recommend this restaurant to all!

Tried this relatively new restaurant (opened April 2022) in the back streets of Funchal centre and was treated to an unexpected delight. The staff were extremely welcoming, friendly and relaxed, the food was superb, and the whole experience was flawless. This is clearly a well run business, where every attention to detail has been carefully thought through.
The food was innovative with outstanding flavour and texture balances. Mushroom and Humus to start, and Thai Green Mussels - also on the menu as a starter - was 'no problem at all' with a side of rice for the main. The prices are slightly higher than average, but absolutely worth it.
As a gauge of the level to stoop to to suggest any improvement at all, I thought the aesthetically appealing crockery (plates and serving bowls) had a rough texture which was unappealing on contact with cutlery. Hardly a problem, right?
Very well done to everyone involved at Terra, especially the chefs. I very much look forward to returning.

The service and staff here were excellent. The service was quick, the staff were really friendly, attentive and chatty. Terra serves really tasty attractive looking plates of food and good cocktails (large drinks menu too).
While there is a vegetarian/vegan option, there isn't choice, but this is probably because the menu is just generally small (not an issue for us).
Although the food and drink is really nice and we would recommend, we dont think its quite worth the price you are paying (for food and drinks). The "concept" of the resturant doesnt really add value to the food and drinks, the small portions are probably typical of a fine dining resturants and therefore this isn't a "selling point". From our experience the "firsts"/starters were still smaller than the "seconds"/mains, which isn't an issue but negates the "concept" as explained to us.
Overall it is a really great resturant, just off the busy streets in funchal, it has a great atmosphere, great staff, service and food. But maybe slightly over priced in our opinion.

We were staying close by in a hotel and although the food, there was absolutely excellent (Castanheiro Boutique Hotel) we just wanted a change for our 7 night holiday so my partner did a local search to verify this restaurant, which had also been visited by a fellow guest who gave good feedback.
The small restaurant has a “relaxed vibe“ with large tables and bench seats, so if you are looking for a formal type restaurant with your own private table, this might not be for you, but if you enjoy great food from around the world, then we highly recommend it, as the dishes on offer were unusual and delicious.
The staff were very good and particular, one of the young guys, that owned it, and who explained the menu to us and served our wine was extremely good, knowledgeable, welcoming and friendly.
Reasonably priced, EXCELLENT food, great service - we’d definitely go back if we ever visited madeira again.

It was so refreshing to find a vegan place in Funchal, totally unexpected, and a delicious experience!
The menu is pretty sophisticated, but without being pretentious. Just delicious food made with wholesome ingredients by people who really do care about providing great vegan and vegetarian fare, rather than doing it as an afterthought or because they think they should cash in on a growing trend. The owner was really welcoming and spent plenty of time talking to us about veganism, and about his passion for great food.
Although much of my diet is plant based, I do still like some fish, so started with Green Mussels and Coconut in a Thai Green Curry Broth, followed by Ghati Masala Prawns and a fudgy vegan brownie. All my dishes were fresh, delicious and obviously prepared with love! If you are vegan/vegetarian I don't think you'll be disappointed with the delicious plant-based menu.
The staff were really friendly, the atmosphere was exciting and on a balmy evening, it's a real pleasure to eat alfresco. This will become one of our favourite eateries when we next visit Madeira for so, and really looking forward to dining here again!

The place has recently been reopened, and we gave it a try. Tasty warm humus (although without tahini and insufficient olive oil, therefore some would argue it doesn't quite qualify as humus) with dried plums and mushroom sauce, as well as OK bread (for these two items, we give the one star).
But then, the most strange salad (small portions, to make things worse): mango and avocado, instead of a nice dressing, are soaked in lemon juice: you literally feel you are injuring your taste buds. I have some strange obsession not to waste food, so I forced myself to eat all of it (my wife gave up after tasting hers): even water tasted strange after this revolting experience...I had to order another bread to get over it.
I doubt these guys taste the food they sell, or they would do something about this salad!

Dear DamD11, we would like to apologize for the fact that you didn´t enjoy your experience on our place.
We do feel terribly sad when we have someone that we cannot meet the expectations.
I would just like to comment on two matters spoken by you (not making excuses, but rather try to show our point of view).
There are no dried plums on the hummus, or in the restaurant in fact (for now).
The mango and avocado salad you do have a valid point, if your expectation was to find a dressing on it. The thing is here in TERRA we try to honor the cultures that we have visited and "represent" on our menu, and in the Caribean and most of South America, there are no dressings. The dressing on itself is the lime juice.
Again we do feel terrible, to find that you had such a bad experience with us, but please do come back as we are changing our menu into a winter menu next week, and maybe the choices will suit you better.
