Loved every little bit of my first lunch at Madeira! Very nice owners, brother and sister who run a very tiny cozy place and serves one of the best fishes I've ever had (I'm portuguese and came from the capital so I eat fish regularly)! In the end we paid 47€ for 3 adults and one child but we got... More

At Jacques they only serve fish, but it will probably be the best fish you eat in Madeira. Tiny no frills restaurant with wooden table and chairs serving the freshest of fish cooked in the traditional way and very reasonable. Just eat what's recommended and you won't go wrong.

Not often you run into a place that just feels cosy and warm. This place is one of those places. Nice rustic food without any hussle and fuzzle. Service works like a clock and I guarantee that you won't leave here with empty stomach, in fact you will be rolling to the streets of Funchal with smile in your face... More

Tiny restaurant at the market end of Rua Santa Maria, Very basic wood tables and stools, they only serve fish and the typical overcooked boiled vegetables. The best is scabbard fish marinated in white wine and garlic, and the garlic butter limpets cooked in special pan, not to be missed.

Went for dinner and had one of the best fish meals ever. Started with limpets, then on to scabbard fish and finished with coffee. Very easy to dine. The owner recommends the best dishes, fills up your glass when empty and doesn't mess about with sweets and covers. Highly recommend. Very reasonable.

Recommended by my dive instructor as the best fish restaurant on the island in March. It is very small and basic, wooden stools to sit on, no menu, run by a brother and sister. The recommendation was correct – I have never tasted fresher prawns or such wonderfully flavoured scabbard fish. We returned in April, arriving 10 minutes before opening... More

A small authentic restaurant that kick started our holiday. You basically have what Jaquet recommends - the catch of the day. This comes with the standard wedges and vegetables. The white fish was cooked beautifully however the tuna was slight over done. This is simple cooking done well. More of an experience than a relaxing dinner but worth trying for... More

If you like a really traditional meal, no menu, but amazing fresh cooked food in front of your eyes. It gets very busy and there is no booking, so arrive early when they open. They just keep topping up your plates until you are ready to burst! Great value for money! This is an experience you really have to try!... More
