We tried this restaurant based on the Lonely Planet and was disappointed. We both had starters and main courses, all dishes were average, my starter was not nice. Its over priced. The outstanding was the very cheerful waitress welcoming us and always had a nice smile throughout the evening.

I was going elsewhere but my bus didn't stop. I headed down to the Old Town and was walking past this lovely little place that I'd never got round to visiting when I was told about the Fado. She said it was good - BUT NOT THIS GOOD. I've enjoyed fado in lots of places and I've heard commercial and... More

Located in the old town (behind the bus station). This is a very nice restaurant. We ate there twice. The toilets are spotless, always a good sign. Had a lunch and dinner. Wide range of Maderan foods. Good fish and meat dishes. Excellent service and good value. Friendly helpfull staff

Excellent restaurant but reservation was necessary on the evening we went, it was very busy. Food was good but slightly too much on my plate for my appetite. Had starter of local cheese which was huge followed by Chicken with garlic and wine ... very good and accompanying dishes were good too. Fado (live music) was lovely, two guitarists and... More

Lunch with garlic bread, scabbard fish with banana and passion fruit, grilled sardines, tuna and egg salad. Attentive and helpful staff. Lots of choice of restaurant on Santa Maria. This one well worth a visit.

I am pretty much of a foodie and don't really like to rely on luck, but this place was a lucky finding! We had a really nice lunch after a very long tour by foot. Fish soup was nicest that we had in Madeira, and their fried octopus... I am still dreaming of it!! Also they make amazing sweet potato...... More

Old town area along the roads where there are lots of restaurants to choose from, this was recommended. Clean tables and pleasant staff but the food was average and can be found in lots of restaurants. Chicken on a sqewer ok, Chips and veg cold and salad basic

We were attracted to this place because of the fado being advertised. We ate on a Wednesday night. After perusing the menu we decided to have the tasting menu. Local bread, soup, fish, beef, desert and coffee. Not sure it was the best choice. Bread was ok, the soup was very strange. Herb flavoured water with a poached egg in... More

On our first night we stumbled upon this restaurant on a quiet Monday evening. This was about the only restaurant that was busy and may have been due to the local music. Excellent food and wine with superb service. Highly recommended.

Seating both indoor and outdoor possible. We had starter / main and dessert. All very good. Live music was a very nice background for the meal.
