Oh my God...here you need an empty belly and a desire to eat excellent food...Portuguese food. We staid for 4nights and 3of them we eat here...very nice stuff, a beautiful lady and 3 gentlemen...the lady looks said all the time, but she is very nice and a beautiful maderense lady. All of them very helpful and funny. In the last... More

This came recommended in our travellers Madeira book so we thought it was worth trying. Their dishes were less commercialised than the others on the street and offered a lot more local recipes from different parts of Madeira. Lovely service from our waiter, for whom nothing was too much trouble, even when I sent the house white wine back twice... More

Even though we almost skipped this place due to it having "only" 4 stars, we are happy we went for it. The staff should be thanked for this because they were really nice and communicative and we felt a good connection. The food was quite good too. They had courses we didn't find at other places. The piri piri chicken... More

There isn't much to distinguish restuarants from one another along the main old steet in Funchal. However, the Donna Maria refreshingly spares passers by the faded pictures of food outside the entrance and the pushy front of house staff. The charismatic and multilingual waiter serving the outside tables on the night we visited was appropriately attentive looked after us well.... More

We ate here twice last week. We had eaten here three years ago so on our return to Funchal we headed there and had a good meal so decided to return on the Sarurday for a special meal. We took the precaution of calling in at lunchtime to book a table and even agreed which table we wanted. You can... More

We only found this restaurant on our last night. Down an alley with beautifully painted doors which we had passed during the day but must have spent too much time looking at the painting and missed this wonderful restaurant!. Friendly efficient service with great food. We started with garlic bread served in a paper bag then both had the garlic... More

Donna Maria is situated down the side streets and some of the tables are outside on the narrow street, but we sat inside. The restaurant is very nicely laid out with a good ambience, and the staff very attentive. The food was excellent I had steak and my wife Octopus both done Donna Maria style melt in your mouth. We may... More

I had tried to book using "the fork" but received no confirmation so decided to telephone. We wanted somewhere within easy walking distance of The Municipal Theatre for a 9.30pm Saxaphone concert so allowed 2hrs in advance but 1hr 40mins would have been sufficient time. We were warmly welcomed by all the staff. Everyone was most helpful. I had scallops... More

This cafe is in an alley full of ceases and beautifully painted doors. We had limpets, tomato and cheese salad, grouper and black scabbard fish all prepared in the regional style. It was all very good except the grouper was a bit overdone. With wine, starters, entrees and a bottle of wine was just 79€. The service was extremely kind... More

Little gem of a restaurant! We were enticed into the restaurant by the charming hostess and the variety of the menu (by this point, one our friends wanted a break from fish and the vegetarian options were perfect for her). The atmosphere is warm and inviting with attentive staff and the dishes were delicious as well as good value for... More
