This place is a treasure, it feels unhurried and honest. The friendliest service we encountered in Funchal which was backed by delicious food at very reasonable prices. The best lapas we had on the island. I was so happy to have discovered A Bica, looking forward to returning there.

It's just a doorway on the street so you may not notice it. A French couple saw us looking at the menu and recommended that we go in (it was in their Le Routard guide) We were so pleased that we ate there five times even though we were half an hour walk away. It's a busy little basement full... More

I'm not going to elaborate on this one. Even though many people are writing good reviews about A Bica, I am not raving about it. We had calamars and grilled tuna with garlic which came with boiled potatoes and vegetables. Again, the food is OK, but lacking creativity when it comes to seasoning and presenation. The only advantage here is... More

Had superb lunch here twice during one week. Both times took from daily meny, and ate really delicious, fresh food. Service was polite and helpful, waiters was able to tell about the food and expalin it properly even for a foreigner. Place is full lunchtime. Be prepared to eat in a noisy, lovely traditional local restaurant!

I will not rate the food because taste is subjective. The atmosphere is hindered by being below street level. However, the service is exceptional and authentic. Owned by an uncle and nephew, they immediately welcome you to their "home". As the nephew speaks six languages, he is likely to express his hospitality in your native language. One would be hard...
