Hi, I've decided to write about the experience at Casanova, today, July 8th, 2020 and usually i wouldn't write about this because i thought is a delicate one.
My friend invited me to meet there to have lunch and he was a little late i...got in line to wait for my turn (Covid-19 style...lines...).
When my turn arrives and as I was asked how many places and where, I answered two and "outside" which is generally in the covered area.
The young waiter tells me they are all full and i could choose inside instead but my friend asked me specifically outside, as I am not a regular to the place.
The waiter tells me: I will check and let you know. As he comes back, someone approaches my left side and, disregarding my presence there asks the guy: Are you open? the answer was "yes" and the guy says: "two places please".
As i looked at him, he immediatelly apologizes by saying:" Sorry, i didn't noticve you were there!" (as me, a dark skin, Brazilian native, 6 foot tall, am invisible).
The waiter then turns again to me and says: "Yes, we have places outside but uner the sun or inside the restaurant."
Well, m y friend wants to sit outside as he knows the place: Outside, please, under the sun!"
Reply from the waiter: Ok, but you cannot change later!
My answer: No worries (i have enough melanine i thought).
As he drives me inside, passing the outside covered area, I noticed plenty of places available for me and my friend.
Sit outside, under the sun and I became restless.
All white people sitting under the shade, i think 10 places available in the cobvered area and one dark skin guy sitting under the sun (which i realized became pretty hard).
My friend comes, he is Portuguese, white and asks me:"Why are you sitting under the sun when there are places available in the covered area?"
I told him the whole story and he calls the waiter: "Can we sit in the covered area, please?"
Waiter answer: "I will check with that group over there if yopu can sit in the corner table." (which had enough space between us and them if that was the case.)
The waiter comes: "The lady says she doesn't feel comfortable with your presence there."
My t friend replies: "Can we go inside instead?"
The waiter replies: "Yes, you can."
So, why could he change places and I couln't?
Why did the waiter tells me there were no places in the covered area when there where some available?
My friend, preferred to joke around the subject and said: "You are black!"
I just didn't feel like creating a problem there but from my point of view, Casanova just lost respect.
If you are not white or doesn't fit a certain kind of customer, you have mno place there and I am not saying this because of the times we are living in but because you can feel on some people's attitude that kind of prejudice.
So, my review on Casanova's experience today is not a good at all but rather a one to forget and never to set foot there again.More
