About
he emblematic Espelho de Agua building has been renovated and is the setting for the Espelho d'Agua Space project. In 2012 the Lisbon Tourism Association (ATL) held a public tender to operate part of the Espelho de Agua building, which is located in Belem, facing the River Tagus. The space comprises 1,200m2 and was first built in 1940 for the Exhibition of the Portuguese World. The central idea of the winning project was to bring contemporary cultures from the different regions visited by Portugal on its sea voyages to the spot where, five centuries ago, Portuguese people set off for the world. Following the renovation works, the Espelho d'Agua Space has emerged with a concept that is in tune with the original architectural identity of the building. Its aim is to house gastronomy, a gallery for art and design, music, cinema and video and other forms of cultural expression.

Beautiful building; nice terraces; nice views. Catering/dining was quite good; drinks were OK to good, but very strict in closing times,

Nicely done and somewhat upmarket restaurant and art gallery. Nan made pond surrounds it from most sides. Nice place to relax.

Lively place to sit down and have drink, but service is awful. Perhaps didn't get the attention as didn't have food.

It was one of the worst restaurants in terms of service we have been to. We had to wait more than an hour to have our lunch served, and when the food finally came it was lukewarm. After the first 40 minutes of waiting we tried calling a waiter several times ( by pressing the button on the table) and waiving, but nobody even cared to come and tell us what is going on. We asked to speak to a manager twice, but again- no manager, nothing. The only good thing about the restaurant is its location. But food and service- just plain bad.

Stopped here for a drink and a lunch snack on our way to Belem Tower. It is beautifully situated on the waterfront with spectacular views across the river and towards the Ponte 25 de Abril bridge. The menu ranged from snacks to full meals, very reasonably priced. You can chill in a deck chair in the sun or sit in the shade. Loads of space when we were there. Entrance at the side where the huge round balls are, not on the gangway. Totally recommend.

Terrible service at an excellent location. I have been in many restaurants in Portugal and abroad, but I have never had such bad service as here, and it is not the first time. They frequently brought different food than ordered. For lunch, never waited less than one hour. Today, only three tables were occupied after lunch. We waited 20 minutes to get two Colas. Today, the waiter felt sorry for the waiting tine. Her argument was that the bartender was talk into someone else!!!!! Why do we still come back to this place?

One of the best places and service in town. We had such a great time, the starters are yummy and if you never tried a fantastic Portuguese meal you should definitely try it! There you can have the most delicious Duck and a perfect Tune. Wines are great, the view is breath-taking and the service is incredible high level,(Diogo and André are just awesome). The deserts are crazy... I wish I could give it 1000 stars. I am absolutely coming back!!!!

Tasty food, good price, and great location by the river Tagus and next to the iconic “Padrao dos Descrobimientos” monument.

We had a celebratory lunch there, 6 people nicely seated around a circular table. Very nice staff, professional and accomodating. The food was a combination of nice looking dishes (e.g. octopus) and substandard ones (e.g. entrecôte was tough and tasteless). Desserts were uninspired and average. In sum, today the food did not do justice to this beautiful location. Hope it gets better .....

Due to its proximity to the cultural hot spots in Belém, we weren’t sure it would be as good as it looks. We were wrong. The restaurant, and bar see a lot of footfall in the day, but the evening was relatively quiet. The staff were polite and professional. The food was very very good. Starters of sardines and spicy meat empada’s (excellent), followed by grouper and king prawns (beheaded by the chef), and closed off with a chocolate (virtual) soufflé, and Almond bebincue. Add some local red wine, and be presented with a 30% reduced bill as I’d booked by Tripadvisor, and it rounded off a really good meal. Location is great, eat outside, enjoy the view. Definitely worth visiting.

I was not expecting much from this resturant being in prime tourist location on the harbour and right next to the museums, but I was very pleasantly surprised. The food was elegantly presented, however for me it is all about the flavour and the food was light, fresh and packed with flavour of the main ingredient be it chicken or the octopus which was a standout. Now Octopus can have the consistency of a squash ball if overcooked, but their octopus was tender, succulent and full of fresh flavour. The waiters were helpful bi-lingual and very accommodating being able to explain the menu and ingredients, with a particulary good recommendation of white Alvarinho to complement the dishes, and the price was very very reasonable £12 for a bottle or £.5 a 200ml glass. It would be easy to dismiss this gem as a tourist trap, however yes the views and location are great however the quality and value of the food is even better, highly recommended.

excellent location by the river with sculptures in the extensive ponds. Good for a drink , however food was not good . Rubbery cod sawdust mixture of grated corn bread and beans was not appetising and an tough fillet steak and dessicated chips wasn't good. Wine was excellent and staff attentive.

Belém
Belém is the "capital of the Portuguese Discoveries" and a photographer's paradise. You can spend an entire day exploring this neighborhood: monuments (Jerónimos Monastery, Belém Tower, Monument to the Discoveries), museums (Coach Museum, Centro Cultural de Belém) and breathtaking views of the Tagus river will make your visit worth your time. Belém also offers a variety of restaurants and cafes, namely the famous - and delicious - "Pastéis de Belém" (typical Portuguese custard tarts; make sure you buy an extra box of those!). Easily accessible from Lisbon's historic center, Belém is a must-do, especially if you're spending more than one day visiting the Portuguese capital.
