great reputation.. adequate food

we were told that this was one of the best restaurants to go to. the place was empty when we arrived (but admittedly we arrived for dinner early European time). I ordered a steak, with sweet potato hash, and the steak was overcooked.. the waiter came and took my whole meal, while the rest of the... read more

Glory of the past: nice classic decoration. Lots of gold and mirrors. Shame of the present: food is simply not good, very disappointing. It seems that the fact that one can read about the place in any tourist guide spoiled the place and they don't care any more about the fundamentals: good food, attentive service. We found comfort in other... More

Me and my family had a very poor evening in Tavares Rico. The courses of the set dinner (150 dollar per person) were tiny and not tasty. My mother has an allergy, and so she asked for special adjustments, but the kitchen made very little effort to find suitable solutions for her. Instead she got mainly green herbs, and no... More

Unforgettable bad place! With so much beautiful glitter on the walls but a real fake at the plate!! Our dinner was disastrous. One example we asked for vegetarian food when we reserved half a day in advanced, but our vegetarian daughter was served 3 decorated dishes of small green leafs in a 5 dish set menu dinner !! It was... More

Lodged in one of the oldest buildings in Lisbon, at Casa Tavares, one dines in baroque splendor on the Rua Miseracordia. Said to have been in continuous operation since 1756, its fare today would hardly resemble that served in earlier years. Today it is on the front line of modern culinary techniques serving interesting combinations of food and wine. .... More

The oldest restaurant in Portugal and yet every inch of the gold laden restaurant was poised and perfect. It is ostentatious and a little intimidating for those I watched who wanted to walk in off the street but didn't dare. So unfortunately for this very special place the restaurant wasn't even half full on a Saturday night. Those potential customers... More

We we in Lisbon, came across this place and loved every minute of it. It might not have air con but to be honest, being one of the oldest buildings in Lisbon, surely we can forgive that. We had the seven course chef menu paired with the wine, each course was fab with the wine perfectly paired. If you want... More

My Portuguese wife and I dined at this beautiful restaurant the other week during a short stay in Lisbon. From the moment we entered the restaurant we were struck by the sheer elegance of the décor and in particular the ornate ceiling. At any rate I needed to tell the waiter at the outset that I was a vegetarian and... More

The food is only average in the French style, very pretty and reasonable size servings. This came across as a Restaurant resting on its laurels. The decor is beautiful but needs an air conditioner.
