The interior of the restaurant was quite beautiful. All in gold and mirrors reminiscent of a French castle. The night we went there was only 1 other couple. The food was above average with beautiful presentation but lacking a bit in how it was prepared. For example, the fish stew was nice but the octopus was overcooked and chewy. The... More

We did their tasting menu with wine pairings and the best you could say about both is insipid and uninspired. The wines -- mostly whites -- were non-descript and were not ones we would have purchased were we selecting our own wines. We both did a double-take when the sommelier/waiter informed us that the year of the wine really doesn't... More

We found this restaurant in our guide book, chatted to our helpful hotel receptionist, made a booking, and it did not disappoint. It is the oldest in Lisbon and the decor reflects this but not in a negative way. It's a lovely dinning room filled with mirrors, chandeliers and history. The waiter was very helpful and with my coeliac requirements... More

I visited Tavares last Monday. The place is marvellous, it has great history, as many places in Lisbon. The decoration is astonishing. The service was very good, as well as the food. I chose the 3-dish menu accompanied by the wine package (one per dish). Frankly, I think it is better to choose the starter, main dish, dessert and pick... More

We were a walk-in last night. Looking for something different, and found it. Very sumptuous decor, terrific service and very well presented and prepared menu choices. The suggested wine was a very good choice. Each course was explained as it was presented to table. A good, good place to fine dine.

Our 2nd visit to Tavares. 1st, 18 years ago, we were impressed with the qualiry of the food. Now again, we were very pleasantly surprised, the negative comments notwithstanding. We ate a la carte. Both the food and the wines were excellent. This is clearly not a place for tourists who want to grab a quick bite at a cheap... More

A group of 6 of us spent an evening here and were very disappointed. The food was acceptable but none of the courses were served at the right temperature. The bill was ridiculously pricey compared with the quality. The restaurant is still living off its past glory and unfortunately does not deserve the accolades it may have deserved in the... More

The restaurant is well located, in the popular central area. It is very old and traditional restaurant. The ambiance is opulent and luxurious. The service is classy and excellent. The food is delicious. It is a great place for a special occasion, and for special romantic date.

Glory of the past: nice classic decoration. Lots of gold and mirrors. Shame of the present: food is simply not good, very disappointing. It seems that the fact that one can read about the place in any tourist guide spoiled the place and they don't care any more about the fundamentals: good food, attentive service. We found comfort in other... More

Me and my family had a very poor evening in Tavares Rico. The courses of the set dinner (150 dollar per person) were tiny and not tasty. My mother has an allergy, and so she asked for special adjustments, but the kitchen made very little effort to find suitable solutions for her. Instead she got mainly green herbs, and no... More
