This place totally lives up to the hype.
Their Pastel de Nata are to die for. They are crispy... the custard is rich... and they have the perfect "burned" look to them.
And when you come from Denmark, it is total bargain to have two of these accompanied by a double espresso for 3,60€. Wouldn't even get you a single espresso in a fancy coffeeshop in Copenhagen.
Go there! And even if there is a queue lining up outside the store... it is worth the wait.

The best nata in Lisbon. They were better than the Belém version and my travel friend had been in Porto before and agrees these custard cups are the best. The bakers are always preparing more of the sweet so you can watch while you have your treat.
They even had decaf espresso!

Very good pastel de nata, I really appreciated it but not the service and I didn’t come back again.
We went in the night to buy some pastries to take away but the guy was very insistent to propose us something else to buy, to add more of them, or to try them with some different drinks.
More and more times, even if we said that we were fine.
Ok, you are doing your job but if I say NOT, don’t importunate people and leave them alone, please.

Their pastel de nata tasted slightly burnt and it was also lukewarm in temperature. It should not be a hit or miss experience with the reputation this place has. Their hot chocolate tasted like water. It was cool to see people making pastel de nata though. No place to sit, only stand. Only serves pastel de nata and some drinks.

I rate to write bad reviews, but they're necessary for people and the business itself.
Unfortunately, the whole experience was terrible. There is a queue, and the staff person asked the person behind me, and then myself, and that because I ordered. And the 'pastel de nata' is greasy, just horrible.
If you buy 'pastel de nata' in any supermarket, it will be better than this one.

AMAZING!
You absolutely must come here when you visit Lisbon, although they do have a few shops around the city.
My partner and I ended up coming here every single day during our visit. Sometimes in the morning, lunch or even late in the evening on the way back to our hotel after dinner. It was very very fairly priced and the pastel de nata’s were delicious, so fresh and you could see the chefs making them behind the counter.
I genuinely miss these now I’m home and I will definitely be returning if I ever visit Lisbon again.

The pasteis de nata are awesome and the staff is really friendly. Unfortunately the cappuccinos we had were extremely hot and not foamy at all. The milk was burnt. This could be easily avoided by teaching the staff how to use the machine properly. So be careful when having coffee there, otherwise you might not taste how good the pasteis are because you burnt your tongue.

I started every morning of my stay in Lisbon with pasteis de nata and an espresso from here after learning about it on my second day. Not only are the pasteis de nata truly delicious, but given their freshness, and the location of the bakery, they are affordable. I highly recommend the first time you visit to eat in and watch through the glass as the pasteis de nata go through the various stages of baking for an amazing and free cultural experience. Then, if you visit multiple times, ask for them to take away, and do the quick 5 minute walk up to São Pedro viewpoint. Another tip, whilst they’re delicious hot or cold, if you want the pasteis to be guaranteed warm, visit first thing in the morning at opening. However, well worth stopping by at any time of day for such a great treat.

Manteigaria is located on Rua do Loreto and it was the first place we stopped to eat Portugal's signature dessert Pastel de Nata. They have a long corridor where you can watch its making. Time to talk about Nata: the dough is good, the filling is delicious (€1.20 each). I can say it was one of the best I've ever eaten. We stopped by again at a different time and saw that they produce fresh products every hour of the day. As an accompany, you can try both espresso (€1) and Galão (€1.9 - coffee made from espresso and frothed milk).

I have never heard about "Manteigaria" before and I have already been to Lisbon quite a few times since 1973 ... During my last trip, my Portuguese friend told me to visit "Manteigaria" at its tiny shop at "Rua do Loreto", in Lisbon's Cidade Alta. And thanks God I did go! The "Pastéis de Nata" were just coming out of the oven, warm and smelling deliciously. No wonder people were queueing in front of the shop! Amazing! As"Manteigaria" is quite small and offers no table service, it is more like a place you buy the "Pastéis de Nata" to take home or eat somewhere else. And so I did, taking them to my nearby hotel! A night bite! Unmissable! Bon Appétit!

This factory for pasteis de nata was recommended to us by Jose, the guide we had in Sintra, Cabo da Roca & Cascais. We tried pasteis de nata in different places in Lisbon, but these ones made here we liked the most. The cream inside is smooth and less sweeter than in other places and the pastry is both fluffy and cruncy. They have an open kitchen and you can actually see how they make the pasteis de nata, while you wait in the queue to buy them or eat them there, freshly taken out of the ovens. A little cinamon on top offered the best pasteis de nata flavour we tasted in Lisbon.

Fantastic Pasteis de Nata. They make them fresh on site. Picked up some for take away and they were still amazing when got back to the apartment. They even give you a sachet with cinnamon so you can sprinkle at home. Pastry crispy and flaky and custard silky smooth and delicious. Top stuff! Service also very friendly.

I came to Lisbon prepared to sample as many pateis de nata as possible and Manteigaria is hands down the best. Yes, we went to Belem. And we went to a few other places too but Manteigaria is so much better than all of them. The pastry is so light and flaky and the abundance of rich velvety custard is like no other. Don't leave Lisbon without trying Manteigaria's pasteis de nata!

The “Pastéis de Nata” - tarts filled with egg custard. - are a fundamental part of the visit to Lisbon. If you haven’t had this delicacy during a trip to the capital of Portugal, then you cannot consider that you really have been there.
Although the Pastéis de Nata can be found in so many places in Lisbon, there are the ones that are special and better than others… qnd we found the special ones at Mantegaria. It’s considered by the locals the best place for the Pastéis de Nata.
The place is small and is always crowded, but the service is fast and good. I recommend that you have your Pastel de Nata topped with cinnamon, served with coffee or with liqueur.
You can also order the Pastéis to go, which I recommend as you will crave to eat them again (and again).
You can see the Pastéis de Nata being prepared as their kitchen is opened. They are hand crafted and it is a beautiful process.

This is a place not to be missed, the hype is real. We went back to this place multiple times during our stay in Lisbon because we couldn't get enough pastel de natas and coffee. Highly recommend this place as the pastel de natas are priced well and freshly made with delicious, high-quality coffee too.
