We went there for dinner. The place was full but the waiter immediately found us a table for two. The service was fast and friendly. We tasted the see bass with baby potatoes that was tasty and well cooked. Soup of the day was nice as well. We took the ‘cataplana’ with lobster for 1 person, it was a really big plate!! For me it was good but not perfect. You should give it a try thought. We asked a small decanter of sangria but they brought us the big one even though I told the waiter 3 times that we wanted the small one. Anyway we had good time.

We spent 3.5 days in Lisbon and this was by far the best meal we had. Walked in without a reservation and were lucky to be seated within 5 minutes in spite of the place being full.
We had mushrooms and mussels for appetizers, grilled octopus and steak for mains and finished with their 'worst cake ever' and meringue. Everything was delicious and well priced. With a glass of wine and a soft drink the bill came in at 66 EURO.
Service was great and they were more than happy to let me try their house wines before settling on one.
We still talk about their chocolate cake and would happily fly back for a slice!

Maria Catita is a busy, happy place with attentive waiters and good food. No better way to start your exploration of Lisboa and Alfama. Drop in early to make a reservation then explore the area knowing that a fun and enjoyable dining experience is waiting for you. Reasonably priced $$ with a good variety of dishes to choose from.

One of the receptionists at our hotel recommended this restaurant along with a couple of others, and my wife and I are indebted to him. We had a great meal which included a bottle of wine for around 50 Euros. My wife has Sea Bass and I tried the Portugese steak and both were lovely. The staff were great the atmosphere friendly and the place was full with in 30 minutes of us sitting down.

This was our second visit and yet again, not disappointed. The restaurant was very busy but we got asked if we could wait 5 minutes. The table was relaid in 5 minutes, we both had the cod fillet which was superb but rather on the large side for myself but my husband ate all his. If you do find yourself in Lisbon, this restarantula is a must.

We were recommended this restaurant by friends who had visited Lisbon and booked for the Saturday evening.
I can't praise this place highly enough, from the delicious white port aperitifs through to the 'worst chocolate cake in Lisbon' the meal was gorgeous and the staff super friendly and welcoming. Living in London we are always reticent when we let the waiter recommend a wine, which turns out to be delicious, fully expecting a hefty bill. 18 euro!! What an absolute bargain.
The food was so nice, the Octopus delicious and tender and the Chocolate dessert was a winner.

Nothing to write home about this dining experience. Although the service was highly attentive and hospitable, the food was bland — most notably the daily specials! My husband ordered the seared tuna. It was dry, overcooked (despite ordering medium rare), and bland. I order the daily special, Cod with basil and roasted potatoes. I expected a refreshing and tasty combination of flavors — after all, it was fish marinated in basil. What I was served was a sad, overcooked, insipid Cod with so many bones ! I had never been served Cod with so many bones... because I usually get a Cod fillet. The piece of Cod I got was definitely not fillet or the best part of the Cod, I must say. Dinner turned into a mission, mincing every piece of the fish to avoid choking on a large bone. Not fun. Not tasty. The daily special included dessert: something that resembled a parfait, made with a layer of galletas Marias (plain, vanilla crackers), a layer of condensed milk, a layer of Cocoa Kirstie’s. Yep, you read that right. Chocolate cereal sprinkled on top of layers of other cheap ingredients. Homemade dessert and not in a good way. The highlight of that dinner was the glass of vinho verde I ordered to toast to our first night in Lisboa. Needless to say, dinner was underwhelming. Not surprisingly, after a few days in Lisbon, we realized the Augusta Arch / Praca do Comercio area is a tourist trap. I must also point out my expectations of Maria Catita were high, considering the great reviews that Maria Catita has received on TA. After traveling Portugal for a couple of weeks and following TA highly rated restaurants, I came to the conclusion that, unfortunately, TA has been flooded by paid or fake reviews. I have become leery of posts made by TA accounts with only 1 or a couple of previews reviews.

Dear Storyteller, I don't think this review refers to our restaurant, because we don't serve any of the dishes or desserts you mention in your review. Besides, we are not in Rua Augusta, but 4 blocks away. We don't have boiled codfish on our menu, but confited in olive oil and always made with the best part of the loin, and no basil. Our tuna also has no vinaigrette, but onions and port wine. Besides this we don't have any composed menu with dessert besides we don't know which dessert you are talking about... Dear friend, there must definitely be some kind of mistake in the restaurant you evaluated, because it certainly wasn't ours.

We were searching for a place to eat typical Portuguese food and we found it…
The prices are more than reasonable and the service is just like it should be. Our waiter, Rui, made us feel at home.
Excellent food and the best service!

About this place I can tell the people make it. We have amazing stuff and best service. We arrived at 5 min before siesta break and was serviced as first class clients. Amazing cuisine. Seafood with rice is one of the best. This is exactly seefood and rice not something mixed together. Lobsters/langustine/tiger shrimps the best taste. Second our visit we was with friends and start to order without menu. We ordered oysters and only then we knew that they doesn’t have them in menu and served specially for us from another restaurant. This is our must have place to visit in Lisbon.

We were recommended this restaurant by our hotel, it is lovely but worth noting it is predominantly fish (we didn't know that). I loved the tuna steak and my husband had the sirlion steak (not a fish lover), it was good however it comes with only chips (not fries, crisps) and the sauce, no vegetables which was a shame and there wasn't an option to ask for them. Nonetheless, it was a lovely restaurant, very very busy so recommend making a booking (we did) as there were people queuing for an over an hour for a table. The wine recommended with the meal was beautiful.

Whilst our meal was delicious ,a local seafood casserole for 4 people ,the wine at 90 euros cost as much as the rest of the meal !!! We asked for a bottle of red wine as waiter did not offer a drinks menu .
We never thought for a restaurant where we were sitting in the road the wine which We didn’t select would be this expensive without being told the price in advance or showing us a menu.
They were apologetic when we pointed this out but it was a bit late as it left us with a sour taste rather than a pleasant Dining memory. We should not have been placed in this position.

Me and my boyfriend were wanting to visit Maria Catita for dinner on a Friday night, it was fully booked and the wait was up to 40 minutes. We ended up going elsewhere because it was getting late - past 9:30pm and we were hungry.
We went here for lunch today and managed to get a table before it became very busy around 1pm. The atmosphere and the service was good.
Me and my boyfriend had the 4 course set meal which for €69 for the both of us. The main mixed Fish and Rice dish was good but it could of been better seasoned in my opinion. If I was to revisit I would order a different menu option.

We have lived in Lisbon for a little over a year now and have tried many restaurants here. By far, Maria Catita is the restaurant that we have frequented most. The food is always freshly prepared and tastes like a home-cooked meal. The service is welcoming and friendly, and Mauro, one of our favorite waiters, always makes us feel at home when we're there. We look forward to trying out the daily specials which change regularly and are a fantastic value. We will be back soon!

This is the number 1 restaurant gourmet food in Lisbon, Portugal. It was a wonderful experience for me and my family. The restaurant is always full, so we recommend you call them to make an appointment so they can accommodate you. The flavor and presentation was amazing. All the staff were very professional and kind. Thank you so much to Joao, ZE and Mauro for making our New Years dinner a wonderful experience. We came from Miami but I will definitely visit this place again when we go back to Portugal.

We have just finished our second divine meal at Maria Catita’s. Freshly cooked to order, so if you’re late they may have run out. Don’t waste your money at a tourist restaurant, come here for quality steak and seafood- even the house wine is delicious! Their care and attention is superlative, even when busy or waiting to close you are not made to rush. As a customer the experience here is fabulous: 5 star in a casual environment.

Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!
