Loved the atmosphere, lived the service and loved a lot the food. From first course (we had soup) to main (we had octopus and rice with seafood) and dessert and wine - all was GREAT. I also loved the beer glasses. And all for a...reasonable price and with a lovely service.More

We were really looking forward to dining at O Chiado based on the reviews I read on TA in advance but to be frank I felt it was somewhere between poor and average, certainly no higher. The restaurant is very, very small with maybe 20-25...covers at the most. I counted 22. The restaurant was full almost when we entered at 8pm and the place was absolutely stifling due primarily to the kitchen being immediately behind the seating area and with no isolation between the two and a large extract duct passing from the kitchen through part of the seating area so all the heat gets transferred as it is not insulated. The food for me was average and nothing outstanding that you could not get in another hundred restaurants in the area, admittedly it was not expensive but that is not my point I expected much better for somewhere so highly rated. The other thing I found annoying was there were two waiters, one who dealt with the food and the other who was dealing with wine. The wine waiter would not even take a drinks order though ! and left it to the food waiter. I also found it a little annoying that the WW had to explain every single wine he had, and it was not an extensive wine list, he even questioned why I would want to drink Vinho Verde (he convinced me not to, so much for the Customer always being right). He was intent on telling you where the wine was from, how many barrels were made, the year, the vineyard etc. etc. which is fine for higher end restaurants but totally unnecessary for somewhere like this. I had Bachlau for main course, which was very average. My wife had the squid which she said was absolutely tasteless. The wine I was served was the smallest quantity I have ever seen and I doubt it was 125ml (the minimum measure) which would make the bottle price around Euro 38 eye-watering really.More
