My partner and I ate at a couple of highly recommended seafood restaurants in Lisbon.
Frade dos Mares was very good and a bit pricey. The octopus was delicious.
Ramiro was very pricey with skimpy servings. Big disappointment.
Zapata ticked all our boxes. The portions...are generous, the restaurant is very unpretentious, the prices are reasonable, and the food is delicious.
Two very full glasses of tasty wine came to 2.80Euro a glass. Where are you going to find that kind of deal?
I recommend all the dishes we ordered. Here's what we ate:
*Grilled cod (not salty and a very generous portion). Look out for the bones. While cod is not our favorite fish, we felt that it was essential to try it while in a country with a cod obsession. It was lightly seasoned and not overcooked. Still not our favorite fish.
*Grilled octopus. You can get a half portion or whole. Scrumptious.
*Tiger prawn sold by weight. We had one. Excellent.
*Calamari Perfectly prepared.
If you don't want the bread and butter, say so up front so you won't be charged for it.
The entire bill came to 57.42. including the wine and a 1/2 liter of bottled water. The bill at Ramiro was twice as much and I left hungry.
The cod and the octopus come with roast potatoes and a bit of salad. We didn't want potatoes with the calamari so they gave us a fresh salad on the side.
We showed up with no reservation and were seated right away with no argument. I'm glad the place hasn't been "discovered" by a foreign celebrity with a tv show.
If this wasn't our last night in Madrid. we'd definitely return.
It was an easy walk to the metro.More
