My friends and I were vacationing in Portugal and we took the hop on-hop off bus to Belem. It was a very hot day and my friend was perishing with the heat so we decided to take shelter and have a quick lunch. We found...Vela Latina and were seated immediately and given menus. We sat inside but were still outside somewhat and there was a nice cool breeze coming in off the water. While perusing the menu, we were given a basket of breads with different spreads which were delicious. I decided on getting the octopus with turnip greens. Our food came in a short period of time and my octopus was tender and not at all rubbery. It is reasonably priced and the waitperson was pleasant and accommodating. I would recommend and return.More

The reviews here aren’t the best, however I think it depends, what side you have (staff, food, location). Obviously the food is expensive but that’s expected in restaurants like this, the food was decent but delicious, we had a very kind waiter and the staff...distribution is great, there’s always someone to help. The atmosphere is amazing with nature all around, and surreal architecture. Overall the design here is phenomenal. The music choice fits very well with the vibe. It’s a very good from me, recommend to mostly couples and business.More

This is a fantastic, family-run place. I think a lot of people here may not be very awake to the cultural context. In Portuguese, people are very direct - which usually does not translate so well into English. My family and I have been going...to this restaurant for over 20 years and have always had a great time. For a really great experience, make sure you get the hake fillets (filete de pescada), the grilled steak or the grilled fresh catch of the day. For desserts, I am very partial to the apple pie!More

We didn't actually eat here due to the rudeness of the staff. As there was no menu outside, we went into the restaurant to look at the menu. No staff were around, but we spotted the menus on the bar. We went to have a...look at the menu, when a waitress approached us, asking us what we were doing. I said we wanted to look at the menu. She spoke to me exceptionally rudely and gave me such a dirty look, whilst telling me that we could look at the menu, but only by the door. We looked at the menu and weren't impressed enough by the food to decide to spend our money somewhere that would treat us so disrespectfully. I understand that this bad attitude may have been covid related, but do like other restaurants, put someone on the door if you don't want anyone to come in without checking their status. I advise this restaurant to put a menu outside and train your staff to be polite and respectful.More

This is a well located restaurant above the Belem coastal area. There are very good food options, for both fish and meat, and a great cava. The service is fast and warm. Make sure that you have a reservation in busy days and taste the...lobster risotto and the tagliatelle with king crabMore

Really good food and service in a great setting. Nice wine selection. Obviously very popular place to have dinner with tourists and locals, right by a marina.

We've had a a 5 people birthday celebration and the experience was truly wonderful! From the modern - chick interior design, which includes a lot of green areas to the delicious food options, this restaurant provided an excellent customer service experience! Recommend to all!

The price did not justify the quality of the food. The lobster risotto was chewy and bland. We did not feel welcomed when we arrived and were rushed throughout our dinner. The interior and location was beautiful but a real shame about the food and...service.More

You go there and they say kitchen doesn't work. Well it is a restaurant? What the... Do you do without a kitchen. They didn't offer anything else or ask us to sit or apologize. Nothing.just a restaurant where a kitchen doesn't work.

Again, the experienced wait staff sets the good vibe. One enters and can sense the tradition even though they recently remodeled. The food is excellent! I prefer to go with the daily specials. It's rare to find a domestic Pinot Noir but they have it,...chilled. Sit outside, enjoy the bay view. Sit inside, enjoy the spirit of local transactions. This joint is a winner.More

My girlfriend and I were disappointed with this restaurant. It was our first time to Belém and we found Vela Latina has good reviews so we came in. The atmosphere in the hotel was lovely, as was the wine waiter. The problem was that our...main waiter who was also at front of house, had no understanding of what gluten free meant. I even said the Portuguese translation when ordering and he made us seem like everything was gluten free, yet when the food came it clearly wasn’t (was tempura hake). Then the manager came over and started listing all the ingredients which went into making the hake (including wheat flour). In a restaurant of €30 per dish, I shouldn’t have to be explaining what gluten free means to a restaurant manager. A shame as we got excited when we walked in at the lovely menu. Please learn about allergens like we have seen in every other restaurant.More

I had not been to Vela Latina for many years and having gone there recently, I only regret ......my long absence. Very rare in Portugal (not to mention Spain or France), there is a proper bar to wait for your table. And the food is...just terrific with a very professional service. Everything is just excellentMore

Excellent restaurant. Everything is fine – the location, the decoration, the service and the food. The only thing which is not probably so good are the prices. Enjoy!

We went to Vela Latina to have lunch. The service is polite and the room very nice. Regarding the food, to start we asked foei gras with apple and it was excellent. For main i had the classic filetes de pescada with arroz de alcachofras-the...rice was very weak with no flavor - and ventresca very good. For dessert, apple pie that was nice.More
