Booked here for dinner as part of a hen party (16 people total). Very professional booking via email. Attentive and clear when it came to gluten-free options and vegetarian choices and had a number of set menu options with accompanying wines at quite good value. A small touch but they also printed out "*Name of the Bride*'s Hen" at the top of the menus, which was appreciated. Food was very tasty local inspired cuisine. Would definitely suit a group with a reasonably chilled-out vibe who want a nice meal and the ability to have a good chat!

I wasn't expecting it to be the best food in the world but I also wasn't expecting it to be so banal, considering the chef who created the concept. The food is good but nothing memorable. I even think it's quite common for restaurants you see in Portugal. The staff were friendly but a little amateur when it came to service. The space is normal but quite small. We paid €100 for two people and they even had a suggested tip of €8 on the receipt (something I had never seen in restaurants in Portugal, including those with Michelin stars). Nice but not worth €55 per person. Good for foreigners who don't know anything about our cuisine or know the prices charged in our country. Good place but I won't return to it, as it is too expensive for the service it offers.

First-class cuisine with many Portuguese dishes (including fish and meat) and equally good vegetarian dishes! The prices are very fair and the portions are good - for a main course you pay on average €15.00-€20.00. The staff are very friendly but after ordering the first drinks we were not asked again if we wanted something to drink - a shame, that shouldn't happen in a place like this. But the staff were very friendly - food: great! (Please note: changing menu)

When we book a table at a restaurant with such a renowned name, we create high expectations. In fact, we were disappointed.
Firstly, they confused our reservation and sat another couple at our table. We ended up staying in a corner of the room, next to the staff table, where the cutlery, plates and glasses were. It was clearly a passing area and we were practically glued to the couple next door.
Secondly, at 9:15 pm, on Valentine's Day, one of the restaurant's most requested dishes, the tuna tartare with Asian flavors, was no longer available. It was one of the dishes we most wanted to try, as it was one of the most coveted, and we were disappointed that they had not ensured the minimums on a special day, with a large (and expected) turnout and at such an early hour.
Thirdly, the staff were practically all young interns and barely knew the name of the dishes they were serving. Whenever we asked any type of basic information, they didn't know how to answer, they didn't show any interest in answering, or they had to go and call the room manager.
Fourthly, the portions are not well served and we consider the dishes to be excessively expensive for what they are. We asked for the cover charge; the classic ceviche; the duck and grape marinade; the croquettes with truffled mustard and the hazelnut jam. Of all, only the last two impressed.
Furthermore, the wines are also very expensive. We ordered the house and found it reasonable.
We don't recommend it and wouldn't go back.

My wife and I just left the restaurant. We had very high expectations, due to its fame and recommendations from friends, but the service left much to be desired. The receptionist was very attentive, polite and helpful. But the waiter at the table didn't. On the contrary, he was discourteous with a question about the dish, becoming mocking and rude. I think the fact that the vast majority of customers are foreigners and don't speak Portuguese has something to do with what happened. The food was good, but not excellent. We ate the Cod and the mushroom risotto. For a traditional Portuguese dish, the cod needs to improve a lot. The chocolate cake was the highlight. When checking out, we complained about a crumpled paper napkin (the fabric ones only arrived later), which had not been collected from the table on several occasions. I also asked to remove the bread service that they charged "per person", against the market, from the bill, and I had to insist to be served. Even the portion of the bread service was very small, barely enough for one person. Finally, the attendant insisted on returning the change that we said was supposed to be kept, in a clear affront. Mr. José Alvillez forgive me, but it's not enough to cook well to stay at the top. You have to delight the customer. But these customers here will never come back.

We chose this restaurant to go to for dinner since its owner is a chef with some recognition in Lisbon/Portugal.
We found their menu and prices interesting and tried several starters.
The starters are practically tapas.
Ridiculous quantity and presentation.
The flavor was not bad, but exaggeratedly small.
We ask:
Tuna tartar with Asian spices: good tuna but no trace of the spices.
Pickled duck with grapes: two grapes on the plate
Cheese with honey and fruit: served in a small plate that simulated a paella pan.
Eggplant stuffed with hummus: half an eggplant.
Bottle of wine (€19) and dessert: €80.
A detail that has not happened to us in Portugal or of course in Spain, is when the bill comes, the waiter already marked on his data phone an amount higher than the order by €7. We asked the reason and it was the tip suggestion. We paid it, but it is a very ugly gesture to try to sneak in that tip without first informing the customer.
The taste was not bad, but it is better to pay more and have dinner than to pay €80 and look for a nearby pizzeria

In my recent visit to Cantinho do Avillez in Lisbon, I couldn't help but feel let down by the overall experience. The service, in particular, left much to be desired, with waitstaff displaying zero receptiveness and limited courtesy.
Moving on to the food, we began with a truffle butter appetizer, which was the highlight of the meal. However, when it came to the main courses, the results were mixed. The risotto with scallops was enjoyable, offering a generous portion. The pork dish was decent and appropriately portioned. Unfortunately, the codfish dish, while accompanied by decent sides, lacked flavor and quantity.
Considering the price point, with an average expenditure of 60 euros, I couldn't help but question if it was worth it. To make matters worse, the sweltering heat didn't enhance the dining experience, and the underwhelming food failed to compensate for the subpar service.
Regarding wait times, despite having a reservation, the dishes took an average of 10 minutes to arrive, and beverages were even more delayed, with an average wait time of 20 minutes. This lag in service was particularly frustrating, especially when we ordered a beer and water, which took over 20 minutes to be served.
Overall, my visit to Cantinho do Avillez was far from satisfying, marred by unimpressive service, uninspiring dishes, and lengthy wait times. It's safe to say that I won't be returning anytime soon.

We ordered two starters (goat cheese and croquettes) which were both great. For the main dish I chose the Alentejano Pork and my wife the Bacalhau.
The meat was very tasty and of good quality. It came accompanied by farofa, black beans and French fries. The farofa and beans were good but nothing extraordinary. The potatoes were a huge disappointment. I find it completely unacceptable and disrespectful to the place that it is, to serve frozen French fries from a packet.
The cod was tasty but the quantity was tiny. It was loaded with vegetables to make it seem like a lot. In fact, it had a lot more vegetables than cod.
For dessert we opted for the Passion Fruit and Lime Mousse with Papaya. It was tasty but too liquidy.
For drinks, we opted for a 2021 Quinta dos Murças Minas Red. Completely inflated price. Triple the PVP.
Overall we can say that the food is tasty but not worth the asking price.

Last year, on our very first Lisbon stay, we liked the Cantinho do Avillez Chiado. After two dinners in May 2023 and best memories of it, we went to Cantinho Chiado again this year. The restaurant was very well attended and they already wanted to send us on, because we had not reserved (at Bairro do Avillez something was still free!). When a waitress who still knew us from last year saw us, we were allowed to sit down at a newly laid table after a short wait. We were very happy about it and could enjoy the delicious cuisine of Cantinho for a third time! The Bife à Cantinho with homemade chips - served in a pan with presunto, was exactly as remembered and with the great sauce just a poem. Avela a delicious hazelnut dessert (ice cream and croquette) with matching dessert wine should definitely not be missing!!! The Tartaro de Atum com sabores asiaticos (a tuna tartare), Cameroes salteados com couve pac - choy alho e kimchi, Porco Alentejano (a pork steak with black beans) and also the chocolate cake do Cantinho with liquid core we can also highly recommend! There are some of the same dishes on the menu as at Cantinho Cascais, with equally good products and just as careful preparation, but with small, individual differences. In addition to the wine list with a good and rich selection of Portuguese plants, there is also a great cocktail list (the Premio Basil is very delicious...)! Due to the high frequency of guests, the Cantinho is not a quiet place for a romantic dinner, but rather very lively with nice bistro charm and a certain volume. Nevertheless, the competent service has been very attentive and friendly to us and thus created a pleasant feel-good atmosphere. You can enjoy regional and traditional food in a very good quality here...

Really disappointing experience given the great reviews. The food was totally mediocre. While I appreciate that they had two healthy vegetarian options, the one I got (quinoa salad) was a tasteless mix of quinoa and a bunch of vegetables - I could have made it at home. The cocktails were far too sweet, but nobody asked us if we wanted another when we were done with them, or refilled our water. Would not recommend.

Friendly local, lovely staff. Very nice food. Perfect for couples dinner. It's not a noisy family place. Nice and friendly service in a quiet and serene environment away from the crowds. We had an Indian and a Brazilian dish accompanied by rice brought in copper pots separately. Exquisite both. Rosé wine in the bottle but "of the house" good. Intimate environment with tables and chairs on one side and comfortable sofas with cushions on the other. Nice surprise in an anonymous alley.

Read about Jose Avillez and managed to make a reservation at this outlet at the last minute. Food was decent albeit unmemorable in our opinion for a Michelin award-winning chef. Perhaps like many other reknown chefs with various restaurants, it would have been better to try the "signature" award-winning Belcanto instead.

I went here w family a few nights ago. After being seated, we waited almost 25minutes for someone to come by to ask for our drink/food orders(the restaurant was only half-full). The waiter's interaction with our table was minimal at best. The drinks (martini and negroni) were mediocre. We had mixed reviews on the food. Both the steak and Flaked Cod were solid, however the pork neck was just "ok." The most disappointing part of the experience for us was the staff, who came across as indifferent, which was completely the opposite of the rest of our dining experiences in Portugal. Throughout our entire trip to Portugal, this was the only dining experience that we did not really enjoy.

We ordered Nisa's Cheese as a starter, very tasty, a good amount to share between two people. The main thing was the Cod, which was very good. The service was excellent, we arrived around 1 pm, and the room was still quite empty. Dessert, Avelã3, tasty. In the end, we found a good restaurant, but expensive for what it offers. Detail: throughout lunch, there were mosquitoes flying around; the door to the bathroom ("bathroom"), unisex, had no lock: it simply remained open and someone had to be asked to "supervise" it and not allow others to enter (unacceptable for a restaurant of this size...).

We managed to secure a table for an early dinner at 6:30 p.m. on the same day (a Saturday). We loved the innovative ways traditional Portuguese dishes were presented. The staff was also very friendly and helpful. For example, the guests at the next table liked the look of the entrees we were having and the waiter suggested that they could share both of them between the two of them. Good wine recommendations, too!

Chiado & Carmo
The traditionally trendy "Chiado" (literally, "squeak", the nickname of a 16th century poet) offers plenty of cafes, restaurants and bars where you can stop for a cafe or cocktail, after exploring its streets, shops, art galleries, theaters, museums and viewpoints. It's also the home to the statue of the famous statue of portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa, having is usual espresso at "A Brasileira" as he used to. You can also enjoy breathtaking views of Lisbon from the Elevador de Santa Justa or the Carmo Convent, for example. A commercial neighborhood at its core, especially for its Garrett and Carmo streets, Chiado is to this day a mandatory visit in Lisbon.
