We called in here in August 2013. Having flown into Lisbon earlier that morning, we were keen to try some local fare, and get back out into the sunshine. We stood at the bar, very Euro, and enjoyed a Bifana and beer each. Both were placed in front of us within minutes and very tasty, the bread roll soaking up... More

We went there at night. We orderded a fish 'Porto', vegetables and salad. The fish was dry and tough and the vegetables were overcooked and not salted at all. And all this for 20€, that is terrible!!!

Always very good traditional food. Had most satisfying lunches and dinners there! Conveniently situates in the centre in fron of the Rossio station.

When passing by at night I thought this would be a nice - although maybe not the most appropriate - place to have breakfast. So the next day I went there and ordered a croissant, coffee and orange juice. I had to pay 6,80 euros - 3,20 just for the orange juice! Given the fact that oranges grow in Portugal... More

Had my best meal in Lisbon here. Clams coked in garlic and coriander, Galician style octupus and chocos. Type of squid. All washed down with vinho verde (a pressao). Absolutely wonderful food. The atmosphere was great, full of tourist a locals alike. It is very busy all day long. Great central location next to Rossio train station.

Awesome, traditional cafe right opposite Rossio station. Stand at the bar and order a small beer and the Bifana, a Portuguese hot pork sandwich. Perfection and great value . Highly recommended

The polip rice was tender but the grilled squid was overburnt therefore chewy and bitter. Average price range - I would not return...

this is a very central restaurant, so it is very easy to reach but it is also located in very turistic area. Do not be stupid and avoid dishes for turists, You must get what they cook for portugese people. Bifanas is delicius pork sandwich and it is very cheap All the small deep fried pastry are simply delicious.

I sought Beira Gare out just for the Bifana, and I was NOT disappointed. My boyfriend is Portuguese and has had his fair share of Bifanas, and he too thought this one was spot on. We'll definitely be returning. The plain Bifana was a steal at only €2.30. We also tried the Bifana with bacon and cheese, and while good,... More

It's a good restaurant, but you can find better places to eat, less crowded and for the same price. The food is good, but it's a tiny place, so the tables are really close together.

Staying in Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores

Neighborhood Profile
Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!
