We really wanted to go to this wine bar as it was recommended to us. We showed up at 945 and we were immediately told that the place closed at 10. Later, when we walked by over an hour later, they were still serving patrons at that time. It was rude for them not to serve us initially.

We went here to have a glass of wine without knowing anything about the place. What we got was an introduction to Portuguese wine. The guy who owns the place, let us taste three different wines and choose a glass from them. He could also tell us about Portuguese wine and could answer any question we had about wines. We... More

My husband and I dropped in for what we thought would be a quick glass of wine and a share plate and ended up leaving four hours later! The service was fantastic with great knowledge about all the wines and excellent suggestions. We tried green wine as well as a excellent reds. The cheese and Portuguese ham plate was delicious... not far from the entrance to the Castle in a busy street, we nevertheless were greeted warmly coming down from the castle at peak lunch time. our party of six was not problem and extra space made for us, with tables pulled together, even if they half blocked the entrance. three reds and three whites were presented, once we had... TL;DR A grand place for palate pleasers staffed with angels. The people who worked in the bar when we went were supremely friendly and welcoming. They brought us a range of wines they knew plenty about so we can make an informed decision. We also had some bread and olives, as well as some port which were all fantastic.

This is little place is a gem. It's the kind of place that reminds you of the superiority of Portuguese produce from the land and makes you fall in love with them again and again. The owner, Nuno, is an wonderful host and highly knowledgeable about his wines. Definitely will be back next time!

we stopped in the afternoon after the visit of the castle, we asked for two glasses of Porto wine, the price of 6 euros it's a little high but it worths it. The problem is that the owner wanted to show his competence and remark our ignorance about the Porto wine. And immediately after talked with other clients saying "you... More

I first visited this wine bar in 2012 and had such a marvelous experience that I had to bring my husband and friends during our latest trip. This is the best wine bar experience I've ever had. Diogo was our server, and he was outstanding in every way. He asked us what kinds of wines and ports we usually drink,... More

We found this place while wandering back to our airbnb near St. George's castle. We'd just done dinner and Fado music, and this location was a perfect night cap (although the menu could have provided dinner on its own). The host was very knowledgeable about the wines and regions of Portugal and helped us try bottles we would never have... More

We found this place having had a poor meal up the road and were delighted with wine, food and the service. Its a small place but the range of wines is incredible and the staff very helpful with choices. We also had a plate of ham and one of cheese to see us through the night and they were fantastic.... Staying in Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria

Neighborhood Profile
Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria
Explore narrow streets and alleyways, small cafes and, of course, the internationally acclaimed Fado music. The earth-shattering Great Earthquake of 1755 destroyed most of the city but the contiguous neighborhoods of Mouraria, Castelo and Alfama remained standing to this day. These neighborhoods represent Lisbon at its historical best. The cool breeze of the Tagus river will take you up the hills to the sound of Fado, where you'll discover the best "tascas," eat delicious fresh fish and drink great wines. Discover hidden viewpoints and ancient traces of other civilizational ruins in the heart of the Portuguese capital. These are centuries-old neighborhoods that will welcome you to the very best of old Lisbon culture.
