We celebrated New Year's Eve here and it was a great way to start the New Year! Ana Marina and Duarte make you feel like you are in their home, they take care of everything, with serving traditional dishes then playing, singing and explaining "Fado" as they entertain you! So intimate, only seats 24 so you must book! A great experience... More

If you like to listen to fado, then you should come. It is a bit touristy, but you will enjoy it neverthless. We did.

There are many Fado dinner shows offered in the area but this is by far the best all around. A family owned restaurant that only seats 24 - It is absolutely perfect. We felt like we were in their living room. The family greets, cooks, serves and the entertains you.

I heard a lot of good things about this place and I really wanted to go with my family there in my birthday. I wrote them to ask a reservation and they asked me very fast that they are already full booked, but I can try to go there around 8:15 pm, if somebody cancel the reservation. We want there... More

Have you noticed that of all the horrible things that we have on our page, none of them refer to bad quality of food, or that they have had a bad experience of Fado, or that they have been badly treated? Have you noticed, that almost all the horrible, are posted here, by ill-formed people and misunderstandings? Or because they... More

Everything in Lisbon related to "Fado" is touristy. This place, however, is family run and gives "beginners" a great introduction to the world of fado. You have to book in advance here - otherwise you have no chance of getting a table. There is basically one menu which includes starters, main dish and dessert, plus a litre of house wine... More

If you are looking for a real Portuguese food and Fado experience, this is the place to be. There is no real menu, you can choose between fish or meat. We choose to eat fish and that was really delicious. When everybody has finished their desert and coffee, the Fado starts. Ana Marina and Duarte where singing and between songs... More

Just wanted to thank Ana Marina and Duarte for the wonderful experience we had at SR Fado. All the food is delicious and homemade by this lovely couple. The products are from the countryside where they live. The service (also done by Duarte and Marina) is spectacular. They are true professionals. And finally, the fado is heartfelt, honest and emotional.... More

We had a very nice evening! The food was copious and tasty, Duarte was a lovely host, and their daughter has an amazing voice. We arrived around 8:15 and the music started two hours later once everyone had finished their meal and coffee. It was a great introduction to Fado for us, and the owners' explanations were quite useful as... More

This small restaurant is the place to go to if you want to eat tasty and typical Portuguese cuisine and enjoy an evening of Fado music performed by excellent singers and musicians. Make reservations in advance because it fits only 25 diners. מסעדה זו היא המקום לסעוד בה אם מעוניינים באוכל פורטוגזי טיפוסי וטעים ולהנות מערב שירה ונגינת פאדו. רצוי... More

On off the least pretentious of Lisbon's Fado restaurants is also one of its finest. Hosts Duarte Santos and Ana Marina treat guests as family and the homely ambiance is warming and inviting. The homemade gastronomy is noted for its textures and flavours and generous portions, with the seafood cataplana (stew) a much-lauded feast. The menu is limited, but here it's all about the quality of the food. As for the entertainment, this is local fado at its most authentic -- the singers and musicians have known each other for years, and the performance is heartfelt and genuine. Quite often, diners are invited to join in which makes the evening truly memorable.

Staying in Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria

Neighborhood Profile
Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria
Explore narrow streets and alleyways, small cafes and, of course, the internationally acclaimed Fado music. The earth-shattering Great Earthquake of 1755 destroyed most of the city but the contiguous neighborhoods of Mouraria, Castelo and Alfama remained standing to this day. These neighborhoods represent Lisbon at its historical best. The cool breeze of the Tagus river will take you up the hills to the sound of Fado, where you'll discover the best "tascas," eat delicious fresh fish and drink great wines. Discover hidden viewpoints and ancient traces of other civilizational ruins in the heart of the Portuguese capital. These are centuries-old neighborhoods that will welcome you to the very best of old Lisbon culture.
