This was my second visit to Club de Fado. There is something quite magical about seeing such high quality music in its natural environment. The staff are friendly and enthusiastic. It is expensive, and despite the separate charge for Fado you have to figure that the high food prices are what you have to pay for an excellent experience. I've... More

I was traveling solo and just showed up at 10pm on a friday night. Good luck getting in, right? Well, the doorman received me with a smile and conversation. After the conversation, he walked me into the place(once the show took a break) and fit me in at the back. Immediately, I was addressed by waiters for drink and food... More

This restaurant charge you an arm and a leg. there is lots of extra charges therefore do not feel bad about not ordering any food. Go there after you have dinner if possible. The food is disgusting, met someone who say they rather have diarrhoea than to eat there ever again.

Great music, singing and charming old place. The food was okay and it takes some time to get served between the performance. Howevere, if you want to hear some great fado, it is the place to go to. The staff were nice and friendly. The music was worh every penny.

Clube de Fado is one of the most well-known Fado Restaurants in Lisbon (at least amongst tourists). You can start dinner as early as 7.30pm, but the first Fado performance doesn't start before 9.15pm. So it's o.k. to start dinner a bit later. You don't pay an entrance fee for the music, but you pay a moderate fee for the... More

This restaurant was recommended by our hotel staff admittedly not their first choice either. The fado performance was good but unfortunately the food was very disappointing especially as prices are not cheap. My main was a beef & pork kebab dish which was very salty and the fries were decidedly soggy & cold. The fado is intermittent having arrived at... More

The setting of the restaurant is designed so well that everyone are able to see the show which was romantic and chilly. We waited for quite some time to be served because when the singer performs, the waitors are not moving. The food was tasty but a bit expensive.Besides that everything was perfect, transmitting the nostalgic atmosphere!

Good quality musicians and professional (and occasionally officious) service in an attractive setting in Alfama. From the menu prices you assume you are being charged top dollar for the live music, but i) you get a satisfactory but entirely unspecial meal (which you could get all over Lisbon for a fraction of the price) and ii) this place operates two... We went to the tourist centre asking for fado places, they told us this place was amazing and food was great, on average we will pay 40€ each. Nothing was true. We had to wait 20 min to order the food after that and seeing the prices we just order mains and water, it took 1 hour for the mains... More

The music was great! We bought a CD to take home. We arrived at 21:00 and the tables were full, so we sat with the musicians for a bit until the music resumed, then we stood. The white wine was a little pricy but we only had one glass and there was no cover charge. After a while a space... More

Staying in Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria

Neighborhood Profile
Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria
Explore narrow streets and alleyways, small cafes and, of course, the internationally acclaimed Fado music. The earth-shattering Great Earthquake of 1755 destroyed most of the city but the contiguous neighborhoods of Mouraria, Castelo and Alfama remained standing to this day. These neighborhoods represent Lisbon at its historical best. The cool breeze of the Tagus river will take you up the hills to the sound of Fado, where you'll discover the best "tascas," eat delicious fresh fish and drink great wines. Discover hidden viewpoints and ancient traces of other civilizational ruins in the heart of the Portuguese capital. These are centuries-old neighborhoods that will welcome you to the very best of old Lisbon culture.
