We waited around 20 minutes before we reached the counter to order. If you were a local then you could enter via a side door and get served much faster than us tourists. They also got to eat inside though it was cramped and standing room only. Bar and sandwich prep all went on behind the counter. It was a beehive of activity with lots of chatter between staff and customers. One of the only issue with the restaurant was its location at the corner where cars periodically had to made a right turn. This split the line and sometimes people did not realize this and had to scurry out of the cars way. The menu was simple with the bifana, beer and soup. We don’t order sandwiches much but this one would be a repeat since the pork was tender and very juicy and roll was soft. Yellow mustard was a great addition. We ate it on the ledge right outside the restaurant (fit the three of us just right).

The bifanas were very rich, with a price of €3 without cheese, and the large beer at €3.50. However, it’s important to be vigilant because they seem to take advantage of tourists: sometimes they misunderstand what you ask for and end up charging you more. Recommended for food, but better check the price list well before paying

As I stood in line, I heard several times that "the tourists have ruined this place for the locals". While that may be true, the yumminess of this place should not be kept a secret! While they had a menu with other items, I stayed true to the bifanas. I had read that the original owner had transferred the recipe and the business to the new proprietor so I thought I'd see if the wait was worth it. Luckily I stayed pretty close to this place so I could pop over when the line was short or nonexistent. Basically if you show up after 12, be prepared to wait. The good news is that the line moves pretty fast. They don't have tables so you can sit in the square or you can order it for takeaway and find a lovely bench or steps. Either way, you won't be sorry. The bread is crusty on the outside, soft on the inside. The pork is perfectly seasoned and if you're thirsty, get a Sagres to go with it! Go there. Get a bifana. You're welcome. BTW, they only accept euros (cash) so don't forget to stop by an ATM. The bifanas were only 2.70 Euros so you won't need much :-) Enjoy!

Okay I am going to upset the TikTok crowd…it is not worth waiting on the line for a basic pork sandwich. As a jaded New Yorker I would not recommend this even 3 star. It is okay at best why would you waste your precious time waiting for pork sandwiches with no flavor. I came here because my daughter insisted..well I am the dummy. Don’t make the mistake.

Went here twice and both times it was a tourist destination based on the crowd. The pork is less than desirable due to its chewy texture. There are other bifana shops with meatier and more tender cuts of pork. It appears the locals are venturing elsewhere. For example, I venture into other shops during my walks where bifanas were served and saw locals. No lines filled with tourists. Just as similar is taste, in some cases the pork was juicier. The addition of hot oil and mustard seemed to be the attraction for many and the actual reason people eat this sandwich. This bifana is at a higher price point than others due to the tourists craze. If in the neighborhood, maybe stop in for the infamous sandwich. Otherwise, just pop into another shop without lines/tourists and you will have the similar experience. This spot seems justifiably a good choice due to research via other tourist or digital nomad recommendations. However, talk to a local and not a tourist, expat or transplant. Otherwise, explore without the itinerary and find a true local spot for bifanas.

I'll write in English so I hope this review reaches as many people as possible. The employees working in this establishment are racist and they discriminate and mock people who are just trying to have a good experience. The cook shouted at me in Portuguese (after he caught I understand the language) that tourists are ruining everything that's theirs, they are ruining their tradition and that one day he'll end up having to make kebab just to please foreigners' taste. He did this while refusing to serve me because my Portuguese wasn't good enough to be served from the queue of locals; it got so bad I had to offer to show them my residence card to prove I have been living here for 6 years. They complain about tourists while they have a line that goes on forever, where people are willing to wait for such a long time just to grab a bite there. If it wasn't for tourists they would be making 1/10 of the profit they are making (all while evading taxes obviously since they do not allow payments by card), so if they are so angry about it they could refuse to serve non-Portuguese people and that would be it. You can have the best product in the word, but if you are narrow-minded, misogynist, ignorant, you are not going to go very far.

Amazing Bifana, but the service is terrible. People queue up thinking they have 15 people in front of them. But they let other tiur guides to sneak in through other doors and suddenly the wait time forecast changes from 10 mims to 45 mins It's ridiculous and very unfair, they need to work on fort for sure. Also, this is not a very local place - just a tourist attraction where everyone queues up becasue they see others queing up!

Excellent choice for a snack or even a meal. We found the place by chance when we were going to a supermarket to buy water. We saw a line and were curious. There was no other way to check it out. Sliced pork sandwich that can come with cheese €4 or just with meat €3. Simply delicious. Great snack option to eat in your hotel room to end a day of sightseeing accompanied, of course, by a good Portuguese wine.

What a great sandwich and great value! If you like a good meat sandwich this is a must try, simple yet delicious and very satisfying especially with the mustard and hot oil! My wife and kids loved it! I ordered 3 Bifanas, 3 cokes, 1 glass of Sagres & 1 bottle of water for just €14 and change. You simply order by the window and if you don't specify for take away they will give you the sandwich on a small plate where you can take it by the plaza beside it and sit by the circular bench under the tree and when you are done simply return the plate by the window. Note the patio tables, chairs and chalk board menu by the plaza is for the other restaurant.

You really can't go wrong here. We came here after a long flight early afternoon and just needed some food. For 2.50 euros, you get a soft, warm, toasty roll with meat. Ask for the spicy sauce if that's what you like. Lather on some mustard on your own. It's a nice bite that will warm your heart. Order a beer to wash it all down.

We were recommend to try bifanas and I found this place by scouring trip advisor, they were cheap and delicious. We could sit on a nearby bench where there was live music playin and enjoy them. We went back several times! We also went on a food tour in Porto where our guide took us to try the ‘best bifanas’ and we argued with her they weren’t as good as the ones here! She wasn’t impressed as was adamant no Lisbon bifanas could be better than the ones in porto! But these were!

20 minute queue on street to reach the hatch and it was worth every minute. Juicy thin succulent strips of pork on a warm crusty roll served in a paper wrap. Add oil or mustard for extra heat but be careful, these sandwiches will get messy so grab extra tissues. You are eating on the street or public bench, possibly juggling a nice cold beer. Cheap lunch on the go, am sorry we only found it on our last day. Gorgeous

Great bifanas. Every element of this sandwich was perfect. Fresh Portuguese bread buns, juicy and tasty thin pork steaks. The place is very central and also cozy. You can stand in front of the shop corners and have a sandwich and beer or sit in the sitting area outside.

Nothing better than a Bifanas in Lisbon. At €2.70, you can’t beat this place. Contrary to other reviews, we waited only 5 mins for a great sandwich and cold beer. Trust me, avoid the tourist trap restaurants and grab yourself a great sandwich for the fraction of the past. Note, no sit down, you sit on the steps outside the takeout and enjoy your meal.

Portugese take-away! Excellent. Be aware that there are no seats available. If you choose to order beer then you will stand, sit on the curb or find a bench nearby. We ordered to go and ordered beverages and olives from the outdoor patio cafes/taverns next door - literally you turn around and there they are. These are wonderful sandwiches - recommend!

Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!
