Great food, 3rd fado singer was awesome, rest of the night was average. €7.50 for a single beer after bill was paid, argument with owner as we tried to leave Customer service is nonexistent. Don’t bother...

Nice building, good local music and the waiter was great. However, the food was uninspiring - I don't think they have a professional chef - and the other staff were having a laugh. In summary, I would go somewhere else. Shame because the musicians deserve...an audience.More

As you can read there is a preponderance of reviews that are terrible and poor. I didn't rate it terrible only because the food was OK. The service is just OK. But as others have said be careful on what they actually charge you for...on the bill. AND no where-signs or on the menu-does it show that they do not take credit cards. In fact, there are other restaurants on the same street that do have signs stating that they do not take credit cards. We were not interested in the fado show and were almost stopped from leaving because we couldn't excuse ourselves to walk by the fado show.More

Contrary to quite a few reviewers below, I've had an excellent experience here. It's in the middle of the old city so my expectations for "tourist trap" were already there but it turned out wonderful. The food was delicious and ginormous portions of excellent price...(seriously, i couldn't finish and i normally always do). And the best part were to fado music performers. This is quite common for many restaurants in Lisbon but this one had a unique atmosphere / setting as well (a little cave-like and antique) - you literally had the feeling of being transported back in time to the old world. After dinner, there was a dessert buffet one could select from but we were already much too full. I don't recall if we paid by credit card or cash howerver. An absolutely wonderful experience overall. As for charging extra for bread / olives? That's just standard for many restaurants in Lisbon so it's important not to apply the standard from other countries when traveling.More

Horrible restaurant. Menu is a trap, they do not notice about extra charges for bread, olives and dessert. Water 5 EUROS!! And if this wasn't enough, they do not accept credit cards. Staff really bad, not emphatic when you complained about the situation. Awful place...to go, avoid it if possible.More

If I could give less than one star I would. The restaurant is cute and cozy but the owner is a complete jerk. Food and drinks are overpriced. It’s a complete tourist trap beer was 7.50 euro. Breaks are long and you are lucky if...you hear three songs in a row. Go somewhere else and spend your money and get the real Fado experience. Alfama is full of awesome Fado bars. Also beware of the sneaky minimun 15 euros per person consumption charge that nobody tells you about. In the end go to a real Fado bar where you can enjoy Fado and not be taken advantage of.More

Fado started out okay. My fiancé and I walked in to get a drink and listen to Fado after having dinner. We should’ve researched the place before going because I see now that they already have bad reviews but we were trying to do something...spur of the moment. Once the bill came out, our (2) drinks added up to €20, which is absolutely ridiculous and expensive for the area. The host, our waiter, and the head waiter failed to mention that there was a minimum of €15/pp. So, we put €20 on the box and left. The head waiter chased us down the road about half of a mile at least accusing us of not paying the bill, when it seemed to us they made a mistake adding up our bill. We ended up giving him €10 to keep the peace, but it left us feeling cheated. If we had been told this by at least one of the three people we interacted with, we could’ve stayed and had another drink instead of feeling like we lost money. Worst experience ever, but trying not to let this taint our experience in Portugal, because every other place we’ve been to so far is amazing. ABSOLUTE TOURIST TRAP; DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE!!!More

We were looking for a nice place yo try local food and listen to Fado. This place looked ok and they said they don’t charge you extra for the Fado live show, but you have to consume 15€ at least. Didn’t sound bad because each...dish was about that price. The prices are ridiculous. First they will sit you wherever they want, for us, the place was empty and they put us behind a column so we couldn’t see the ‘stage’, then the waitress comes with bread, olives and dressings but these are NOT included. Then I only asked for a glass of water but they brought me a 1.5l bottle that costed 5€ when outside on every store is 1€ (same brand). The food portions were ok, but not great, I asked for the seafood rice and have never been scared of my own food in my life until then, but maybe that was just a wrong choice for me. For Fado they ask you to be quiet and they turn off the lights, no flash allowed so obviously you cannot really see and of course cannot record anything. The place gets full at some point and the tables are so close to each other that you cannot stand up and leave without making people around you to stand up and move as well. What a shame this place, selfish and liars about the prices, tricking people to pay more than what they should.More

We got treated super bad for wanting to split the bill. They were very rude and were talking bad about us to each other in front of me!!! If they do this to Portuguese (and we’re from Lisbon), imagine what they do and say about...tourists behind their backs. Places like these are killing Alfama and Lisbon. Please don’t support this!More
