For €15 I had a tasty fish soup, grilled mackerel and a small salad, melon and half a bottle of reasonable local red. Not fine dining but a damn good lunch.

A local friend took us for dinner at Pateo 13 for our last night in Lisbon. The restaurant is in a lovely spot, hidden in a sweet little courtyard. The service was impeccable and the food was delicious and very good value. Would highly recommend.

This restaurant was highly rated in the "Lonely Planet guide to Portugal" so we decided to try it. FINDING it was an entirely different matter! Once we eventually did find it, it was like finding the treasure at the end of the hunt. Authentic Portugese food- we ate the fresh sardines that they grilled in front of us. Restaurant was... More

Restaurant has really good location, but atmosphere is just ok. Fresh fish was nice, but we expected better, particular atmosphere. Finally IT was rather touristic place.

As others have noted, this place is very touristy, overpriced, low quality food. The fish was fresh but very little done to them.

Stumbled across Pateo 13 during a walk in the area. The restaurant offers traditional no frills but well-executed Portuguese food in a wonderful setting. The waiters were very friendly and the whole experience was very enjoyable. Highly recommended.

We've spent two weeks in Portugal, so we can compare our dinner here to many others in different places across the country, including Lisbon. We hadn't made a booking the evening we stumbled across this place, so it was the only available option in Alfama for a party of four. There was a line, we waited, we were taken to... More

If you're looking for great simple and local Portuguese food, this is the place. Don't be put off by the simplicity of the pictures. What they do best are simply grilled fresh fish that is the best I've ever tasted. We got an order of sea bass and an order of the cod. Highly recommend the sea bass if you... More

Worst swordfish I've eaten. Worst ribs I've eaten. Poor salad. Chips ok. Steak ok. Pretty slow grumpy service. Nothing in comparison to Sophia La Luca where we went the night before.

My friend and I were staying in Alfama, just a few minutes away from this nice outdoor restaurant, which is what attracted us to it in the first place. We ended up going twice, and would have gone more had our trip been longer. It serves great traditional Portuguese food consisting of simply grilled fish. I had the sea bass... More

Staying in Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria

Neighborhood Profile
Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria
Explore narrow streets and alleyways, small cafes and, of course, the internationally acclaimed Fado music. The earth-shattering Great Earthquake of 1755 destroyed most of the city but the contiguous neighborhoods of Mouraria, Castelo and Alfama remained standing to this day. These neighborhoods represent Lisbon at its historical best. The cool breeze of the Tagus river will take you up the hills to the sound of Fado, where you'll discover the best "tascas," eat delicious fresh fish and drink great wines. Discover hidden viewpoints and ancient traces of other civilizational ruins in the heart of the Portuguese capital. These are centuries-old neighborhoods that will welcome you to the very best of old Lisbon culture.
