This is a popular outdoor restaurant and you will probably have to queue, but it is worth the wait. The food is unfussy with generous Portuguese portions and at a bargain price. I had meat skewers (espetada) and my partner had lemon sole. We also had desserts and a half bottle of wine each. The total was around 40 euros.... More

We came from the Castelo de São Jorge and was quite difficult to find it. We arrived when they where closing but they were very nice and accepted our food order. The food was fresh but our main problem was: housefly and Bottle Fly. We ended up trying to get rid of them all the time and was quite annoying.... More

We were recommended a small place hidden from the main streets and it was a brilliant find! Very casual dining, we arrived at 8 and had to wait 20 min or so, either get there army or be prepared to wait. We were able to order a drink and waited on the steps. There are no pretenses here, you can... More

We found this restaurant just by chance while walking around the small streets in the Alfama. Tables are set on the side walk (it's a only pedestrians site), and the kitchen too! The food is great and was worth waiting almost one hour for a table. Reservations can only be taken with 24 hrs notice. We had a grilled black... More

This is where you want to go for your meal of traditional and beautifully cooked seafood while you are in Lisbon. It's beautifully cooked, low fuss seafood. Served with potatoes and salad, very simple but delicious. Great cheap wine and sangria. Excellent service. Very simple outdoor setting. Get in by 8 unless you want to face hefty queues!! Although they... More

We bumped into this place by accident while exploring the Alfama district. What a nice surprise! The atmosphere was great, very lively and full of local people. The food was simple but excellent, same as the sangria. The prices were very reasonable as well. I would definitely come again!

We got here jus tin time before the lunchtime rush. Once we were wasted the line started forming and once the food came we knew why. Great typical food well prepared. You eat outside under shade, good in the summer heat. Portion are big and we over ordered. But it was so good we had to eat it all. Spicy... More

Staying in Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria

Neighborhood Profile
Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria
Explore narrow streets and alleyways, small cafes and, of course, the internationally acclaimed Fado music. The earth-shattering Great Earthquake of 1755 destroyed most of the city but the contiguous neighborhoods of Mouraria, Castelo and Alfama remained standing to this day. These neighborhoods represent Lisbon at its historical best. The cool breeze of the Tagus river will take you up the hills to the sound of Fado, where you'll discover the best "tascas," eat delicious fresh fish and drink great wines. Discover hidden viewpoints and ancient traces of other civilizational ruins in the heart of the Portuguese capital. These are centuries-old neighborhoods that will welcome you to the very best of old Lisbon culture.
