Great food at very very fair prices. We had soup, steak, fries and salad and everybody was enjoying their meal immensely. Delightful staff and atmosphere. The restaurant does not look a lot from the outside but once you enter that impression is changed. I think...we were lucky that the restaurant we actually had planned to visit that day was closed so we tried this one instead. A 15 minutes walk from the sanctuary but worth the effort!More
Good products and, if you appreciate a grilled meat with excellent quality, it is the right place!
Anyway, all the choices are advisable: starters, cheeses, sausages, salads, meat or fish dishes, in which balhacau stands out, to the varied desserts, all is good.
We also...have a good variety for wines and price is acording to the quality. If you have a complete meal for 2 persons, blottle of wine included, you can pay around 40€ or a little more. But, sometimes, no need to ask 2 meals, because they are big enought!More
My husband and I are travelers. We love to go to restaurants that are not "touristic" but rather to establishments that the locals go to for good food. Often for lunch we might stop on the road where one sees trucks where people of the...trades are dining, as they seem to know the best places to eat.
In Fatima though, we were leary of going to restaurants that were close to the shrine. Somehow we found this Retiro. When we walked in, we immediately knew we had chose the right place. Although not every table was taken (thank goodness), there were many tables occupied by Portugese families that were obviously enjoying some great food. We were seated, and since there was only one waiter who spoke limited English (He is the son of the owners), we thought we might have a challenge in front of us. Not to be. We had a truly WONDERFUL meal. From the bread, salad, rabbit stew, fish, and the dessert, coffee and house wine....everything was wonderful. Somehow I was able to get across to the waiter that I was interested in knowing where I could purchase a similar traditional clay pot that the stew was served in. Before I left, the wife gave me the pot to take home! Where would you find this? I was absolutely delighted, and have already used this pot at my own home in the USA> Generous to a fault, and wonderful real Portugese food served with love, byt a family. Mom, Dad and son were all smiles, as obviously were my husband and I. I would go back in a second.....So do not hesitate to go to this restaurant for lunch and dinner. You will not be disappointed.......in anything. I wish I could give this ten stars.More
If you like traditional Portuguese food in a peculiar and interesting place, you should visit this place.
A bit far from the Sanctuary, if you are walking, but easy to reach by car or bike.
Its a friendly restaurant, very good meals, and if you...go on winter time it has a fire that keeps the restaurant totally cosy!
Prices are ok, but can be a bit more if you drink wine.
Not easy to come with wheelchairs as it has some stairs to walk in.
