House of Wonders is indeed that. Huge plates of delicious veggie food, served by attentive staff and gracious, friendly Anna speaking several languages and passionate about her food! Several places to eat but my favourite are the two terraces....,,informal, lovely places to enjoy the sun and light of Portugal, and to reflect how lovely Cascais is!
Not a cheap restaurant...but quality/food...very good!

Loved this place. Yes, I agree the food is expensive, but the ingredients used are fresh, tasty and experimental. The same can be said for the juices.
If you’re looking for a cheap and cheerful bite to eat, go somewhere else. If you’re looking for fresh food served lovingly in a beautiful place, look no further.

Lovely seating areas either at the front of the cafe, or on the roof terrace. You order from the inside, picking your plate(s) and drinks 'with your eyes' (is what it says on the sign). And the plates look amazing. Beautifully presented with love and care. We ordered two large plates at 12 EUR each and this satisfied 4 of us as a light lunch. Consisted of veggie sushi rolls, omelet, and other vegan/veggie/salad creations that were all very good. The fresh juices were also great, and made a change from the usual fridge-full of canned soft drinks. Special mention for the Sangria, which was the best we had whilst in Portugal. Recommended for something a little different when wandering the streets of Cascais.

We have been scammed for €95!!
We thought it was a nice bar to sit and enjoy a drink. The owner of the place suggested us to have two bottles of wine and we agreed with it, with the intention of having diner later at the time, she was very friendly at this moment. Later we figured out the diner was only vegan and decided to move out and also told the lady gently that we would not eat the diner and continue looking. At this moment she was mad and when we paid the check we almost paid €100 for 2 bottles of wine and 3 portions of tzasizki salad with 4 pieces of dry bread!!! 🤬🤬🤬

We came as a family of four but were made to sit on two tables of two on the outdoors roof which is rather nonsensical considering the fact that we are the same household. Food took a while to arrive and we were torn into esoterically when asking for coffee. Apparently the flavours of the coffee do not complement their food if drunk before the meal. One of the staff imposed their teacher-esque mannerisms on the young adults (18 and 19 years old) of the family, creating an awkward and unwarranted atmosphere.
On the plus side, servers were otherwise lovely and food was good.
Avoid and go for real Portuguese food in Cascais.

It looks like a welcoming, chilled out place with a hippie vibe from the outside but don't be fooled.
I was made to feel very unwelcome because I didn't want to order food right away, and 'only' wanted a coffee . We were told in no uncertain terms we were not allowed onto the roof terrace because I wasn't eating.
The roof terrace ban wouldn't necessarily be a problem as I do understand why premium space would be reserved for premium eaters. However, the tone and manner in which the server informed us left a lot to be desired. Plus my friend had actually ordered a 12 Euro plate of food plus drinks so one of us was indeed eating, and not exactly at economy prices! And what if we just wanted to share one plate between us? It wasn't pleasant to be made to feel guilty for not being hungry.
The food ordering process was in unnecessarily complicated with no menu, just a long-winded sales pitch with the server talking you though every opinion. If anything, I was after a light snack and everything available seemed to be a larger daily special, priced around the 12 euro mark. The server was actually overly friendly at this point, bordering on intense. However, she soon turned on us when she realised I wasn't keen to eat!
When my friend's food arrived the order was wrong; no apology and it look ages to rectify. I had a bite of her food and it was nice enough and well presented, but overpriced for what it was.
At the end of the meal we had to go up to the 1st floor to pay and it was swarming with flies.
On the plus side the decor was very quirky and cool, but given the unwelcome, fake-friendly attitude of the staff I wont be back. Shame, I live locally and could have been a regular. My advise to House of Wonders would be if you're going for the food only crowd and aren't happy for people to order drinks then make that clearer by changing the concept. At the moment then place presents like an upscale cafeteria. More importantly treat paying customers with a little more respect.

The place looks amazing, very tasteful decoration. The good tastes pretty good when you finally receive it. This brings me to an important issue of house of wonders. It truly makes you wonder.
Upon entering we waited some time to be served, when finally an employee told us you need to order inside. No worries, but a little sign somewhere would have been helpful.
Inside a middle aged woman was carefully explaining every dish to people in front of us. An employee saw us waiting and told us we could order with, so we did. When we were about to pay, the middle aged woman told us we should order with her with an aggravated tone. Sorry, we were not aware, maybe instruct your employees a bit better. But it did show us the kind of level of hospitality.
We went back to our seats to wait for our shakasuckq and omelet. Every once in a while some employees wondered on the deck asking almost all the guests “did you order ….?” And see them walking away to try the same at the rooftop. It was kind of amazing to be part of this weird setup. If people need to order inside, give them a little sign with a number and ask them to put it at their table. This all made it seem very amateuristic. I don’t understand why they make a simple thing as serving customers so difficult.
If gordan Ramsey would have been a spectator of this restaurant, you would hear censored beeps every 5 seconds.
The place looks amazing, but needs serious attention tohospitallity and needs to implement some kind of optimized system for serving customers. If you have all the time an patience in the world, check out this place.

If you just feel like stopping for a cup of coffee maybe choose somewhere else. We were strolling in the centre of Cascais early in the morning and my wife had a sudden urge for an espresso so we decided to stop at this cafe. She asked for a cup of coffee at the door and the waiter then proceeded to ask if me or our son(3years old) would like anything to which we replied no (since we only intended to make a good quick stop). The reply was met with a large frown and when we asked if we could grad a seat in the outdoor courtyard the reaction was a long “a....” which made us feel like it was a tall ask. Considering that large space had only 2 other seated customers there, it just made us feel completely unwelcome. We stuck around for the coffee but we are definitely not going back for anything at all, meal or drinks...

The cheese was orrible and made the little lasagna uneatable, tasteless vegetables, strange sauces. They don't tell you prices taking advantage of tourists disorientation, there is no menu, you point at a plate and they ""cook"" that for you. If you are Italian don't go there, I was alone and hungry so I did a mistake. Good looking place by the way

Been there for breakfast/brunch and it felt like a tourist trap. The place is really nice but I guess too big to serve decent food. The place was empty and we had to wait and chase to get our food served. The juice are not fresh at all!!!. I dont get comments from people praising the "fresh juices" when it's obvious that they are not fresh at all. I saw a bottle of orange juice in the bin!...plus it's already made..so dont be fool. They lure you with baskets of fresh fruits. The food was ok but nothing creative as you could expect from this kind of vegan hippie place. I do not recommend.

I went to the counter to order. I was asked by one of the waitresses if we were going to order food, I said no, we wanted to have cakes, coffee and juice. They had 3 or 4 different types of cakes on display and a variety of fruit juices and coffees.
She replied that they are not able to sit us down, unless we order food as well, as it is lunch hour and they are very busy. It was 2:20pm.
I had no choice but to change my order to take away, although what we really wanted was to sit down. I ordered 2 coffees, a slice of cake and one of their natural juices.
On my way out, I noticed that there were plenty of available tables. They also have a rooftop terrace with seating and that was empty at the time.
I approached the waitress and asked her what the reason was as to why we were refused a table. She was not able to give me an answer and became slightly argumentative. When I referred to the venue as a “coffee shop”, she corrected me twice, by saying: “It’s not a coffee shop, it’s a restaurant!”.
I asked to speak to a manager. Her reply was that they don’t have a manager. I then asked to speak to the owner. She told me the owner is inside, but refused to take me to her. After asking one more staff member, I managed to locate the lady who presented herself as the owner.
My intention was to find out why we were refused a table, given that there were tables available. They seem to have a practice to force customers to order food, in order to be able to sit down at one of their tables. I looked at their one star online reviews and it looks like this is something they are doing on a regular basis.
My guess is that this sort of practice is infringing on customer rights and is illegal.
Furthermore, I found the owner to be condescending and rude, lacking the most basic sense of respect and courtesy towards me.
When I approached her, she said with a grin: “So, what’s the matter sweetheart? You’re upset because you couldn’t have your cake?”. I am an adult who doesn’t like to be ridiculed or infantilized in any circumstance, let alone when I am paying for a service.
She had no interest in what I had to say, she kept interrupting me and talking over me, raising her voice. When I told her that I am going to write up a formal complaint, she asked derisively: “So, who are you going to complain with?”.
Let aside the level of rudeness and inconsideration towards customers, the owner of this restaurant is engaging, in my opinion, in an abusive and coercive practice, which needs to be addressed and stopped.
To answer the owner’s last question to me, I did write a complaint today through the Deco Proteste website, the largest consumer organization in Portugal, which I will follow up with.

I used to love coming to this place for tea and cake and have been going there the past few years whenever I am in Portugal. However, I was quite disappointed by how we were received today when we simply asked if we could have tea today. We were rudely told we can only eat there.
Even though it’s past lunchtime. I understand things change but there is no need to be talked to like that. Awful customer service. I would’ve liked to come back to try the food, but not now.

Fresh clean food. We visited this restaurant for lunch during our trip to Portugal. They don’t have a menu but they have the real prepared plates on display, when we were there they had 6 choice plus desserts . I am a vegetarian so it was like heaven! We decided to eat at the terrace roof, it was lovely in December, not too cold. On the second floor you get your choice of drinks, a great selection of fresh natural juices, yummy and refreshing. They brought the food to the roof terrace and it was amazingly delicious. We enjoyed the company of the seagulls who came to check our lunch ;) the service was very good with friendly staff.

Good - location and decoration are good. The place is beautiful, very “instagrammable” and really close to the charming streets of Cascais. Delicious juice and beautiful food but of course, not cheap.
Poor - the stay is uncomfortable. It is as if we were begging to be there and the staff is always afraid of making decisions because they have a really rude and sour manager. She makes an effort to make sure every costumer spends only the necessary time in the place and order as much food and drink possible. As a resident, I’ve been there many times because the place is beautiful and well located, but as a person who works with costumer services, it is visible they lack touch with people. Such a nice place ruled by a rude manager.

The quality of the food was simply amazing and at a great price. €11.50 for a main course and a great selection. The sushi was a work of art and tasted every bit as good as it looked. The ambience was very relaxed with no pressure on people to finish up and move on. The ordering process is a little eccentric in that you go in and pick what you want to eat and drink and then go and find a seat. Somehow the staff are able to locate you and deliver your order to your table. I've no idea how they keep track of everyone. Payment is similar. It seems to be something of an honour system relying on you to go back in and up to the top floor to pay your bill which is based on your recollection of what you had.
