Three of us popped in here for lunch. The attractive area on the street is reserved for smokers, so we were shown inside and were surprised how far the restaurant went back, and how popular it was. We had grilled calamari, grilled cod and the...More

Popped here for lunch for a caldeirada, which was very good, plenty of different fish & seafood. We also had steak with squid & prawns & the steak was wonderful. The oysters we also ordered were a bit small & disappointing though.

Called in for lunch on the way to Aveiro. Service was pleasant. Food was good in the main, the oysters were a bit disappointing, very small. Fish stew was tasty and the steak we had was cooked to perfection.

Ate some dinner here after a day out at the beach. Lucky we went early as it got quite busy. If you like fish then you will be in the right place although for us meat eaters there was something as well. Food was as...More

Was recommended to this restaurant by our Hotel, however the night was spoiled by incomplete translation of the menu combined with incorrect description by the waiter who didn't give a toss for us English speaking people even though he could speak English reasonably well. Had...More

... É sardinha de primeira. I read this inside the restaurant. Not a fan of sardines but the food is very good. Well known by locals, very good restaurant. Not the best service but not bad at all.

Located in the town centre this restaurant certainly lived up to the many accolades we heard from hotel staff and local people prior to our visit. We were able to get a table without any problem but be aware that reservations are necessary as the...More

Came in around 8pm, got seated straight away. The place was still filled with locals, but as they started leaving the tourists started coming in. The staff spoke english, were very welcoming, the portions were big and tasty. 40Eur for 2 people.

Description
A family history, connected since its early ages to the catering industry and that, on 15 May 1976, inaugurated the restaurant “Caçarola 1”, on the side street of the Casino. This restaurant, managed by Graça Mortágua and her husband Alcino Mortágua, is a welcoming place suitable for all social classes. “We have clients looking for snacks, working men looking for the “dish of the day” and more formal clients who wish for an elaborate meat, fish or seafood dish. This versatility allows us to create a familiar environment, where everyone feels good and finds the meal they are looking for”. This family from Mortágua welcomes wonderfully and equally all clients, and makes this restaurant a truly familiar space. It has 17 employees all year round (a number that almost doubles during the summer), and it is open daily from10am to 2am. It is a restaurant where the fresh fish is the king, but where you can also eat excellent meat in a great diversity of typical dishes. The chef recommends Kid in the Oven (on Sundays), Bass “Massada” (Pasta), Monkfish Rice or “Caçarola” Codfish.
