a canadinha was a great dining experience, with traditional/historic decor shedding light on the intimate, family-style legacy that is the restaurant! tasty, fresh and local cuisine, and despite being rather busy, service was kind and speedy! some of the dishes enjoyed were the swordfish, the bread to start, and the infamous house pudding. extra shoutout to the young male server who brought the food and initiated a conversation with us, despite the language barrier! everything extremely affordable. thank you!

A Canadinha keeps the atmosphere and style of the old Portuguese 'casa de pasto', which is a synonym for good home food, in substancial portions at a low cost. For the average British person, one portion is enough for two. Differently from most of the other restaurants in the island, they don't have a break and are open for meals from 9.30am to 11pm!

If you are staying at the Pousada, this restaurant is a 5 minute walk from your hotel. Large selection of meat and fish dishes, including local fare, the quail was awesome! Great service, good sized portions and a fabulous wine selection, a friendly cozy atmosphere. The prices here are also very good compared to other restaurants in the city core.

We visited this restaurant while visiting the island of Terceira. We had a bad experience as I got sick from their fried fish. I was up all night with stomach cramps. My husbands meal (bitoque) was good. Prices are fair but service was terrible. We had a reservation for 1 pm and even with a reservation it took over 1 hour to get our food. One of the waitresses in particular appeared upset all the time and was inconvenienced if customers asked for anything. I myself would not go back as it takes too long to get your meal and I don’t want to get sick again.

Your typical portuguese restaurant: lots to see in the walls, old feel, noisy with a somewhat controlled friendly caos. Started with no table (very full, with queue.. this one is popular). I was invited to join a table and ended up making local friends. Can't get more portuguese than this. The food is way delicious, cheap, and with good (albeit big) quantity. I had only typical local Azorean dishes: Alcatra, Morcela with Pineapple and the Dona Amelia pie. Damn was delicious! Kind of far, but walkable, from historical center. Staff is friendly and funny. Must visit in the city.

We were lost looking for another restaurant on a dark and dreary evening in a two door smart car...enough said.
Found this restaurant in a very non descriptive area. Food (huge portions),service (super friendly) and cold beer. Wife had the white fish ...so light and delicious pan fries with potatoes and salad. I had a steak with a coffee sauce, fries and rice . Decent enough. Custard pudding for dessert..delicious!
Add three beers for 25 Euro.
Placed was packed and we were lucky to have squeezed in as if reservation.

the place where locals eat, amazing for the price. typical portuguese cuisine with a very fair price. staff is just amazing, fast and typical portuguese experience.
i’ve eaten here a few times and it is just great.
not saying you’ll eat the best food in the island, but for the price and service it is just the right place to be.
thank you canadinha

Very local. Was very full on a Sunday for lunch, but they squeezed me in. I decided to try the local beef speciality, alcatra (it's in a red wine sauce), and it was quite yummy. The waiters seemed a little harried, but the main guy who took my order was super nice--I speak Portuguese, but Brazilian Portuguese, so I struggle here with accents, and he was very nice about trying to make sure we understood each other. The only thing that was odd was paying--I got asked something to do with local tax regulations that simply does not apply to a foreigner--the waitress was visibly annoyed at me, but I finally just said "I don't understand, I'm not from here," and then it was OK.

The food is good but with too mutch salt and grease (ood way to make it tasty) the waiter have a lot of work but that doesn't make a excuse for the poor service. It's more for a quick lunch and leave (cafeteria style).

After reading a few comments on TripAdvisor about the service, we were a bit sceptical about going to this restaurant, but after a long journey, we were tired and hungry, and decided to go in. I ordered a steak with the creamy coffee sauce, which is a delicious combination! My wife ordered a steak. We also got some complimentary bread, my wife had wine and I had a nice cold beer.
Prices are very reasonable and the restaurant had quite a few locals inside, which is always a good sign.
The service was great, polite and attentive.

The good:
- The food was good overall
The bad:
- We had to go and ask for cutlery because they brought none to the table
- We accidentally dropped a bottle of juice and they just placed some paper towels and nothing else and ignored the huge puddle of juice on the ground and didn't even mop it
- They brought bread to the table, and we said we didn't want any, but still it came on the bill (worth noting that they returned the money after we told them)
So, overall the food was good, but we didn't like the table service too much

Unbelievable. They didn't accept to serve me a dinner just because I was alone, despite a lot of empty tables outside. So disappointed!

Great food, great service. Very nice people. Loved it.
Try the inhames or the morcela. The steaks are great. The bacalhau is divine.
