Food was ok. Service was regular. Failed managing expectations regarding opening hours and some doubts about food. The venue is wonderful. It’s a shame that these facilities doesn’t have a restaurant to pair with the rest.

A Lovely Authentic Restaurant

We drove down this valley on the way up the mountain to Monchique and found this beautiful place with a hotel, spa and restaurant. The food was authentically Portuguese and very good value. The service was good too.

Lovely setting in the square but in the shade, just right on a hot sunny day. Only a few customers when we sat down but became busier. Only one waitress so took some time to take our order but even longer for our order to arrive. Single waitress was really rushed off her feet but acted calmly. Food was good, roasted quail and pork neck, cold beer and good coffee, a tasty lunch. As tourists we were not in a hurry but the poor waitress needed help. My companions, who have been coming here for a number of years commented that things were not as good as it used to be.

Restaurant 1692 Fails in Food and Service

Having been to this Restaurant in May 2023 I nothing but praise, so rebooked fro the 1 st July 2023. We booked an outside table due to the summer heat. On arrival we were told we would have eat inside due to a wedding earlier in the day. The room was hot with no air con and gentle background music we had enjoyed last time was so loud we had trouble making a conversation. We waited 20 minutes for the water to take our order and some drinks. It took then 90 minutes before our main course arrived after asking where the food was. Three of us had steak for our main course. We were asked how we wanted our steak cooked. We asked for medium to well done. When the food arrived all the steaks were under cooked with some parts still RAW , see image. We complained to the waiter and for my wife's plate, the waiter said he would speak to the chef. this was 22.30pm . We told him not bother , we were not prepared to wait another 90 minutes. He offered a small complimentary drink which never arrived . I paid the bill and informed the waiter who had done his best that I would make a formal compliant, but all he could do was apologise yet again. There weren't any management on duty at the time. It would seem that the Jewel and the Crown service we had first time round., had completely gone and the food and service we had was a a DISGRACE. We are local residents who support local restaurants all year round but after this experience I doubt we will be back. We had one member of the party who was Portuguse and explained the poor service and I was driving so no alcohol and retained s full memory of what happened on the night. Clearly if this restaurant is to survive it needs full management appraisal. Copy of this report will be sent all concerned parties including FORK

I would have scored this 0 / 5 ! We entered the restaurant which was almost empty at the time at about 8 pm and asked for a table for five. We got drinks straight away including a bottle of white wine and gave our orders - very simple , 5 mains off the menu. An hour later we were informed that the salmon order for one was no longer available. When we enquired as to the rest of the order we were told “5 minutes!” 45 minutes later we were still being told that it would be another 5 minutes. At this stage we gave up and asked to leave . Instead of apologising, the waiter laboriously added up every last peanut that was placed in front of us and charged us for three beers and a bottle of white wine as well as olives and bread without as much an apology. €48 lighter , we left never to return. Appalling !

The place to go for a 2 hour tasteless and forgettable meal

Very bad and slow service, had the "jazz menu" but the food was cold and tasteless. They took almost 15 min to get our orders after sitting us down, another 10 min for our appetizers (and they forgot the cheese and chorizo). The first plate took about 20 min and was cold. The second platter was another 10 min after we finished the first. The meat was tasteless and the spaghetti cold and bland (we returned it almost in full). A dessert (supermarket ice cream) and coffee (extra). The wine they provided wasn't even local, it came from Douro (on the other side of Portugal, there goes the sustainable approach...). At the end, it was a 2 hour meal that I will never forget... And I dread for the breakfast that we are supposed to have tomorrow!!!

It took some time to attract the attention of the waiters, in spite of the fact that there were just 10 tables around. The orders were simple : olives and lamb chops for my husband, and Gaspacho and grilled salmon for me, yet they manage to forget the olives and gave us stale bread. The service was slow and surly, the food was edible, but nothing more. The setting, outdoor under large trees, between two old buildings, has real charm. But unless they change their attitude, we will not go back.

We had gone here because we had read that the menu would contain Portuguese dishes. A review vd anwb indicated that the duck rice was so good. Curious, we went there. However, the menu has changed and no longer includes Portuguese dishes. Because we did not feel like a tourist menu we left.

we went there three days in a row since there was a recommendation for the food. We were shown a table to sit down. The waiters then never showed up for either handing us the menu or asking for drinks. Once we even sat there for about 40 minutes. Every time we left the place unnoticed. Speaks for itself :-)

The best visit yet!

Over the past 10 years or so we have visited this restaurant only to be mildly or very disappointed. Having read recent reviews we wondered if we should even bother this time, however we had brought a friend on holiday with us and wanted to show her this pretty part of the Algarve. To say we were pleasantly surprised was an understatement. We were greeted by a friendly waiter (the maitre d or manager I would guess) and shown to a table in the shade. The food was the best we’ve ever had here. The aforementioned gentleman suggested we moved tables for dessert so we were still in the shade as the sun moved round. I rarely have desserts but the orange and figs with almond ice cream was a regional delight. From start to finish the meal was fabulous.

Nice square and friendly service. Had booked, but did not realize there is a buffet on Saturday night. We were also surprised by a one-man band / Gino Vanilo impersonator on the beautiful square. Overall a nice square and friendly service.
