This is our local and you didn't disappoint, piri piri chicken was the best and bachalau a rampa never fails, we nearly didnt go as we thought the formula 1 might have made it impossible to get a table. Sadly for the owners we were...the only table all evening.More

As residents of Monchique, this is our local restaurant. Over the past two years, it has gone steadily downhill. The owner wants to sell and this is reflected in the investment in both kitchen and waiting staff. We had hoped, with the Covid closures, that...more effort might be made to attract and retain custom, but no. Like many restaurants, the menu has been reduced, but whereas other local restaurants aim to ensure the highest quality, A Rampa doesn’t bother. We requested Sardine pate with the couvert. Bearing in mind that this comes in individual tins, this should have been an easy request to fulfill - but no, they were closing in an hour (this was at 1pm!) and didn’t have any left. The Piri-piri chicken, which used to be a highlight, was undercooked and bloody around the joints. But the worst was the pork fillet with apple sauce. The pork had clearly been cooked previously and was sliced up, made into a kebab and reheated on the grill. Inevitably, it was dry as a bone. Monchique pork is a specialty here - this was the driest pork fillet I’ve eaten anywhere. The only good thing about the meal was the bottle of white Alentejo wine recommended by the waiter, who still remains surly and unwelcoming, despite the need to attract customers. At €13 a bottle, it should have been standout. We came away unhappy again despite our hopes that things might have improved. After yet another disappointment we have finally agreed this restaurant is a lost cause.More

We have been coming to this restaurant for over 10 years, it is a special treat for us to drive up, sit outside with the spectacular view and eat authentic Portuguese Food. The Chicken Piri-Piri is the best we have tried in the Western Algarve...and year after year it never fails! and extremely good value for money. We just love it.More

We stopped on our way back at the restaurant La Rampa on our way down from Foia to Monchique. Unformal service. No special anti-Covid 19 measures implemented. Food was okay - but the portion did vary a lot from a plate to the other: a...tiny grilled fish or squid against a huge piece of "secretos".More

My husband, daughters and I visited the restaurant for a traditional lunch of Piri Piri chicken in a rustic setting which is what we got. Other dishes which were being served looked delicious too. The owner was friendly and chatty and made us feel welcome....Would certainly go again.More

It's nice place to stop for lunch I'd recommend to stick to their famous locale dish chicken periperi which was amazing. Husband tool something else and it wasn't good. The bad point is that the service was very very long more than 1hour waiting before...to be served... Which can be ok when you are between adults but with kid who were starving that wasn't an easy lunch.. But Def good food.More

Had a great lunch with a lovely view. The peri peri chicken was really moist and full of flavour. Staff were very helpful and chatty especially with my 7 year old son but the wasps were a pain we had to move inside. Reasonable prices.

I have been visiting this restaurant for 15 years and up to this year have always had good friendly service from the family running it. The “Boss” now is a surly unwelcoming individual who abuses his staff in front of clients. My wife ordered boiled...shrimps which came up as fried but accepted them rather than send them back. They were so over cooked as to be completely inedible. She sent them back and went to go to the bathroom when she was accosted by the “Boss” and told that she had ordered fried in a very aggressive manner. She replied she didn’t, but they were inedible anyway. A replacement plate of boiled shrimp eventually arrived. I had my usual house speciality of eel stew which is normally delicious. This was over cooked too and not a patch on previous dishes. I left most of it in disgust. I will never return while it is owned and managed by that individual who is obviously in the wrong profession. Here’s hoping his reign is brief!!!More

Drove up into the mountains for lunch with a great view and the best piri piri chicken in the area. It has changed a bit since last visit, with the notable absence of the small regional marzipan cakes, but still a great lunch.
