My girlfriend and I were searching for a great fish dinner and stumbled upon this place. We had the swordfish and the swordfish belly. Both of which were extremely tasty and very filling. The prices were incredible (for what you were getting) and the portion...sizes were fantastic (large). The only downside to the restaurant was that they only accepted cash payment (as we are in a undergoing a pandemic, I didn't think this was appropriate).More

Very delicious fish restaurant. I know this restaurant already from two different vacations there and it’s been both times very good. The portion is big (maybe a bit too big), the fish fresh and everything is very delicious. The waiters and waitresses did a fast...and good job but I would recommend to be a bit more friendly to some of them. It’s not a restaurant to sit long, they’re serving fast and there is always a waiting line in summertime. If you’re looking for a good traditional fish meal then you’ll find it here, I can totally recommend it.More

We ate here two nights in a row - the food was really great - but they did run out of some of the dishes so recommend going early if going for dinner. Super authentic, always busy - all day and night. If there is...a queue outside make sure to go in and put your name on the waiting list. Very simple restaurant, nothing fancy at all - it is all about the food. Nice friendly vibe.More

Recommended by our guest house, Bar Da Lota lived up to its reputation for being rustic and reasonable even though the location was like a glorified parking lot. There were two sections: one under a flimsy tin roof where sound resonated to deafening proportions, and...a more outside location where we didn’t get as much of a headache but were still frustrated by plexiglass walls that prevented a much needed breeze from entering the restaurant. Food and beer here were great. My sardines were grilled and savory, and my wife’s salmon steak was also excellent. They didn’t accept credit card, but the prices were low enough to be worth the inconvenience.More

I've been to Bar da Lota a few times with some sailing friends from the Marina. The fish was always fresh and full-flavoured, though some of the methods of cooking are a surprise. For example the sardinhas baked in salt is a strange one, but...the salt doesn't seem to cause a problem. I'm looking forward to my next trip for sail training and will visit the Bar da Lota again.More

Prawns - frozen and reheated soft and tasteless. Steak - broiled. Didn’t even ask how I wanted it done. Poor quality meat badly cooked. Couldn’t cook a steak to save his/her life.

Fabulous spot for fresh fish. Looked to get mine with head off which they arranged no problem. Potatoes weren't great, should have ordered chips, but fish was amazing. NOTE - this is a cash only restaurant.

Some people like posh places with linen napkins and flowers on the table and others prefer great fresh local food in a friendly informal atmosphere. If that's you then you will love Lota Tucked away on a corner of the dockyard behind the old railway...station. Lovely fresh fish and grills with tasty salads and potatoes. Try a litre jug of local wine for €4 and chat to the people next to you. One of our favourite places. Walk into town after for an ice cream coffee or cheeky local brandy.More

Have been visiting this place ( my family have lovingly christened “The Shack” because of its architecture) for over 10 years and it just gets better and better. Fabulous fresh fish, good beer, quick service and at a good price. Friendly staff led by the...lovely head waitress Sarah. As my title says the best fast food fish restaurant on the planetMore

Went there thinking about past experiences, wich had been good but: when I got there the staff was diferent, the nice manager Sara was not in sight, and while I entered the room with my daughter a guy looked at me and turned back to...go inside kitchen without a word. Than we went into midle of the restaurant, waiting for someone to tells us where to seat. (there were 2 6pax tables free, plus some 4pax tables free also inside, and some more on the outside terrace. a minute later one emplyoee pass by us head down. 2 minutes later another one and the same. 4 minutes later a third one, try to get his attention onway back from service and was also ignored... waited 1 or 2 minutes more still standing on midle of restaurant with my daughter.. we both are tall people... than I choose one of the 6pax tables on right and seat on edge... another table same size was free behind us, and no one else had entered the restaurant. 30 seconds later the first guy (that went into kitchen saying nothing) comes and asks how many are we, imediatly saying he has a 2 pax table outside... what a nerf.... after waiting more than 5 minutes for that he want me to get up and change table... The table was NOT reserved, there were no one else arriving, and there were more tables empty, lots of space to seat... First I said I would not change, he had his chance to point me a table, and I didn't want to eat in terrace... but than I thought.. am I going to be served by this people after this??? what could he do to my food??? hell no!! so I got up and left this place.. forever.More

It is tucked away behind the fishing harbour, on the corner of a what looks like a warehouse and is facing the road near the railway station.
