A good restaurant in Estremoz in a nice atmosphere, mixing a wine shop, a bar, a cellar, a restaurant.
The food is good, quite original for the region (a Brazilian lady chef and co-owner). Very large selection of good wines at all prices ; unfortunately our 2 first choices were missing and the staff didn't know ... so long awaiting and still (very) thirsty. The frustration in Gadaha Mercearia is that the boss is never smiling or welcoming, even at your fifth visit, he seems to ignore you. The second thing is that the (excellent) food comes in total disorder : your guests can get their appetizer at the same time than the entry, or the reverse. Overtime we went we had the same problem. Only desserts come all together, but takes a log time to come. So we like the place and we shall return, but hoping that the manager will learn how to smile and welcome regular clients, even if foreigners ... and that the cuisine and service will set a better synchronisation...

This was a surprise. Amazing food and service. We started with Tuna Tartare, rhe Pica-Pau and then the Gadanha Scrambled eggs and everything was delightful. We finished with an indescribable desert Maça and Poejos that was out of this world.

We booked for dinner and we stay outside but the excellent service of Jorge and the excellent food makes a great night out with friends. We started with lamb rolls, “chara” followed by lamb chops, codfish and “bochechas” and we finish with great deserts like apple iced sorbet, “farófias” and mango with strawberry. A must if you go to Estremoz

Lovely place with a real buzz to it and a great shop at the front.
The prawn starter was delicious and boded well. However make sure to avoid the tuna main course. I’ve eaten fresh tuna the world over but this was very poor. It came as a thick slab that was dry and unappetising. When served flash fried and almost raw you need tuna of a certain grade. This was not of a quality to be cooked in this way. The staff were very helpful and offered me an alternative but this will go down as the worst tuna I’ve ever had. Perhaps I was unlucky but it shouldn’t happen.

I have had lunch and dinner at this restaurant a few times and have always had very good experiences.
Unfortunately this time I wasn't as pleased with the experience.
Above all, because I think they got away with the fame they gained and the prices they charge. A dinner for two people cost €121….
The staff is still friendly, but the service this time was a little slow - 40 minutes between the starter and the main course…).
Dinner included a simple Couvert (Bread, butter and olive oil), in which we started by sharing some tender dogfish pastries (very good, €16.5), followed by prawn rice (quite tasty, €29.5) and some chops of Lamb (4 small chops, semi-dry and with little accompaniment, for €29.5, poor; I've eaten much better in a simpler place and for half the price), shared dessert (pleasant, fresh, but nothing out of this world...), 2 coffees, a small water and a bottle of red wine, Monte da Peceguina (good wine but usually affordable - here it cost €24, which is one of the cheapest).
On the Menu, most starters cost around €16; In the main dishes there is no one below €22 and for desserts the average is €15. The wine list is excellent, but I believe the cheapest bottle will cost €22/23… It seems too much to me, especially when Estremoz is full of excellent alternatives, excellent quality restaurants and much more affordable prices.
I'm sorry, it was a reference for me in this beautiful Alentejo land….

The attribution of just 3 “balls” to the Mercearia Gadanha Restaurant, I confess, was greatly influenced by one of the evaluation factors, which I will mention later, which one.
The food is tasty, without a doubt.
The quantity served is sufficient, but if it were a little more, nothing would be lost.
The restaurant is well located, and is beautiful, although nothing really special. The service is effective, but again, nothing extraordinary.
It should not be forgotten that we are in the heart of Alentejo, where there is an immense profusion of good restaurants. Some bigger, others smaller, but the common denominator is that, with rare exceptions, the food is always delicious.
So let's go back to the beginning, to the factor that greatly influenced the attribution of this classification; the price.
Honestly, I can't see the reason for such high prices, other than the search for unbridled profit. I didn't eat any starter, nor the cover charge. I just ordered a soup (€3.90), and the cheeks as a main dish (€24.50). To drink, I ordered a water, which cost €4 (!!). I didn't eat dessert, nor did I drink coffee.
For these three simple moments, soup+cheeks+water, I paid €32.40.
Imagine if you had eaten the cover charge, a starter, drank wine, a dessert, and a coffee…
We all have to earn a living, but it would be good to do it in an ethically correct way, wouldn't it?!…

Customer is pressured to speed up the meal. As incredible as it may seem, the customer is charged with speed and pace when eating because "he has to free up the table for whoever comes next". In other words, not even in a snack bar are you treated like this. Good food, but doesn't justify the price.
If you have babies, there is zero tolerance for delays if the baby needs attention.

This is one of the best restaurants in the Alentejo. It’s a deli, wine store, and excellent restaurant. Plays on Portuguese style dishes, beautifully presented in very large helpings. Deserts are excellent. Being in Estremoz, wine list is exceptional. You often see local wine producers eating here. A must to book ahead. Absolutely worth a detour.

This shop and restaurant is a little gem. The food is delicious unusual and served in big portions most suitable for sharing. The service was excellent and they have lovely staff. This is the best place we’ve eaten in 3 visits to Estremoz.

Very good food. Unfortunately we were seated outside in 40 degrees celcius so we couldn’t eat much. We would have liked to have had more than just one dish but at the time we were already melted away. Make sure to book a table inside in AC to enjoy this place in July. The food was delicious. The duck was superb with a great sauce. The lamb with pumpkins and pesto was just as great.
Estremoz have several great restaurants. We stayed here 4 nights. It is quite a hidden gem with almost no other tourists in july (2022). Still lots of gourmet restaurants filled with people every evening. So be sure to reserve a table every night.

Restaurant to which I have been 3 times and in which the menta, over the years, remains very similar.
The space suffers from an overuse, in an attempt to profit it the best possible, which leads us to dinner in the company of the "colleagues" at the table next door. If you want a romantic or intimate meal forget it. Besides, as the tables are small it is important not to make too abrupt gestures if not all goes to the ground...
Regarding the food is undoubtedly well prepared but the price is excessive to the conditions that the restaurant offers.
It's one of those fashion restaurants that keeps up with the saying: win fame and lie down in bed.
Good for young people who enjoy fashionable restaurants

We were visiting Estremoz and the new tile museum. We stopped for lunch here and it was delicious!! We enjoyed yummy lamb chops and others had seafood which we all raved about. Save room for the elegant desserts. Need a reservation as it's not a big place and was not an empty table in sight! Kind and efficient service with a smile. We loved it!

We shared two starters plus two main dishes and agreed this was the best meal we had over our long weekend in the area, between Évora and Estremoz. The Lamb Croquetes were absolutely wonderful. They had a very crispy shell with an absolutely amazing creamy inside full of the most delicious and tender lamb meat. The Duck Rice was rich and moisty with an amazing crispy touch. And the Hake fillets with Coriander Açorda was simply divine! For desert again we shared, this time the Red fruits 1000 folhas which is a combination of the best, thinnest and most crocant three layers of puff pastry stuffed with a delicious cream of white chocolate and red fruits jam which is served with a fantastic rasberry sorbet. We will definetely look forward to our next visit because there are many more things in the menu we want to taste!

We went on a very hot Sunday, and it was so refreshing cool inside, it felt like a different planet.
We went for 3 choices of the "petiscos": amazing crunchy prawns, very good "peixinhos da horta" (tempura like veggies) and "pica-pau de vitela". They were all very very good and tasty. We "killed" it with an amazing dessert »» the "mil folhas choco...so delicious I can't even speak about it.
Overall, we paid around 70€ for 2 (no wine) NOTE: they have this huge wine cellar, but we don't drink wine....very atypical Portuguese couple :)

Despite the heat, we only managed it on the terrace. The option fell on a cod mille feuille which was excellent and very well presented. The creamy mushroom rice is very good, one of the best I've ever tasted.....
As for the desserts, they were simply divine.... the choices were the white chocolate mille feuille and the apple with pennyroyal. How much delicacy, how much freshness in these desserts.
It is always a pleasure to visit the Grocery Store, whether for the dishes or for the service and attention given.....
I hope next time it won't be so hot.....
