My sister and I visited Books and Brunch on our final day of the holiday and we’re certainly not disappointed. We both had the delicious hot chocolate to start and then the food came ...
My sister is gluten free so lunch can often be a challenge but this was not a problem. We both had open sandwiches (With the best GF baguette my sister has ever had), served with their homemade curried carrot and coconut soup which blew our minds! I cannot recommend this place enough - don’t visit Bruges without coming here!

Books and Brunch is a definite place to grab breakfast in your morning in Brugges. We were seated right away and placed our food promptly after. I ordered crunchy cruesli with Greek yogurt while my friend ordered an omelet over toast. As the pictures may suggest, they do not skimp on portion sizes! Come with an empty stomach! We ended up waiting about 30 minutes for our food before it came out and it was well worth the wait. The food was very good and filling. If you normally do not eat much for breakfast, splitting one plate would be more than enough! When we were almost finished, there were already 3 parties waiting for a table (10:30am timeframe). I overheard the owner say that Monday and Fridays are always the busiest as tourist linger either before or after the weekend. If you are worried about time, I would suggest making a reservation by call or email! A must visit eatery in Brugges!

A little out of the way but nevertheless easy to reach, this restaurant/cafe has a very relaxed atmosphere. Lots of books to read in line with the overall theme of the place and some gentle tunes in the background make you feel instantly at home. The menu offers a good range of healthy and simple dishes and drinks; i had a delicious combo of avocado on wholewheat bread with bacon, egg and tomatoes. The service was friendly, the portions for the food and drinks were generous while the prices were very reasonable.
I would definitely go back here again.

Stopped here for brunch, before visiting the city. Cozy and very nice place, extremely kind service and an original menu (really difficult the choice of a single dish!). As written in the menu, your order can take a bit to be prepared, but it totally worths. In the meantime, you can enjoy a chat with your attendant(s) or read a book. You can choose between sweet breakfast treats or many savoury choices (full brunches, bagels, salads...) that work for lunches as well.
We got an assiette with a selection of delicious Belgian cheeses (not easy to find elsewhere), originally served with grape (fresh and sultanas) and nuts, a classic but perfect fried egg, a big basket full of rich -and delicious- bread, butter and apricot compote. Everything was well composed, accurate and the ingredients have a high quality - you can taste it. Thank you for this perfect experience, the love in your dishes and your service can be felt and enjoyed. Absolutely recommended! 💛

My girlfriend and I stopped by one morning during our stay in town...it was great! Although they no longer offer the vegan pancakes, the vegan oatmeal with fruit was fresh and tasted better than most oatmeal! I had a breakfast omelette and the special slow-coffee...it hit the spot! Best coffee I’ve had so far. Well worth a visit!

If you love books then you need to come here. I would love to have had more time to sit, read and try more of the enticing menu
I went for the; Belgium waffles with maple syrup, bacon, bananas and whipped cream, with a blueberry smoothie - the perfect combo! The waffles had a bit of crunch to them which was softened by the cream. I would definitely recommend!

We went here for lunch and were thoroughly impressed with everything we had here. Lovely place with lots of books to pick up and read whilst you were there, very friendly staff and excellent service! I ordered one of the bagel options and it was baked to perfection - but the show stopper was the Bresiliennetaart desert which was a special. It was so scrumptious and went down very easily, I wanted to take more home!
Thank you for a lovely experience Books & Brunch - I hope I can come back one day!

We visited this store while on an overnight visit to Bruges. The welcome was warm and friendly, helped by the staffs ability to speak English. The menu was fun and unusual but helped set the scene. The food was outstanding, some of the best breakfast/brunches we have ever had. These included the waffles, both with fruit and maple syrup, and the bagels, with salmon. Drinks were also very nice and all at a reasonable price. Highly recommend hunting this place out. It’s only about 5-10 minute walk from the main central square but well worth the effort.

We had the bread, eggs and salmon and the crepes with red fruit and cheese. Delicious. Very nice and friendly staff who take their time to prepare their food. It is also very nice as it is a calm place. ideal for breakfast or lunch - you cannot go wrong. We often visit Bruges and got a recommendation from our eldest daughter Amelie ( who just got a baby, Alix !!). We walked away after a final coffee and 2 second hand books. (All books displayed are for sale).

We ate here twice during our weeks stay and really recommend it. An excellent choice of food, healthy choices as well and a bit different. It wasn’t busy in March but think you are better to book. However due to this awful virus it has to close until early April like all the others . Best to check but please do support this business when they can reopen! It is worth it!

Books and good food? Count us in!
Books & Brunch tells you what it is up front. The restaurant is about a 10 minute walk from the central attractions in Bruges such as the City Hall and Basilica of the Holy Blood. It has a smaller storefront entrance but is much larger inside.
Where a mask if you are coming during the pandemic (you can take it off once you are seated and settled in for a meal).
The tables are mixed in within the stacks of books. This gives some privacy and distance during the pandemic, but it's fun in any case. We looked at the titles around us. There were several books in English, but most appeared to be in English. I'm sure that much of their sales volume comes from diners seeing books of interest and then buying them afterward.
The menu is essentially a checklist in both Flemish and English - you check off what you want. We were there for lunch and it was a mixture of brunch and lunch items. Two of us had the Belgian waffles (it being Belgium after all). For what it's worth, the Belgium waffles here are much lighter than the ones in the United States, although there is more cream that comes with them.
Our service was friendly and spoke English well.
You'll want reservations, by the way. We were here on a Wednesday, and while I questioned at first why we had done we saw other potential patrons turned away. It was easy to do by email.
This was a fun stop for lunch with food we very much enjoyed. It's a nice addition to a trip to beautiful Bruges.

Books and Brunch is a lovely cozy spot for breakfast or lunch! The atmosphere is wonderful and the food is delicious! We had the lunch toasts and were very impressed. Moreover, the owner goes above and beyond and offered wonderful recommendations for the rest of our trip in Bruges that made it truly special. I only wish we were able to go more than once! Definitely do not miss out if you are in town!

We called in here for Breakfast / Brunch. We looked for places that did Gluten-free and this little Gem popped up. The menu was extensive and allowed those who do have the coeliac allergen a great choice. The staff spoke perfect English, the menus were in English, the food was plentiful and cooked to order. The staff and service couldn't be faulted in any way, hence why I'm writing this review. Anyone visiting Brugge, not just those with a Gluten-free need, anyone wanting a great little place for food and drink, take a walk down the side streets and find this great place for all, you won't be disappointed.

We were only in Bruges for a day - as a day trip from Middelburg. This was a perfect escape from the chaos of the touristy city center. Just a 10 minute walk from the main square, it felt like we had escaped the tourist traps and endless crowds. Was so peaceful with The books, and nice music and had more of a local neighborhood feel. Staff was super friendly and allowed us to eat lunch with our dog . The food was a little on the expensive side but well worth it for the quality of the ingredients. Sandwiches and salads were beautifully presented and equally delicious. Homemade lemonade amazingly refreshing as well. Great place for lunch - lots of vegetarian options !
